This...SUCKS.

This sucks hard man. What the hell Bioware?

This really doesn't seem like Bioware.  At best both parties are equally responsible, but usually in situations like this actors just ask for more money than the developer thinks their voice acting/character is worth (and they usually have a better idea of how valuable it is, since they are the ones making the game).  Beattie had a great role, and instead of taking the money that was offered to him and having the privilege to play Mordin again in the final Mass Effect game, it seems like he chose to roll the dice on holding out for more.  Obviously the gambit didn't pay off, thus you have the current situation.  Again, a bit of assumption on my part, but really what else could it be.  As people have said, his voice acting was very well received, so it's not like Bioware would want to replace him.  His role just isn't large enough in ME3 to justify them paying a large amount for him.  He is not on the AAA level of value as Meer/Sheen/Hale, or the AA value of Hillis/any main squadmate in ME3's voice actor.  He is a single A for ME3, much like Jack's voice actor or any other of the squadmates like Thane who will be reduced to cameos or single mission companions.

I love Mordin, hands down my favorite new character in ME2.  That said, silence is still no reason for mass hysteria and wild speculation.  We literally know nothing, and coprorate secrets trump what makes sense any day of the week.  I have seen it countless times, even if the news was somehow good, it would still be behind their information blackout.

They aren't telling us anything because they have an internal schedule that they are keeping to, that includes all reaveals.

Despite the fact that the VA director said that all VA recording was officially completed and that Beattie said he hasn't been contacted about returning...

Everyone should sign it. Call your friends, spread the word, send a telegram to your great grandparents in Greenland. Do what must be done! So say we all.

Bioware doesn't listen to petitions.

Not officially, that would open up a can of worms.  However, they are human beings.  When they see petitions they can't unsee them; they can't ignore their existence or completely dismiss the feedback.

I really wonder what's the reason for this.. There can't be any bad blood between Beattie and Bioware since Beattie is credited as additional voice in The Old Republic even though the VO process is handled by Lucasarts.

I am a bit dissappointed, doesn't ruin the game for me, but Mordin just isn't Mordin anymore.

Kind of reminds me of the whole Iron Man/iron Man 2 casting change of Rhodes from Terrence Howard to Don Cheedle(Howard wanted more money, marvel said no, they replaced him). Except we don't know the reason why Mordin's voice actor changed. Hell maybe it was a union decision (far-fetched)?

I think you got it right the first time there.  The union thing is not correct for sure...not sure what other reason there could be.  And this is even worse that Terrence Howard asking for more money; both characters were not integral to the success of either work, but War Machine is FAR more important in relation to the Iron Man story than Mordin is in relation to the Mass Effect story...so I mostly blame Beattie for not making it work and not accepting the honor of reprising his role (even if it may be an underpaid role).

I'll be honest - I don't think they are too worried about the tiny fraction of their fans that are Mordin fans...I don't even think thats 1% of their customer market.

I'll give you that they probably don't care very much about Mordin fans, but you're way wrong about us not being even 1% of players. Way wrong.

His popularity as pick for ME3's squad was comparable to that of Miranda, Liara, even Tali (who, might I add, was added to ME3's squad because of fan demand). And these numbers include non-BSNers, because the poll was open to anybody who viewed my thread.

Interesting chart though given Garrus' lead I cannot help but think it was mainly introduced to a section of the fanbase more biased towards him....even unintentionally perhaps. Still that's not really important...the results are consistent with most other polls out there. Tali and Garrus rule the day as always with an extremely strong support for Legion also well reflecting fan reaction to his surprising appearence which I would hope convinces BioWare to make him a permanent squaddie for ME3. Mordin in on 6th which is a strong position but I expected him to have more support....still that would be a hard feat to pull off given the ME1 favorites and Legion's fans are indeed legion not to mention Mordin is the only other character to really stick up there with the ME1 faves.

On a different note a surprising newfoud support for Kaidan who was down in the dumps after ME1, still fairly low but but not dead bottom. Jacob was completely trashed showing a major failure on BioWare's part to create a more likable human romance for the women....although a bit of common sense should have warned them beforehand.

As a villain Morinth did well to be the most despised, kind of a pitty her role in the franchise is mostly done. At the same time I am shocked at how low Zaeed ended up, I was certain all the Wrex fans would jump to support him....pernhaps if he was on a different voting sheet from wrex he'd be more up there to better reflect his true support. Thane's failure also places more perspective on Garrus' lead given that he is by and far the best romance option for female players while the males are far more undecided between more balanced, poppular and likeable romance option.

All in all a great effort, thanks for making this happen.

I read the budgets for actors were much lower in Iron Man 2 and even Sam Jackson threatened to quit. He would have been paid less than some of the actors in TV series for one episode.

Bioware, you're really starting to test my loyalty here lol.

First you teamed up with EA (lets face it; those cretins are bound to screw up any game series they come in contact with)

Then ME3 gets multiplayer(which may or may not be bad as it seems, we dont know yet)

THEN Jack Wall, the composer for Mass Effect's music gets replaced.(still, may not be a bad thing, but couldnt his departure wait until AFTER the trilogy finishes???)

Now one of the character's voice actors gets replaced. And its fast-talking MORDIN of all of them. Charactors play a main role in Mass Effect games(needless to say, their voice also plays a main role xP) so the replacement better be good. :/

Yes but he also signed the multi-picture deal to reprise Nick Fury in those roles either before or shortly after IM2, for like every Marvel movie ever.  Iron Man Uno however had Howard as the highest paid actor.  Over RDJr.  Who played Iron Man!

EDIT:  I however hope that Mordin still plays a decent sized role in ME3 and still look forward to his return, no matter how short it is.

Except that they didn't listen to those either.

You don't need petitions to know Tali is popular.

Take a quick look at game convection's for example.

You always got a question for Tali, but like never for Miranda who is looking from only BSN probably more popular then Tali.

In my case, I wouldnt say "loyalty".
I would say there testing my patience. Hah.

I agree, EA is like Lava, it ruins anything/everything it touches.

Multiplayer. Meh. Im still talking with myself and seeing if I like the idea or not since no one else will listen to my constant ramblings.

ANNNND Zomg the music guy got replaced?
Lawdy tbh
dem foos need sum of mirandas butcheks tbh:pinched:

I just don't understand why everyone is instantly blaming Bioware without even looking into blaming Beattie at all...

It takes two to tango.

The awesome thing is that we'll never know exactly why Beattie was snubbed, so people will continue to deny any wrongdoing on Bioware's part until the freaking cows come home.

Yes, and other people will continue to insist on it being wrongdoing on Bioware's part just as incessantly and tediously.  Both groups would be well-advised to shut up due to not actually knowing a damn thing, but they won't.

Why no official reply from BioWare? The game is pretty close to release.

Also, I guess there's still the chance that the guy sending the e-mail messages isn't the real Michael Beattie.

Real classy of Bioware to do that.
