i remember a month or two back seeing a vid of the end of this quest, and i could have sworn there were dialogue options that involved taking the whole urn, but i've never seen anything like this in game... was that option removed or have i just not figured out how to make it happen?

I never saw that option. It would've been very useful in battle.

No it seems like that was changed. The decision comes into play only after, when you are exiting you can be asked by the research dude whether to share ashes with people or keep them secret. Sharing seemed to provide a good ending too, unlike you are led to believe from dialogue.

If you kill the high dragon and cult the ashes become a regular pilgimage.

If you don't kill the high dragon the ashes are never again found (presumably the dragon snacks on the pilgrims).

Haven't polluted the ashes yet, and never seen an option to take the whole thing.
