Hello.

When creating a NPC to be a companion, what am I suppose to put in the challenge rating? Does this affect combat when the NPC is fighting by my side or only matters when it's fighting against me?
I've browsed the web but haven´t find a answer, so any help wold be aprecciated.

Thanks

CR is used to determine the amount of experience you earn when killing a critter/NPC. The party's CR is determined by the PC and companions character level.

So that means I don't have to change the CR when creating a NPC to be a companion, in the game it's automatically determined?

This npc isn't going to be killed, so it won't matter for practical purposes. I would just give them a CR equal to their level. I believe the CR of companions automatically adjusts itself as they level, both they an the player level and the relative threat when you examine them tends to stay the same. But yes, CR is used for calculating xp for killing them, and giving a relative threat rating when you examine them, eg "moderate" or "overpowering".

There's a bug where if you set the CR to zero, you can't change it. So don't do that.
