I sure as hell hope we get a new voice actress. I can't stand Hale's femshep.

You people want to exchange the VA right in the midst (sort of) of the series? That's like Bruce Willis getting ditched for Mr.T for "Die Hard" #3 and #4 (regardless of the movie qualities that is).

Hale sucks and we're getting a new femshep anyway.

Oh? and where have you got this infomation from?
As far as i know Hale's already done the VA for Femshep

Don't worry, that's not what Saphra meant. Hale is indeed the voice of female Commander Shepard in all three games.

Agreed. She's great as Bastilla in KotOR, but I just don't find her believable at all in Mass Effect, which is a shame really.

I'm sorry, the game is 2 months away from gold and voice acting was just finished a couple of days ago. "Right in the midst" would have been accurate 5 months ago.

You didn't understand what I meant.

wow, Hale does a masterful job portraying both renegade shep and paragon shep. Her inflections are spot on perfect amazing. Anyone else VA fem shep would be playing pretend with the character. I am at a loss when people dislike her portrayal she doesn't over sell it nor does she undersell she's just perfect what exactly is it that some people think she lacks? Theres a word for this feeling

Flabbergasted. That's it

Reminds me of the fable where the nightingale and the crow have a sing off and they ask a pig to be the judge. The pig prefers the crow. The crow gets all full of himself and the Nightingale is all like "well, look who my judge is."

Jennifer Hale is the Femshep nightingale. I luvs her soooo much,

No Hale's not getting replaced.

I don't even like her VA and that would ****** me off.

Also...replaying ME1 and not seeing this terribad voice acting by Meer. It's not OMG AMAZING but it's not so bad that I want to mute the game. Not seeing said great voice acting by Hale either.

Can't stand femshep, but can't stand her fans even more. Never met a more militantly biased group on a game forum in my life (Tali fans come close). Yes, we get that you like her. But just because we don't, does not mean we are sexist or chauvinist in any way. I personally find her voice to be far too old for the age of the character (she sounds like a woman in her mid-40s, and Shepard is, by ME3, early 30s). Captain Janeway is an apt comparison.

Moreover, the constant criticism of Mark Meer, and excessive praise of Hale is puzzling at best, as there have been multiple occasions where I have found her delivery to be dry, and frankly, cold.

Bioware has released data showing that only 20% of players play as Femshep. And yet, there is an expectation in this small minority of players that Bioware should dilute their marketing message and branding, and possibly confuse potential new players, simply to appease and validate this small group.

Femshep fans: Your trailer is being developed. You have her on the cover. Jennifer Hale has been given more media attention and focus than Mark Meer by far. But Sheploo has been the face of the brand since 2007. Please be reasonable.

First of all you're correct in all respects. I say that and I happen to prefer female Shepard to male Shepard, but that's just my personal choice. The female Shepard fanatics are a minority and are best ignored in my opinion. Sheploo is still the marketing Shepard and well he looks pretty good in my opinion. As long as I get the option to play female Shepard, that's good enough. Don't care about the posters, cover, trailers or anything else.

My answer to all these pro female Shepard threads, is please realise that this is a video game, not a reflection on feminism and women's rights. You want to talk about women's rights (which is a worthy cause in my opinion), there are plenty of organisations to do so. Bioware Social Network isn't the place for that. Female Shepard is not a feminist statement or argument. End of story.

20% isn't a small portion of your fanbase. And that statistic isn't very clear - what they've said is that 80% played with Man Shep, which doesn't address how many play both. And of course, you might get more if Femshep wasn't neglected in the marketing.

I really can't understand the idea that Hale is dry and cold. If anything, I'd say she overplays it - Meer's less emotional delivery is maybe more military and less intrusive if you're playing a self insert.

Agreed 100% There are also times where she comes off as too loud and emotional. More people do play as male shep so the marketing team is right to focus on him more. I also hate how when people criticize female shephard they're called sexist

They probably didn't even consider replacing Hale as the VA. Changing voice actors mid-run never goes over well, even changing the VAs for background characters wouldn't work. The voice is as much a part of the character as the looks, doubly so with Shepard seeing as you can customize him or her.

Joker voiced by someone other than Seth Green would be unacceptable, so would FemShep being voiced by someone other than Hale or MaleShep being voiced by someone other than Meer.

Why would they change VA? But I agree with you on Claudia Black, OP. She would be perfect alternative.

You didn't understand what I meant.

It's the last game in the series, 2 months away from going gold. What you meant was perfectly clear.

Your statement is only relevant if they make a Mass Effect 4, which is no certainty.

It would be absurd to change the VA when we already have and identifiable voice in Hale's work.

The same cannot be applied to the appearance because there is no canon Sheppard (except Sheploo)

Also Bioware would have to face the rage of HaleLovers.

Considering how big a sh*tstorm is occurring because Mordin was replaced, if FemShep miraculously received a voice overhaul this late in development...well, the rage cup runneth over.

Even if FemShep is not a feminst argument. I must say as a woman who love sci-fi stories, or just adventure/action stories overall, when I watch a movie or play most other games it is constantly stuffed down my throat how amazing men are. While women are almost always reduced to roles of love interests or helping hands. Even is women sometimes get better roles in movies today, they are rarely the ones that save the day. And it is here FemShep stands out. A woman in a role usually reserved for men, and that is extremely refreshing.

Agreed.  It's easy for some male players (not all just to be clear) to not get why many female gamers are pushing increased marketing for FemShep, because well, their gender was always in the forefront in vieo games or sci-fi.  They don't have to watch their gender portrayed as nothing better than the love interest who has to be rescued or the "badass" woman who parades around in a leather catsuit with a boob window.

FemShep was the first time I felt like I could play a female character that was on par with her male counterpart.  As for showing FemShep not helping marketing, I just want to say that I didn't buy Mass Effect because at first because I thought you could only play a guy.  Then I looked it up and found that wasn't the case and snatched that game up immediately( I'm a girl in case that wan't clear)

So for all who don't get it, FemShep's fans push hard because we want the amazing that is Female Shepard to be out there and for Fem Shep players, many of which are female, to finally be acknowledged in marketing like they never really were before.

People annoyed with her fans, no one made you go into her threads and nobody's making you play as her.  Your hate is absolutely pointless and increased marketing for Fem Shep does not negatively affect you in any way, so perhaps you should reevalute your  anger

Oh, and I think Hale does an amazing job. I prefer her to Meer, though I think he does a good job as well. They're both good and it would be terrible if they had been replaced

No Jennifer Hale would be one of the worst things they could do to this game.

And Claudia Black? I'd rather my FemShep not remind me of Morrigan, as much as I love that character.

I love the new design for FemShep and I thought I might give her a try this time. (Never felt compelled to try) I was wandering if she gets a new VA? I'd love to hear the girl who played FemHawke or maybe Claudia Black as the new FemShep. The old was was Butch sounding or I just didnt like her voice, so I never thought to play as her. I havent been following the news on her other than the redesign.

jennifer hale is a wonderful actress!!!

Hale is fine as femshep, and it's a good thing that she's in ME3.

It always sucks when actors (voice or live action) get changed out in a series.

I would like to retrospectively account for the curious lack of Jennifer Hale fan's militancy and instead highlight the only militant group that seems presents in here, which are the anti-Jennifer Hale guys.

Just being observant and revelling in the sweet, oh so sweet irony.

And now that has been done, back onto the topic:
People are honestly placing too much importance onto this whole marketing issue. I remember that one of the biggest concerns people had (and some do still have) on DAII was that you are limited to a single human protagonist only, yet I never experienced any backdraft or criticism on the obvious human centric DA:O marketing as it was in trailers. No one I remember petitioned for a dwarven trailer, or a elven trailer, or the likes.
Why is it so important now?

It is true that marketing to the female clientel of videogamers is quite limited in terms of product/marketing optimization for them, but that is hardly an issue at all as far as I would say. Female gamers are becoming more and more ackknowledged as customers, even in the "hardcore" gaming suites now that marketing is evolving to change to that situation.

And as I said, the mere thought of changing the voice-actor/actress of THE protagonist in such a protagonist-centric gaming series is mindboggingly off as far as I am concerned and obviously is not going to happen.
