 OK so I was thinkin about this very long time, even since the first game, so here it goes.

I was thinkin wouldn't be cool if you played the default Shepard through, ME1&2, and you kept his/her default first Name,
and in ME3, for example your LI would say it.

Just wondering.

How would they do this? They would have to have the voice actors say EVERY SINGLE name ever, and that does not account for the gibberish some players would type.

Actually they simply could add 1000 "standard" names for both characters and those names will get inserted into normal lines. Should be possible.

But I don't think this is going to happen.

It would be a nice touch, but will never happen. The best you will get will be "Shepard" or some generic endearment such as "sweetheart". (Like from Anders in DA2.)

Unless they record every voice actor's voice in all possible phonetics, it will not be possible and I don't think they will record that much data. It will also probably lead to an increase in the VA fee.

If EA Sports has been doing it since Madden 2006 I see no reason why it can't be in Mass Effect 3.

Maybe then the game will just crash trying to spell the long series of words!

Having Shep or any of the characters say a name you pick would not be that hard. But BW would have to have all the appropriate voice actors say about 45 to 72 phonetic verbal couplings, and then have the player input those coulpings for their name. So its possible, but you would see it coming.

It would have been kind of cool had they offered a series of names to choose from that would have come up in voiced dialogue. Kind of would have ruined my Polynesian renegade Shep, though.
