 Idk about the rest of you but I was really hoping for a batarian squad member this time around and was disappointed by the leaks that it would not be happening. I had always imagined the Batarian would be something like this: 

Name: Artoph Korzak   Race: Batarian   class: Batarian Bounty Hunter (Sentinel) Weapons: Assult Rilfe, Shotgun

Biography:
The deadliest Bounty hunter in Batarian space and second only to Urdnot Wrex in his prime in the galaxy. He while he is more of the "shoot first and ask questions later" variety. He knows how to keep a cool head. He served as an honor guard to the leader of a Batarian Resistance against the Hegemony to end the caste system and slavery that ultimately failed. The war went unnoticed by the rest of the galaxy due to the batarains isolation from Citadel space. He has since become a bounty hunter to try to forget the horrors of the war and the loss of dear friends. Unlike other Batarians he doesn't share an outright hatred of humanity, believing the batarians have been blaming humanity for all their problems while most have been self afflicted. He prefers to let one's actions define who they are, not their race. He was in the Terminus systems serving as muscle for Aria when the station was attacked and the Reaper War began. He has since left her employ to join shepard to stop the reapers, believing it's the first step in the Batarian's redemption in the eyes of the galaxy.

I was also expecting more ME2 squadmates to return such as: Mordin, Legion, Grunt, Jack,  and Miranda. but it seems they will be in supporting roles or long term temporary a la Shadow Brocker DLC. 

So basically as the topic i'd like to ask: Who were you expecting to return as squad members that won't and what new one's were you hoping for/ expecting?

I assume it's spoilers-containing thread? Why not post it in spoiler'd group?

From who I was expecting:

- female turian Engineer, Mordin-like build. Unlike Garrus this lady was supposed to be extremely "by the book" character. Maybe she'd be "flexibility".

- female salarian Sentinel, Miranda-like but with boost to own cooldown instead of squad passive. She was supposed to be salarian version of Aethyta - vigilante dalatress who isn't going to sit and wait.

- female human Infiltrator, blonde with Widow.

Who, as I thought, will be returning:

basically, all LI.

Why am I not surprised... at all. And I didn't even need to see what it was.

On topic, I really expected... well, most of the ME2 squad to be relegated to much more minor roles while the "original crew" from ME1 got back into (or stayed) in the limelight. For the most part, they're the ones closest to us since they were there in the beginning. Not to say I'm not at least a little upset. I pretty much expected Mordin, my bar-none favorite from ME2 to be dead/dying due to old age. Really would have liked to have him back regardless for all his priceless commentary and medical advice. It'll be sad to see him go by the wayside.

Legion was a close second due to "his" attachment to Shepard. Really wanted him back on the ship for the whole ride. Of him I can say only this: Out of all the synthetics I have encountered in my travels... he was the most.... human.

I agree on Jack. But I read that Garrus has some role outside of the Normandy in ME3, at least before meeting Shepard. But I admit I don't remember well what he does. If you know more, could you send me a PM?

About the OP, if we're talking about new squadmates, I'd have loved to have a female Turian, even better if biotic. If we're talking about old squadmates too, I'd have wanted a mixed squad in ME3, between ME's squadmates and ME2's squadmates.

There are a good aumont of  info about Miranda in the leaked script. Or do you mean official info?

Even in the leaked script (the one I read anyway,) there wasn't much about her compared to the permanent squaddies. And I fully expected her to be a permanent squaddie.

Ah, now I understand. Yes, in comparison to permanent squadmates there isn't that much. Though I have to say that I'm not disappointed from the leaked scrip about Miranda, since I consider the fact that they could've added a bit more in the final game, and that I was already resigned to not having her as a squadmate (though I really hoped that I was wrong).
