Hi,
I recently started the game with my first two handed warrior and am having a few questions. What exactly is the right way to build him? I plan to go full out strengths with a few possible points in willpower. I have not decided if I want him to tank, but if I did would he be a good option? Also what are the best sepcilizations and equiptment? As for specilzations, I have no idea, but for equiptment I was thinking along the lines of Starfang (greatsword) or Chasind great maul, either jagguernaught or Orators (mod good cause it has a big willpower boost) for armor, spellward necklace, andruls blessing belt, lifegiver and ring of ages for rings. Thanks! Also I have a random question I just didn't want to create a whole new topic for it: How do you set up a good group heal? I have the spell, but I wish there was a tatic option such as all allies > 60 health or something. Any ideas?

From my experience, 2h warriors do not tank well. SS is better for that. It really depends on how you want to play your warrior. Berserker is pretty safe though, just don't get final blow. Then I usually go champion for war cry. Just for war cry. =P

Helm of Honnoleath
Wades superior heavy dragon scale glove and boots
Evon the great's mail
Key to the city
Lifegiver.

Less fatigue, means you can spam more abilities which is better dps. I usually go Nug Crusher until I can get Chasind great maul. Redcliffe >Urn > Tower then the last two don't matter. Depends on what equipment you want.

My group heal is set at allies > 75. and I just put > 75 Use health poultice, most powerful on mage. Self health > 75 heal on the mage too. Can't be too careful. Depends on your difficulty though.

That's my experience though. People will have other opinions.

Indomitable is really good.

Sounds like you've got a good setup. Strength build is right, with a dash in willpower. Make sure you're in the heaviest armour you can get. Tanking is certainly a possibility though you'll never match a S&S warrior in the long run. Much better to go straight DPS and off-tank only when needed. That's where you'll excel.

Indomitable is great - have it on all the time. Also try for Two-Handed Sweep and Death Blow as soon as you can.

Due the very long time it takes you to land a single blow, you'll want to rely on active talents rather than autoattacks. You'll also want Precise Striking to minimise any misses. Also, since you're dealing few, very heavy blows rather than lots of light ones, remember you're more of a boss-killer than a mob-clearer. Always target the biggest, nastiest thing in the room.

Beserker is indeed your ideal spec. There isn't really a standout one for the secondary one though. Templar is probably the weakest, but I think Reaver has the edge over Champion. Champion's a tank's spec really.

Finally I hope you realise you and actionhero were putting your < the wrong way round...? If you set up ALLIES > 75, your mage will heal when your allies have MORE than 75 health...

Personally I use group heal as a secondary heal. Something along the lines of:

Ally health < 75 = Heal
Ally health < 50 = Group Heal

And have your allies use health poultices at 25 health...

...will do the trick.

My usual strategy is to build strength up to 42+ by twos and constitution by ones alongside of that. Weapons can add signifigantly to stamina -- Nugcrusher (if you have the dlc) adds 100. Some armor also will add to stamina and reduce the costs of activating talents.

Favorite talents are precise striking, two-handed sweep (when surrounded), sunder armor (for high rank and high armor). Sword pummel is great for stunning pesky mages. Indomitable will help to prevent being knocked down, but I usually add a hale rune into the sword to beef up physical resistance. Warriors that are knocked down are no use to anyone.

Dexterity helps a 2H warrior to dodge, so I usually have 30+ in that category by lvl 20 or so. I like about 8-10 tactics slots, so just enough cunning to make that possible. But if you intend to control the warrior in gameplay a whole bunch of tactics slots may not be necessary.

Specializations usually include champion, templar, and spirit warrior.

But these are just my personal preferences. The 2H warrior certainly can be built other ways.

Thanks for all the great suggestions! The only thing I'm kinda torn about is specs. Templar would be useful for spell resist, beserkers good for damage, champion has good skills and bonuses and reaver's first two skills are really good. It's a tough decision. Also thanks for the group heal tactics and I did put the > on the wrong side!

The key to 2H warrior isn't in the warrior. It's in the party. Run 2x mages, both with haste. Now your warrior is ready to really lay into a herd and has the speed to maneuver about the field. Haste will stack for bows and staffs, too -- v.nice for your support crew that you don't want to micromanage.

You can ignore points in Will with this setup and just go all out Strength. You'll take more damage than a dex-based tank due to reduced defense, but with 2x mages backing you up, it won't matter; you'll achieve your goal of front-line 2H slaughter.

specs: champ (warcry for KB & rally for atk+def), berserk (not as nice for 2H as it is for 2x1H or 1H/S), temp (only for smite, rest kinda worthless). For awakening, be sure to get spirit warrior. Reaver isn't so hot -- you're unlikely to need extra threat and a single-target CC isn't as nice as the AE CCs offered by champ & temp.

Bumping . . .

Anyone ever figure out what the best armor for a 2 Hander is? I was rocking the Warden's Commander Armor for practically the whole game. Then I did a little experiment and took Wade's Heavy armor (NOT the massive!) and, while I took a hit to my stamina pool, I took a boost to my stamina regeneration. I also bought the Chasind Great Maul and I'm definitely noticing a difference over Starfang. The +75 stam doesn't hurt either.

Wade's Heavy is the way to go. Make sure to use Evon the Great's Mail in place of Wade's chest piece though. It is way better and you still get the set bonus to boot! The Maul is better than the sword, especially when you get your STR score to a very high number.

Yeah, I will be buying that shortly.

I have to say I've got like 600+ hours logged in this game; it's my favorite BioWare game. But I never bothered to roll a 2 hander because Sten sucks so bad. I didn't realize that to get the best out of a 2 hander you need to babysit him and spam talents. Since figuring that out, I'd say this is one of my favorite builds. There's nothing more satisfying than using a Critical Strike and seeing a number in the 150s on a Revenant. I remember when they were hard . . .
