I remember that one of the biggest concerns people had (and some do still have) on DAII was that you are limited to a single human protagonist only, yet I never experienced any backdraft or criticism on the obvious human centric DA:O marketing as it was in trailers. No one I remember petitioned for a dwarven trailer, or a elven trailer, or the likes.
Why is it so important now?

Probably because no dwarves or elves play DA:O.

It's a personal thing.

Hale is fine as femshep, and it's a good thing that she's in ME3.

It always sucks when actors (voice or live action) get changed out in a series.

Pretty much this. Lady Hawke has a smexy voice, and Hale did sound better in the KOTOR days, but she adds a more badass tone to Femshep, then C. Black and Lady Hawke would do I think.

Not gonna happen. Jennifer Hale is IMO the perfect FemShep voice, and shes a nice person too, there is no reason to drop her.

My answer to all these pro female Shepard threads, is please realise that this is a video game, not a reflection on feminism and women's rights. You want to talk about women's rights (which is a worthy cause in my opinion), there are plenty of organisations to do so. Bioware Social Network isn't the place for that. Female Shepard is not a feminist statement or argument. End of story.

Even if FemShep is not a feminst argument. I must say as a woman who love sci-fi stories, or just adventure/action stories overall, when I watch a movie or play most other games it is constantly stuffed down my throat how amazing men are. While women are almost always reduced to roles of love interests or helping hands. Even is women sometimes get better roles in movies today, they are rarely the ones that save the day. And it is here FemShep stands out. A woman in a role usually reserved for men, and that is extremely refreshing.

Agreed.  It's easy for some male players (not all just to be clear) to not get why many female gamers are pushing increased marketing for FemShep, because well, their gender was always in the forefront in vieo games or sci-fi.  They don't have to watch their gender portrayed as nothing better than the love interest who has to be rescued or the "badass" woman who parades around in a leather catsuit with a boob window.

FemShep was the first time I felt like I could play a female character that was on par with her male counterpart.  As for showing FemShep not helping marketing, I just want to say that I didn't buy Mass Effect because at first because I thought you could only play a guy.  Then I looked it up and found that wasn't the case and snatched that game up immediately( I'm a girl in case that wan't clear)

So for all who don't get it, FemShep's fans push hard because we want the amazing that is Female Shepard to be out there and for Fem Shep players, many of which are female, to finally be acknowledged in marketing like they never really were before.

People annoyed with her fans, no one made you go into her threads and nobody's making you play as her.  Your hate is absolutely pointless and increased marketing for Fem Shep does not negatively affect you in any way, so perhaps you should reevalute your  anger

Oh, and I think Hale does an amazing job. I prefer her to Meer, though I think he does a good job as well. They're both good and it would be terrible if they had been replaced

"Your hate is absolutely pointless and increased marketing for Fem Shep does not negatively affect you in any way, so perhaps you should reevalute your  anger"

These are precisely the kind of comments I was referring to in my statement, and precisely what FemShep fans ignore. We are not angry at Femshep, she is not real. We are angry at the emotional reactions you superimpose on others when they are in fact coming from you.

If you want more female gamers to be targeted, ask Bioware to put Femshep in adverts in magazines, TV shows and radio programs that are popular among women. Don't put it at the Spike awards where approximately 10% of the viewers are women.

I would recommend that some of the Femshep fans take a marketing class, and then make recommendations to Bioware if they want to accomplish their goals. And this isn't a men vs women argument. In fact, I would argue that the male Femshep fans are far more annoying than the female ones.

I love the new design for FemShep and I
thought I might give her a try this time. (Never felt compelled to try) I
was wandering if she gets a new VA? I'd love to hear the girl who
played FemHawke or maybe Claudia Black as the new FemShep. The old was
was Butch sounding or I just didnt like her voice, so I never thought to
play as her. I havent been following the news on her other than the
redesign.

Short Answer: No
Long Answer: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I personally find her voice to be far too old for the age of the character (she sounds like a woman in her mid-40s, and Shepard is, by ME3, early 30s).

Hale is 39 and I don't think her voice has really changed all that much in 10 years.

Sometimes Hale botches a few lines and makes me cringe, but I wouldn't have FemShep any other way. Considering the sheer amount of lines she has to record, she's done a fabulous job. She sounds strong, determined, and passionate--just how I like my FemSheps.

Meer's also grown on me, too. I think he does better than a lot of people give him credit for. The snappy monotone lends this charming "Buzz Lightyear" quality to BroShep, and there are a few times when there's been just enough emotion in his lines that I was like, dude, whoa.

Perhap's she does sound like she did 10 years ago, but her voice is both deep and raspy, making the character far older than her face appears, especially given the new default model.

So ME was your first BW game?

But honestly they wouldn't choose a new voice actor for Meer or Hale. They *are* Shep's voice at this point and changing that would be riduclous. Though it would be amusing for them to have to justify it. "Oh Shep got punched in the throat and his/her voice was forever changed!"

I agree completely. Hale will always be Shepard to me.

As far as Meer goes I've never had a problem with his performance as maleShep. He does a fine job and is a very talented and versatile voice actor.

Actually, there were trailers for each of the origins in DA:O.  And posters.  Some of the characters were represented by female characters, some by male.  Yet another reason why DA:O was awesome.

And marketing the female version of a main character will always be important, because it is representative of the developers' point of view towards that character.  FemShep was an afterthought in ME2, even more than ME1, and that's how she was in marketing too.  So it does make me more hopeful for FemShep's animations, textures, and cinematics in ME3, when she is getting a trailer this time around and she's on the CE box.

meer sucks dude. no redeeming or memorable qualities to his VA. boring, monotone, dull, lame. all great words to describe meer.

i want the dude from uncharted.

Last time I checked I didn't see Hale running around in armor with a gun in her hand trying to save the galaxy from reapers.

So saying "Hale is FemShep" is a false statement and it's getting a little prepetitive. It has already been said enough. No need to keep repeating it.

Personally, I don't give a damn. I never play FemShep anyway (mainly because I can't stand how BioWare handled femShep so far and because I can't stand Hale's voice-acting as femShep).

Yes but it's pointless to say "hale IS shepard". It's completely dumb. It sounds as if these people think it's impossible to switch Hale for someone else. It's not.

Sure, it might not be the best move to switch voice-actors in the last part of a trilogy, but it's not impossible. Hale only "is" Shepard as long as BioWare lets her do Shepard's voice. As soon as Hale got switched for, well... lets see... Tara Strong, then from that moment forth, Tara Strong "is" Shepard.

Ah well, the government keeps trying to cover it up.  You don't think all those robots fought for Saddam Hussein because he was so "charismatic" do you?
