@Mango: We may be naturally greedy, but we're also naturally social. We have to be--of we were solely selfish, our societies would fall apart. American society, however, doesn't encourage being mindful of others very much. But like religious faith, patriotism, and the competitive drive to do well and get more stuff, it's a learned behavior that must be integrated into a culture--it doesn't spread overnight.
We'd be getting a lot more sh*t done if our culture didn't view being nice as a weakness.

The questions were worded such that they pointed to corporations are the evilz. Like the one that said what good for a coroporation is always good for the people. If you took out always then maybe its a fairer question. A corporation that makes profits can invest in equipment and hire more workers or raise wages and benefits but none of that was presented. It is no surpise if you answered the questions literally you end up more left.EternalAmbiguity wrote...

Interesting how there doesn't seem to be a lot of middle-ground, economically. With one or two exceptions we're all either pretty solid free marketers or leftists.
Except me, I'm smack dab in the middle. Which doesn't really fit me, as I'm a strong...fan, I guess, of capitalism.

Nah, you're reading it wrong--you don't have to be on the damn line for there to be a "middle ground." The spread itself smears along the whole axis, and although it's more left-heavy, you can see that there's no huge gap between leftists and rightists; the data doesn't "clump" anywhere.TheBlackBaron wrote...

Same with libertarians and authoritarians: way more libertarians, but there's no huge gap between where the libs stop and the authoritarians begin.

Then do what I do and hit "agree" instead of "strongly agree" when you come across something you mostly are okay with, but not completely.InvincibleHero wrote...

My favorite part was when it got to the god questions. Does being religious really correlate that strongly with being pro-establishment? Being my snarky atheist self, you can imagine my responses, but still, I'd like to see the data for that.

It seems that the renegade posters tend to be a bit more authoritarian (I suppose that explains their devotion to TIM), but not by all that much on average.HowlHowl wrote...
What exactly are the patterns anyway? Is there much correlation between Renegade-Left or Right/Authoritarian or Libertarian and Paragon- Left or Right/Authoritarian or Libertarian?

Really? Not quite sure what to think of that. I freaking hate politics, at least the way the U.S. chooses to indulge in it. Honestly I've been wanting to move to Canada for a while now.EternalAmbiguity wrote...

It did seem like I was getting more anti-establishment as I voiced disdain for puritan paradigms and religious fervor. The X and Y I posted was actually what I got after manipulating my answers to figure out how they scored all of this. It's fairly difficult to actually be highly left AND be highly pro-establishment on this test. Very flawed.

Maybe to you, but I have Christian friends who think I'm one temptation away from killing babies.EternalAmbiguity wrote...
I didn't see anything about "pro-establishment" in the religion section. I did see the "must be religious to be moral?" which, as a staunch Christian, I have to say is absurdly silly.
They're the "weird" kind of Christian. The kind that thinks the talking snake story was legit.
Religion was outlawed in the USSR, anyway, and that sh*t was pretty damn authoritarian.

The implications were heavy. But more than the religious aspect, the world view section seemed to paint any progressive as libertarian. Somehow I'm more against the establishment for thinking women shouldn't be stuck in the kitchen. But I'm fairly pro-establishment, when it's competent.
