The queen is probably the last of her kind. That's all the reason I need to let her go. I am with shepard on this, I won't be the one to end an entire species. She may attack humans then it is different. But she at least deserves a chance.

You're not ending an entire species.

I only saw one queen in the whole game.

Killing the last panda doesn't constitute genocide either.

Because Rachni are no Pandas. One, two or even probably 100 pandas are not enough to sustain the race. They would already be doomed. Though the Rachni queen can restore her species.

No, one queen merely gives you one sapient creature and a crapload of slaves. Average rachni aren't equal to humans or salarians.

I disagree, the Rachni "drones" have their own intelligence, they are educated by their mothers.  Without that guidance they resort to instinct, but you are correct in thinking that they are a hive structured society, just not a hive mind.

Killing the Queen isn't evil. Its just the safe option. You should only ask yourself: Is it worth potentially risking the 2nd Rachni Wars for the Rachni's support against the Reapers? I let her live, so yes IMO.

@Welsh Inferno - but if the Reapers destroy the galazy, blah de blah Renegade blah.

The excuse is used endlessly that every available weapon must be used... except, when every available weapon doesn't give you Renegade points or whatever.

I don't care honestly. There are things I don't do, period. If that makes me a bad Shepard then I guess I have to live with it.

You're not killing an "enitre sentient species". You're killing one queen. And it's very likely that if the Citadel Council wanted to bio-engineer the rachni out of extinction it's been within their power for well over 2000 years.

If there where plenty of queens around, it would be that way, but the game makes quite an effort in make clear that is probably the last one. I don't care what Citadel Council wants: Deliberately wipe out a sentient species is evil.

It's one sentient and Jubileus knows how many slaves. It's the same as keeping the Harbinger-controlled Collector General to keep the drones alive.

The game clearly states the Collectors are not sentient beings anymore (Mordin does it).

Re-read your HS biology - assuming the rachi are roughly insect-like - it only takes a single queen to start hive - and the members diversify to serve its various needs  - the queen tells you - you have no other source of information - that the hive is essential to successful socialization and integration of its member - individually sentient beings - I include present company for the moment - can have no real understanding of a hive intelligence - and certainly terrestrial species exhibit such a thing - whether there might be hive consciousness as many Scifi writers have postulated, we can safely assume the Rachni will fall into that category - they are closer to the geth than any of the council species -

So yes, you are wrong on both counts.  Killing the last (so far as we know) generative member of the species is genocide, and no you do not have one individual consciousness and "a crapload of slaves."

Rachni are not supposed to be slaves or anything controlled by the queen. The ones in the game are just "kids gone mad" due to isolation, the Queen explains it. Collective mind is not the same to "one king, plenty of slaves", but a real shared mind (like Legion shows).

That's how I would explain it as well, in her position.

"Gone mad" could just as well mean "not raised to be indoctrinated into acknowledging my authority".

And "individual" rachni aren't equal to geth.

Yes - and the Rachni queen says she only "controls" young Rachni because they can't distinguish the song for themselves.

2:14 - 2:27

There is plenty of indication that "adult" Rachni are more like her - which is more like us.

Not unlike our modern American education system (which "is" a system of control - but you are released from it eventually, even if you never fully recover from what it does to you)

Doesn't that Russian guy in the hot labs say the same thing as the Queen? Yaroslev or whatever his name was?

There is a critical flaw in this system. You choose disagree and disagree strongly, also agree and agree strongly. So I guess that's where people tend to check 'strongly' which automatically puts them in the corner. I really find this unnecessary it would make more sense if you only check agree or disagree. Would be more accurate imo.

I said it earlier in the thread. About -8 on both axes, far in the bottom left.

Well, I think the test is made on purpose to make people choose left wing options. Looks quite biased in the expressions used.

Sometimes looks like "Is it acceptable for big corporations to kill billions of kittens for profit?" (Agree: Right, Disagree: Left)
