I wanted to try something silly and have Sten and Oghren bust me out of Fort Drakon.  I had Oghren do the talking, which got them past the first guards but not the captain.  After killing everyone, they are now permanently trapped in the Fort Drakon starting chamber.  The exit door is not even a door right now, and the other two doors are locked and cannot be opened.

What do I do (other than load a backup save of course)?

Is this the room with the balista? If it is, then maybe it might help you. Otherwise, if have no clue, sorry.

It's the very first room. I expected to get a key off of a dead guard, but there was no key present. I have an autoloot mod so I couldn't have missed it.

Try using the aforementioned ballista on the door.

The ballistas are in the room I can't reach. I'm literally talking about the first room.

I ran into a similar situation in the Soldier's Peak DLC (killed the baddies, triggered the cutscene, but the exit door didn't turn into an exit.) I had to reload from a previous save. That might be your only option.

Have you actually killed the captain? He's the one with the key. If you did kill him, did he not have the key on him, or is he not showing up as lootable?

He said they killed everyone, so I think yes.

I tried both ways. I could either have Sten talk and fail on the first conversation, which resulted in an attack by 5 guards (no key.) I could also have Oghren talk and get me into the waiting room, then fail on the Captain. Killing the captain and the 2 main area guards also yielded no key.

I thought maybe he hadn't had a chance to talk to the captain yet, and that he was still in his "office" or something. Apparently not, though.

Gotcha. I must admit, I usually go all gung ho and rescue myself. I've played Captured!, but mainly to get the dialogue *shuffles feet* What? It's funny stuff!

@ OP: Anyway, maybe you could try disabling Auto Loot? I know that occasionally that has messed up some quests for me (like the Slim Coudry quest for the silver bars in the warehouse). Just to try it...

Is the dead Captain not showing up as lootable at all, or is he giving up loot but no key? If he's not showing up as lootable, have you tried doing the "search area for all interactable objects" thing? (It's L2 on the PS3; I don't know what the control is for the PC.) Sometimes if I can't get a thing to tell me it's active, I do that and all of a sudden it goes "Oh! Here I am! :wizard:" This happens most often with Lyrium Veins but can happen with other things sometimes.

The "search area for all interactable objects" key for the PC is the Tab key.  I love that key.

On my first two playthroughs I was all "What? Rescue? This Warden don't need no stinkin' rescue!" until I started to hear about all the hilarious things that happen when you play Captured! Then I confess that I metagamed. I don't think that any of my Wardens would *really* have sat in prison and waited for someone to come get them, unless it was for the fun/torture of making, say, Morrigan dress up as a Chantry priestess or something. I do regret that Shale is not an option in this game. She would have had some awesome lines (not to mention how in Ferelden they'd ever try to explain her).

"She needs to see the healing priest.  What?  She's got a skin condition!  Didn't your mother tell you it's rude to stare?"

I did not try to disable auto loot. I use tab constantly so that wasn't an issue. I can't recall if I got loot at all from the Cap but I believe I did. I wound up doing it with Sten and Wynne, which given that I am using Combat Tweaks and the difficulty 2 setting, was a very good idea. Oghren and Sten would have involved a lot more frustration and reloads without any healing and without either being built to tank.

"I have been hired as a new torture device for the Grey Warden. I take its little head in my hands and until it gives the answer the Master wants, I squeeze... and squeeze... Here, let me demonstrate. I shall borrow one of the guards... Stop squirming!"
