Why is the bonusdisc on blu-ray BioWare, since the soundtrack won't work?

I too am completely disappointed at this. I bought the CE edition for the PS3 exactly for the soundtrack. I was completely frustrated that I couldn't even listen to the soundtrack on the PS3 itself. I don't own a PC with a Blu-ray drive, and I'm betting that most gamers who bought the PS3 version does not either. The selling point of the PS3 is that it already has a Blu-ray drive to play our games and watch our movies. There was never a need to buy a Blu-ray drive for the PC because of that, and nor should it be a requirement to listen to the game soundtrack -- for which that requirement or disclaimer is not even listed on the box.

On the DA:O support site, this is the only info I can find:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
QUESTION
I purchased the Collector's Edition of Dragon Age: Origins for PLAYSTATION 3 and can't get it to play in any of my devices. What's going on?
ANSWER
The soundtrack included with the Collector's Edition of DA:O on the PLAYSTATION 3 is on a Blu-Ray disk. Currently, the soundtrack is encoded in such a way that it is only accessible via a PC with a Blu-Ray drive. Unfortunately, the soundtrack disc won't play on DVD drives, car stereo CD changers, or regular Blu-Ray players.
Rest assured that BioWare is aware of this issue and they are working on a solution. For updates as to when this issue is resolved, click the Notify me... button below.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I wonder what legal options we have if this doesn't get resolved in a timely manner. While I've been enjoying the game thus far, I am still disappointed and frustrated that I'm not able to enjoy the extra content that was purchased for with the PS3 Collectors Edition, while all other platforms do not have this issue.

Why on earth have you pressed the bonusdisc onto a blu-ray for the ps3? I bet you didn't do that for the 360 version?
Is this some kind of joke?
I can't listen to the soundtrack provided since I don't own a blu-ray player in my computer.

This release is getting more and more stupid BioWare. two week delay, then our codes got messed up, rather big framerate issues and slowdowns and now this?
Do you really hate us ps3 users or what?

It clearly says on the back of the package that the bonus disc is a DVD! Read it yourself! Now I paid full price for this package and I paid for a DVD with this content so how do I lay my hands on one?
or shall I have to ask someone with the 360 collectors edition to make a torrent file so I can download the songs cause I paid for them.

Somekind of refund would be in place since the package is lying and I can't even listen to a soundtrack I paid for, its clearly misleading information.

Since some people decided to mock my post here I should clarify that the soundtrack I paid for that is in the collectors edition CAN'T be used on the ps3, if you click on it it states "insert this disc into your pc to listen" or someting like that.. well since I don't own a BD player for my pc I can't. The soundtrack was actually what I looked forward to the most in this collectors edition since I enjoy gamesoundtracks and tries to buy them whenever I can so here I sit with a soundtrack totally useless because of false advertisment.

I got the same problem as you. I bought the collectors edition, and all the DLC codes I got worked fine (just had to give it a day, then I got Final Reason, Blood Dragon Armor, Bergen's Honor, Grimoire of The Frozen Wastes, Shale and an amulet and ring from Gamestop). But since my laptop is getting quite old, compared to how fast technology moves, I can't use my bluray disk to get my soundtrack :crying:

Contact EA support as they have instructions to provide you with a solution.

The blu-ray requirement is a Sony one. The box should clearly have indicated it as such - if it does not this was an error in the box art that wasn't caught.

And a friendly note that you are welcome to discuss your views and grievances as always, but talk of pirating anything will not be allowed on the forums.

What "pirating" are you reffering to? He paid for the soundtrack therefore he is entitled (and has a legal right) to possess a copy of the soundtrack. In other words downloading it from the internet or getting it from a different source is perfectly legal.

Bioware/EA on the other hand is breaking the law, because the infomation regarding the soundtrack placed on the box is false and people purchasing the collector's edition are not being informed that you need a PC blu-ray player to actually enjoy the content you paid for.
Bioware should allow PS3 Collector editon buyer to download the soundtrack from the PSN via codes or think of a similar solution.

honestly BioWare why not just release a DLC code for us that bought the collectors edition and let us download thru PS STORE of course highend quality mp3s then problem solved.
I can copy them to a USB device if I wanna have them on my computer or plug in an mp3 player if I wanna take them with me on the road.

The game has a beutiful score and its a shame that this issue hasn't been resolved, I guess many hrs have been put into making the music as beutiful as it many times is so it should be treated with more respect than it is now I think.
I wanna be able to listen to it!

I've been looking for a response on this as well, if they don't take care of it officially, I will be doing the forementioned black flag sailing (Is that better then saying the "P" word Bioware?) but honestly, as FallingStickman mentioned, if we already paid for it, then its not really pirating.

But anyway, I do hope they fix this officially before I run off and do that.

Officialy you could send a letter of intent to sue through to their head office. To be honest I doubt it's biowares problem and more EAs problem. We do realise EA is probably one of the worst companies about? they are in the circle of hell Dell lurks in.

I have the same problem, I love listening to good game music, which is the reason I bought the Collector's Edition... please BioWare, Electronic Arts, who ever can find a solution, make us, ps3 owner, be able to listen to the soundtrack we paid for. The music in Dragon Age is awsome, please !!!

Seriously, are we ever going to get hear back from EA/Bioware about this?! I just e-mailed Kotaku to see if they might mention it on their site.

Just a quick question, I assume you are able to play the music on the blu-ray through the XMB right? If so are you able to rip the songs of the blu-ray through the XMB and thus get a more generally usable version of the music that way?

No. It's been said before the soundtrack does not at all in any way play on the PS3.

ok, that is a bit of a facepalm then, as I am sure Sony did not instruct EA/Bioware to both put the content on a blu-ray and make it not accessible from the PS3 :)

I know right? I have gotten my hands on the soundtrack and it is pretty sexual. I'm not sure where you guys are but in England I know without a doubt you could have someone make you a copy from their drive and it's not breaching copyright as long as you have the original format in your possesion nothing can come of it. A few minutes on google could find you the relevent documents if anyone from EA or bioware wants to kick up a fuss about it. A link to the files won't be allowed on the forums but hey this is the net. If you want it bad enough it's out there.

I'm trying to keep on the stright and narrow and never download files. Frustrating at times as others around me tend to play/listen to all the new stuff .. but i'm a bit old fashioned and tend to pay for things !!! Sadly the big corporate giants care little ... 96 hrs and counting EA.

Well if you have the original disc you can download in safety. That's what I was trying to say and seriously if you think this is bad then you should go play Ultima Online. The customer service for that is absolutely ridiculous both on the boards the GMs frequent and the majority of people don't even bother complaining to EA customer service desk because all they get is links to non relevant topics. It took me two months to get an explanation to why they had pay pal options on their site for everything but two services I wanted to buy. That's not including calling EA on five occasions with no result but getting hung up on after them asking me questions for 20 mins. Seriously, their customer service department is ran by people who would fall under the definition of suffering from retardation.

I wonder if they'll respond more quickly now that over 8,500 people have read the post on Kotaku :) Sorry Bioware, I love you and everything - but this isn't cool. Fix it and fix it fast.

I have now written about this matter to IGN and Giantbomb, hopefully both of them will look into this matter and write something about this. I suggest you people do the same, write about this to different gamezites.. we can't let companies like EA work this way towards their customers..

tht EA is still not trying to get us the soundtrack is beyond me but instead wanna feed is $20 store credit to spend in their shop? Gosh.. send me $20 refund instead and I can buy some food for it! or better yet, give me what I have paid for!

if EA still is not going to provide a solution the legal way, can't we go togheter and like sue them? I mean at least in my country if you pay for something you can't use and the company still isn't providing a solution or refund worth the stuff you can't use.. that is a crime.

I know we can get our hands on the soundtrack anyhow, but this a matter of morality aswell.. if we sit down and just takes this, its gonna happen again.. we as customers need to let our voices NOT go unheard I say.

I can't believe this issue still hasn't been addressed, it's a disgraceful level of customer service on EA's part.
