So ever since DA2 came out I have migrated over to the Mass Effect forums for most of the time but I lurk around here every now and then still.  The reception of DA2 has made DA3 a sort of sink or swim scenario for Bioware in terms of the survival of the franchise.  My thesis is this, and it is a simple one:

Bringing Morrigan back as a main character will save the franchise.

I really do think it is that simple.  Claudia Black has such a gravity in her voice acting; combine that with one of the franchise's most (if not the most) compelling characters and you have gold on your hands, and yes EA if you are reading this I know you have a raging boner after reading the word "gold" and thinking, "Could this loser be right?  Is the path to GOLD really that simple?"  So yeah, basically by bringing Morrigan back all of the other pieces fall into place naturally.  The story would obviously relate to Old Gods / Taint, which is getting things focused again and back on track, and you would have a nostalgic figure from the universally well-received game, DA:O.

Anyway, just my opinion.  I don't think it's an exaggeration of Morrigan's importance to the franchise or her likeability, but maybe others disagree.  Thoughts?

Edit* Sorry if unclear.  I do not mean make Morrigan the protagonist/player character in DA3, I meant bring her back as a main character in the story.  As in, you know, party member and such.

Morrigan as a main protagonist ? No character creation ? No different races ? Only one class (Mage) ? No thank you.
I am not interested at all in playing as her nor in this whole OGB thing.

I think there may be a misunderstanding...I said bring her back as a main character, not as the protagonist.

Ahh -  as a companion or as an important npc ? Ok.
I don't have much to say then as i am indifferent about that

LOL it's going to take a lot more than Morrigan's return to save the DA franchise... A LOT more.

After Witch Hunt, I'm fine never seeing Morrigan again. And didnt really do that much for me in Origins either. So yes, in my opinion I think its a complete exaggaration on her importance. Especially given how optional the OGB thingie is.

However I do like Claudia Black. But The Old Republic will be scratching that itch just fine. She's a player voice there.

Meh, Morrigan usually wasn't very important to my Origins games

I didn't know the franchise needs to be saved? Is there some impeding doom coming down on it? Have I missed something!?

Those are rhetorical questions just in case you are wondering, because the obvious answer to those three questions is: [sten_impression_NO.=true] !

Or...get Morrigan back, and ruin her too.

I'm sure they'll bring Morrigan back in DA3...not sure if she'll have a big role.

I don't think she's needed to 'save' the franchise anyway.

Bringing her back like they did in Witch Hunt? No thanks.
If its inevitable, please try to get the same German voice actress.
Alistair, Teagan , Leliana and Zevran were totally ruined by changing the actors. I cant even play male Hawke, because he has the voice of DA:O Zevran. <_<

So true! And it boggles my mind why people ask for their wardens back. Not with the new change in art style, thank you very much. ;)

Also, I don't want her back as a main character. I'd rather hear rumors about what she may or may not be up to. I'd rather the writers not mess up anybody's story canon (the OGB conflict). I'm not sure what the writers intended with the whole Flemeth vs. Morrigan thing, but unless they can tie that into the changing times, I'd rather they just left those two alone and move on.

In the English versions he has the same voice as the rapist in the City Elf Origin. Awful.

What the hell...this is Morrigan in DA 2?  Seriously?  Is she in DA 2?  I've yet to play it (am now on Origins...late to the party).  Did they muck up other characters as well?  After seeing the likes of the Witcher 2 and Skyrim, even Origins which is older than either of those...that's just...well...bad across the board and almost down to Morrowind quality.

No, no, no, don't bring her back...not like this.

Ugh, am quickly losing whatever enthusiasm I had for DA 2 (copy arrives today).

wut...wut...wut? I know in the English version the VA's were exactly the same for all those characters and Hawke was voiced by the same guy that did Vaughn/Ser Bryant/ and a few others. How screwed up was the voice acting in the other languages?

Bringing Morrigan back might have to mean bringing the warden back, or ruining that particular ending, because right now in my DA:O playthrough, Morrigan went through the eluvian with my warden.

Alistair/Teagan: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-p45GzVKgNrs/TX0akJ5QC7I/AAAAAAAABrc/euVzy4G4_no/s800/Dragon-Age-2-Alistair-Teagan.jpg

Zevran: http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/4944/motivator7d50497e64257d.jpg

And they feel even worse in motion. Just google/youtube the names, I
for one am fairly certain there are little to none spoilers to DA2, at
least with these characters (they have horribly pointless roles there - they're only there "just because", without any good reason imho). Leliana was meh, but not utterly ugly as
these guys were made out.

But luckily, no, Morrigan was not in DA2 - this is just how the engine would interpret her for DA2.

As to the topic - I think you can
find my position implied by this reply already. + I'd add that they need to
remodel the art design in order to bring any association to DA:O down
to a believable and relevant extent.

Well, as a possible DA3 would be designed for next-gen consoles & PC, the whole visual design/quality of the Dragon Age Universe is bound to change considerably. I hope that the team takes the time to design a character creator that allows the faithful (& enhanced) recreation of main characters from the Dragon Age universe. Where does the "Morrigan" on this page come from? It bears no resemblance whatsoever to Morrigan from DA:O.

I could see her being a sort of Aribeth figure (quest guide) if you choose the self preservation path rather than the Chantry (Cassandra) or mages (someone else?) path.

Of course that would mean significantly branching stories, granted they could do the thing where it's the same missions but with different angles on them, but it's a fine line between well executed and contrived there.
