Michael Beattie won't be voicing Mordin in ME3 it seems.

Or they could just market it to a new audience that doesn't know who Mordin is.Darth_Trethon wrote...
Actually I think they do because with all the other issues EA has going on(Origin and all that) their reputation is going down in flames and soon enough all these other smaller issues will keep piling up and actually hurting their sales severely. They do need to start sorting things out starting with some of the smaller and more limited issues like this one, which will only largely impact the most dedicated Mordin fans.

It'd just be nice if Bioware explained why. Beattie seems like a nice guy, but you never know what sort of inner drama might have gone on. I find it hard to believe they 'just never contacted him'.

What I want to know is what the hell happened? I can't see any reason why they wouldn't just use him. They have super minor characters return as voice actors, Mordin having a smaller role isn't really a reason not to use him. If anything it means they could get it done in a day.

I've never seen solid proof of this but the widely held belief is that he asked for more money for his services and apparently BioWare/EA disagreed. It seems a plausible reason but even if true nobody is going to care about that, people will simply notice that Mordin got screwed up.

So this is what they meant by that "perfect entry point" stuff. Mindsets like this are detrimental to the "we just want to make games with great stories" that people from BioWare have uttered.who would know wrote...
I never thought it'd actually come to this, Dr. Mordin Solus, of all characters, being recast.
I guess I might just let him die as Beattie, too, because personally, Beattie's gem of a performance was indispensable to this character. The PLC wrote...
Let's just hope that they haven't done this with other characters...
Bioware... don't!
Who even cares anymore, after this? I know I don't.
And remember, Mass Effect 3 is a fresh beginning for the series. It's a natural entry point. There's zero reason for the final installment of the Mass Effect trilogy to become hung up on trivialities like character consistency or choice and consequence.

How about you wait for Bioware to explain why they decided to recast Mordin's VA.

whatever the reason it's clear that ME3 would be better with Michael Beattie as Mordin rather than a new actor trying to emulate Michael Beattie as Mordin .

I already know that whoever they get it's going to be bad. Mark Meer was horrible in comparisonwildannie wrote...
I think it must go beyond a simple issue of money, there must be some other disagreement or personality clash going on.

It seems Beattie was willing to retake his role as Mordin with no objections, so what else could it be besides money?

Look at Dragon Age 2, Greg Ellis voiced Anders in DA Awakening, but Adam Howden voiced Anders in DA2, even though Greg Ellis was already contracted to providing VO for DA2!!!
And its not just Bioware, Blizzard changed the VO for Kerrigan from Glynnis Talken-Campbell in Starcraft to Tricia Helfe in Starcraft 2!
So who knows the reason...
And it's a shame because these changes in VAs has often affected my enjoyment of any particular character. Anders is one great example, but they also did it with WoW's Arthas and Assassin's Creed: Revelations' Altair. I'm really hoping Mordin doesn't follow a similar pattern.

agreed, MBs voice brought Mordin to life and no-one is going to be able to capture that magic in the same way... MB *is* Mordin.

You do realize Greg Ellis voiced Cullen in Dragon Age II, right? The change there I think was so that he doesn't control two important characters at once. And for me, it was a welcome change at the very least, although Anders lost a bit of his snarky edge...
As for Michael Beattie...yeah it sucks, he was pretty much perfect for Mordin. But I guarentee that people will forget and let it go once Mass Effect 3 does come out. Stuff happens, not much we can do about it.

I do indeed, but it really changes nothing for my enjoyment. Anders was the sole Awakening character I liked, and the new VA really wasn't able to capture any of the subtle sarcasm that really set Anders apart for me. My main point is that changing a character's VA can dramatically affect perceptions of that character.

It won't matter. BioWare clearly doesn't give a f***. I will be buying ME3 used. I may only be one customer, but I will make sure BioWare doesn't see a dime. All I'll miss out on is some s***ty DLC and MP. Big f***ing deal. Goodbye, BW.

I'm starting to consider this. Going into ME3 without him playing Mordin ****ing Solus feels wrong.
