Hi there,

Does anyone know if it's OK to move my Mass Effect (1 and 2) saves from my HDD to the new Xbox Live Cloud Storage? I understand that you can't copy your Mass Effect game saves but can move them, but I am worried that my HDD will have an issue and I'll lose my saves.

Is it OK to move to the cloud storage device and will it still work?

Haven't got the update myself, but I would assume it would (otherwise the service would be rather pointless). Presumably you'll have to be permanently signed into XBox Live in order to use the service. (Personally I think it's better as an archive solution rather than a constant use thing.)

Seeing that you can copy ME saves (I'm sure it's possible) but not ME2 saves, you may want to try it with a save file you can copy. DAO for example.

I was able to copy my ME1 save and ME2 "import" save, but not my actual ME2 save file into the Cloud.

Confused: what do you mean by 'ME2 "import" save', clumsy?
Do you mean the ME1 game you intend to import into ME2? Or literally the save file from ME2 game where you imported ME1?

On an aside: From the DAO boards, it turns out that cloud storage is seen as being separate from the HDD.

Sorry about the necro but I figured there was a thread for it so why start a new one.

So who's moved their saves into the cloud storage? I haven't yet but I want to (both for ME1 & 2). Not sure what happens to the hidden saves though? Will there be some problems with future imports?

Have we gotten any official word on this somewhere?

I would assume that with ME the hidden import file remains hidden and not transferred should you want to move your saves to the Cloud storage thingamejig.

As for 'problems' it would depend where you anticipate them. If from ME to ME2 after transferring from HDD to Cloud then the usual problem of having no hidden import file remains I believe. I see no difficulties with ME2 to ME3, but bear in mind that this would be conjecture as ME3 isn't out yet.

The hidden save from ME1 is basically just the part that exports to ME2 right? So.. wonder what happens if you move your ME1 save to the cloud and then finish the game. Would it then create a hidden save in the cloud? Guess I could do some trial and error and see.. but that's my main concern with playing ME on the Xbox compared to the PC, on the PC I'm free to back them up any way I want to and that's rather important in a series where you use the same character in three different games.

That is what I think would happen. Move your ME save to Cloud, finish the game again and the hidden file is generated.

As for the different games bit...well...you could do a New Game + for the original imported game for that result as well rather than importing from ME three times. Import the once and then just complete ME2 three times, two of those being New Game +s.

I guess I should just give it a shot and see how it goes.

I probably won't import any of my old ME1 saves any more times anyway, I'll probably just do a clear restart from scratch if I want to do another go.
