Infinite ammo with overheat, or thermal clips?

-They can change the amount of time it takes to cool down
-They don't have to put mods in that allow you to shoot forever without gaining heat.
-I like the fact that enemy ai can make so I cant use my weapon for awhile, forcing me to change tactics, or weapons
I find that both have good and bad qualitys.

Well weapons that fire rounds near light speed would have to have a hell of a cooling system. Just waiting 3 seconds shouldn't magically cool off that gun. Lore wise and based on certain laws of physics, thermal clips make sense and I applaud Bioware at making that move. I advise ppl just get better aim lol
Not to mention that the metals in the gun probably won't feel so good when they're rapidly heated and cooled so often.

I think lore is pointless when disussing any Bioware game. They do what they want regardless. I'm more concerned about gameplay.

Good, so you would be concerned about how much thermal clips improved combat in ME 2.

a universe in which magic rocks give people the power to FTL travel and you complain about people potentially creating better, sturdier, more durable alloys for guns?.....really?

Especially when you have guns with three slots.
Spectre guns were so awesome. It may have been "gamebreaking" or whatever but it was fun mixing and matching what you wanted to use.

Why?
Because my two favorite classes are the Infiltrator and the Vanguard, who specialize in the Sniper Rifle and Shotgun respectively. Both of which have such ridiculously small ammo capacities I'd be better off using actual bullets. As a result of which in more than half the fights in the game, I'm forced to switch to a freaking sub-machine gun becuase the weapon my class is centered around doesn't work anymore because I ran out of cold. Yay! *facepalm*
This does not enhance my game play, it makes me wonder why, if thermal clips are interchangable, I can't just take one out of my heavy pistol and keep shooting the gun I'm actually built to use?
I know it's not going to change, but really, who thought a mechanic whose use it a continual reminder of how little sense it makes, was a good idea?

yes because A: it did not improve the gameplay, it just made it more appealing for the shooter crowd and B: the same result could have been achieved WITHOUT spitting in the face of the lore

I'm pretty sure "near light speed" is an exaggeration. At sizable fractions of c, even a few milligrams of metal would have the kinetic energy roughly equivalent to the explosive energy of a nuclear warhead! The fact that you can shoot unshielded targets without such dramatic consequences disproves that idea. Also, even the mighty Cain only achieves a projectile velocity of 5 km/s, which is nowhere near the speed of light.

Wrong sir, it increased the pacing of combat by reducing the time waiting for your gun to cool. It also made you think more if you ran out of ammo for a gun, instead of switching weapons for a few seconds you need to change tactics until you get more ammo.

Just saying. When you're dealing with it that way, you're just asking it to malfunction.

It also motivated people to use their powers more often. In ME1, I could just blow through everything the second I had enough assault rifle/pistol points.

Even so, the amount of heat that a, and I must repeat this, micro-scaled automatic railgun would give off would be incredible.
I believe it's stated in the codex or in one of the planet descriptions that lithium is used as a coolant for these weapons. In other words, the same stuff that's sometimes used as a coolant in nuclear reactors.

Oh look, this thread again.
The overheat mechanism is gone. Dead, kaput. It has ceased to be and gone to meet its maker. Its a stiff, bereft of life it rests in peace, and no matter how many wannabee necromancers keep posting about it, it will not be making a comeback.
Deal with it.
It is an ex-feature!

I played insanity using basically only 2 guns..........NEVER ran out of ammo. There is no need to change tactics if you really never find yourself running out often

I for one enjoyed the Hammerhead but let us not argue over this, as it would be off topic.

it should have been called "paperhead"
and I could take Videos of it where after locking on a target your spam-missiles literally veer 90 degrees in the wrong direction for no apparent reason missing a target that is simply dead ahead
as on "idea" I would be ok with it......it's realization was awful

Exactly. You can't get rid of all that in less than thirty seconds.

Yes, but how many times did you use your powers? I bet you used more powers per mission than you did in ME 1. I for one ran throug hardcore in ME 1 as an Adept predominantly using my pisol and only using my powers here and there.
