...What the hell, Bioware?

Of all the characters to skimp on, you do it to MORDIN? Why?!?!?

I'm sure money is the root of all this - either Beattie was asking for too much or EA felt they could hire something else for much cheaper.

How can he be asking for too much when he apparently hasn't even been contacted about it?

I get the strong feeling that it's about money from EA/BioWare's side and that they just think they can hire a cheap replacement for less cost, which is just pathetic, weak, greedy and shallow on BioWare's part if that's the case. But why else would they be so damn quiet about the issue?

I'll be honest - I don't think they are too worried about the tiny fraction of their fans that are Mordin fans...I don't even think thats 1% of their customer market.

I'll give you that they probably don't care very much about Mordin fans, but you're way wrong about us not being even 1% of players. Way wrong.

His popularity as pick for ME3's squad was comparable to that of Miranda, Liara, even Tali (who, might I add, was added to ME3's squad because of fan demand). And these numbers include non-BSNers, because the poll was open to anybody who viewed my thread.

Honestly, that would only make sense if we had reason to believe Mordin's VA was being paid substantially more than the rest of the ME2 cast, which I'm not sure if we even know. Otherwise, they would at least have offered him the same role at a lower salary before taking it away altogether. That was the case with Arthas' original voice-actor from Warcraft III before they changed it for WoW.

And finally we get something akin to a works cited! I applaud you, "Who Would Know" for actually backing up your statements with resources! That's, unheard of on a forum.

Liar.

Not liking Mordin is like not liking Wrex.

I honestly don't agree with that, or anyone who tries to make people "like" chracters on the forums. The great thing about Mass Effect is you can draw your own conclusions about characters and personalities. I love Garrus to death, but others may not. Just like I have don't really care for Tali, others certainly do and I think it's a good idea to respect that.

On the other hand, if this was a joke, don't listen to me. haha

Are you an idiot? Dumb question.

Talimancer to the rescue!

No, intelligent people to the rescue. That does not incldude you btw.

Lol... To be honest, I'll gladly give up Jacob, Jack, Grunt etc for the return of Micheal Beattie for Mordin..

What worries me is that if Bioware is already skimping on VOICE-ACTING which has been the strongest suit for Bioware just imagine what else have they skimped on in the game??  :pinched:

I wonder though, why they chose to do that. I am sure there was a good reason.

Certainly not on the likes of Kinect support and Multiplayer, that's for sure. They can spend money on developing those, but not on bringing back a voice actor who considering some of the other talent they have (Martin Sheen, Seth Green, Keith David, Yvonne Strahovski, Carrie Ann Moss, Lance Henricksen, etc.) can't be that pricey.

Not to mention Brandon Keener, Liz Sroka, Steven Barr, Ali Hillis, and especially Jennifer Hale and Mark Meer as priorities since they are Shepard. Then again, i'll sure they both are under contract. BW knew this was going to b a trilogy from the start so they cant lose their "star players".

Thats ALOT of talent they got to hold onto Image IPB
Jezuz, thats alot of money going around.

I see this skimp word being bandied about, can someone confirm that he was cut because of pay? Anyone?

Until we know why he's not Mordin this time, anything you guess is premature and without merit.

Well BioWare seem to refuse to say anything on the matter, so whatever the reasoning is, it seems to be something they likely feel won't put them in a good light. They know after defending themselves time after time against the likes of, "you're wasting money and resources on multiplayer, etc.!" that saying "budget reasons" isn't going to fly with a lot of fans here.

Might I add too, I don't know about other fans, but I personally would rather do without Mordin and have another salarian in his place in ME3 than have some cheap imposter in his place. I'm all about seeing my favourite characters again, choices and consequences and import decisions from previous games having meaning and all, but I'd rather not see him at all than have one of my favourite characters butchered or done half-assed like this via replacement that just ends with me being taken out of the game and dreading what may otherwise be a good section of the game.

People should realize that character thread posts =/= actual popularity. Unless you want to tell me Wrex and Legion are unpopular too.

Bioware: "Screw character continuity! We just want to get the damn thing done!"

Shocker.

Seriously, though, it's interesting that they decided to cut such a beloved character's VA, while there are a bunch of high-priced actors who are already signed on to the project. The awesome thing is that we'll never know exactly why Beattie was snubbed, so people will continue to deny any wrongdoing on Bioware's part until the freaking cows come home.

My own, my lovely, my precious BSN...

There are a plethora of things, either inherently wrong, or just plain ridiculous about the above post. I really, truly do not know where to begin.

I guess the best place to start would be that you spelled "include" incorrectly...

I love Mordin, hands down my favorite new character in ME2.  That said, silence is still no reason for mass hysteria and wild speculation.  We literally know nothing, and coprorate secrets trump what makes sense any day of the week.  I have seen it countless times, even if the news was somehow good, it would still be behind their information blackout.

They aren't telling us anything because they have an internal schedule that they are keeping to, that includes all reaveals.

BSN, keeping the collective, mentally unstable gamer confined to one form since 2010 and beyond.

Yeah...first of all the sample size is not nearly large enough to accurately reflect the views of millions of Mass Effect gamers.  Secondly, the population the sample was taken from is BSN limited, which means it is skewed, reflective of the type of people who get obsessive enough about the game to take to the forums, but not of the general ME fan populace.
