Yep. I am now angry.
Look I realize Mordin's role in ME3 is fairly small (likely just the one mission). But that's not an excuse to not get him back. I'm especially curious to know why since Beattie himself has stated he wished to reprise his role. If it was a schedule issue alright fine, it happens. But if this is a money issue that's not cool. I can't imagine he would ask for that much money. Maybe I'm wrong.
This is also makes me wonder who else has been replaced in the VA department. Is Martin Sheen still voicing The Illusive Man? Who else isn't returning at this point? I hate to say it but not having VAs reprise their role is exceptionally stupid for a character driven game. The VAs are the ones who really bring the characters to life. For a Developer that's always had an emphasis on voicing all their characters this is pretty sad.
Let's just hope game reviews and the general audience don't notice this sort of thing.
Michael Beattie won't be voicing Mordin in ME3 it seems.

I'm trying not to be a jerk. But yes I'm extremely tempted to pass this news along to several game review sites. I'm starting to wonder if I should have done so sooner. Maybe putting some hot coals under Bioware/EA's feet may have rectified this issue. I generally don't like to do such things as they seem childish, but I dunno. I really feel this is crossing line.
I'll give this some time, but thing is it's probably already too late.
What's really bugging me though is according to these emails and such Beattie hasn't even been contacted. So either Beattie is fibbing or Bioware/EA was stingy enough to not even bother trying to get him back. If this the case I think I may just have to excuse myself from BSN permamently as I doubt I'll ever have anything nice to say here again.

I think it may simply be that Michael Beattie demanded more than BioWare could afford. Probably not the best conclusion but it's entirely possible. It's business, after all.
That's the idea I got as well. I had a gut feeling from the way he was responding to those e-mails that he knew the fans would demand him back, and wanted to use that as leverage.
Unfortunate because Beattie's VA'ing was possibly the single best in the game. But, anyone who's worked at that level knows the reality of budget concerns and why you don't overpay for things like this. It's not monopoly money.
Mordin's character is supposed to be really old for a salarian. When I hear the change in voice, I'll just attribute it to his aging.

I have a hard time picturing Beattie demanding more money for a bit part. The guy gets plenty of work and he knows that he's not a big name celebrity like Martin Sheen or Carrie Anne Moss. Besides, he's said he hasn't been contacted and would love to reprise the role of Mordin if he had the opportunity.

And the voicecast is secret because they got one or two new big names, and they want to make a nice surprise.
Being hopeful makes you live longer, or so I heard.

As far as we've been told, all voice recording is complete. So unless Beattie, BioWare, or both, are trolling, it's fair to assume that Beattie has been replaced.Maybe he is returning, then again maybe he isn't. The fact still remains that the voice cast has yet to be officially announced so let's wait and see, shall we?

In those character surveys the fans held months back it was always either Mordin, Wrex or Garrus who took the top spot.jreezy wrote...

If Beattie's replacement did a good job, that's great. If not, I'll just have to put up with it.

While I am disapointed that Beattie won't be reprising as Mordin for ME3, I might as well give his replacement a chance. I don't want to make any snap judgements until I actually play the game myself.

I don't think anyone here (with any common sense) will really dislike whomever the person is doing his voice now. Just think people are really befuddled by not knowing why he didn't return.
I'll give whomever did his voice in the leaked Demo props, I thought parts of it sounded like Beattie.

Yeah, I certainly have no intentions of auto-hating the new voice actor by any means.
I have no intentions of doing that either. Still, chances are this ruins the character for me, as it did with not-Anders. So I won't be hating on the VA, but on Bioware instead, unless they present an incredibly convincing reason for the recast. I'm actually feeling sorry for the potential new guy, should this all be true, because I'd have a real hard time enjoying his work, regardless of how good it may be, like I had with Howden's "Anders".
A case in which "the new guy" has all the support and consideration I'm able to give would be Liam McIntyre as Spartacus, because this guy has one hell of a thankless and hard job taking over the role from the late Andy Whitfield. People hating on him because he'll never be "the real Spartacus" are just tasteless and unfair.
So there are cases of justified and neccessary recasts, but so far I haven't seen anything why this would be the case with Mordin/Beattie. It's great that Bioware has scheduled the release for every piece of information from now til release (as long as it's not Origin, because nobody at Bioware/EA knows **** about this topic atm), but I'd really like a comment on this before the official VA announcments.
Recasting Mordin Solus (or any character for that matter, but him of all?!) without a damn good reason would make it extremly hard for me to like/respect Bioware, and I'd still like to do that very much.
