My answer to all these pro female Shepard threads, is please realise that this is a video game, not a reflection on feminism and women's rights. You want to talk about women's rights (which is a worthy cause in my opinion), there are plenty of organisations to do so. Bioware Social Network isn't the place for that. Female Shepard is not a feminist statement or argument. End of story.
Even if FemShep is not a feminst argument. I must say as a woman who love sci-fi stories, or just adventure/action stories overall, when I watch a movie or play most other games it is constantly stuffed down my throat how amazing men are. While women are almost always reduced to roles of love interests or helping hands. Even is women sometimes get better roles in movies today, they are rarely the ones that save the day. And it is here FemShep stands out. A woman in a role usually reserved for men, and that is extremely refreshing.
Agreed. It's easy for some male players (not all just to be clear) to not get why many female gamers are pushing increased marketing for FemShep, because well, their gender was always in the forefront in vieo games or sci-fi. They don't have to watch their gender portrayed as nothing better than the love interest who has to be rescued or the "badass" woman who parades around in a leather catsuit with a boob window.
FemShep was the first time I felt like I could play a female character that was on par with her male counterpart. As for showing FemShep not helping marketing, I just want to say that I didn't buy Mass Effect because at first because I thought you could only play a guy. Then I looked it up and found that wasn't the case and snatched that game up immediately( I'm a girl in case that wan't clear)
So for all who don't get it, FemShep's fans push hard because we want the amazing that is Female Shepard to be out there and for Fem Shep players, many of which are female, to finally be acknowledged in marketing like they never really were before.
People annoyed with her fans, no one made you go into her threads and nobody's making you play as her. Your hate is absolutely pointless and increased marketing for Fem Shep does not negatively affect you in any way, so perhaps you should reevalute your anger
Oh, and I think Hale does an amazing job. I prefer her to Meer, though I think he does a good job as well. They're both good and it would be terrible if they had been replaced
"Your hate is absolutely pointless and increased marketing for Fem Shep does not negatively affect you in any way, so perhaps you should reevalute your anger"
These are precisely the kind of comments I was referring to in my statement, and precisely what FemShep fans ignore. We are not angry at Femshep, she is not real. We are angry at the emotional reactions you superimpose on others when they are in fact coming from you.
If you want more female gamers to be targeted, ask Bioware to put Femshep in adverts in magazines, TV shows and radio programs that are popular among women. Don't put it at the Spike awards where approximately 10% of the viewers are women.
I would recommend that some of the Femshep fans take a marketing class, and then make recommendations to Bioware if they want to accomplish their goals. And this isn't a men vs women argument. In fact, I would argue that the male Femshep fans are far more annoying than the female ones.
