New FemShep's design, does it come with a new voice actress?

worst idea ever.

^ This.

I *love* Jennifer Hale's voice work (except for the come-on lines, but I blame the direction there). I can't imagine anyone else being the voice of FemShep -- she sounds exactly the way I want a female soldier to sound.

As for the suggestion to replace her: you can't spell DOPEY without OP.

I'm just gonna go ahead and ask.

What's that supposed to mean?

In response to the OP, I'd have to say I personally like Hale. In addition, it's very difficult to switch a VA part way though a series. While not impossible, it doesn't make the games feel "connected" as you're no longer playing the same character with the same voice through all the games.

By the way, I do think it's funny that a discussion about whether Hale fit Femshep turned into a general discussion on Femshep and marketing Femshep.

*shakes head*

I hope not.

While I do enjoy watching Shep's posterior that by no means makes everyone incapable of being a leecher.

My answer to all these pro female Shepard threads, is please realise that this is a video game, not a reflection on feminism and women's rights. You want to talk about women's rights (which is a worthy cause in my opinion), there are plenty of organisations to do so. Bioware Social Network isn't the place for that. Female Shepard is not a feminist statement or argument. End of story.

Even if FemShep is not a feminst argument. I must say as a woman who love sci-fi stories, or just adventure/action stories overall, when I watch a movie or play most other games it is constantly stuffed down my throat how amazing men are. While women are almost always reduced to roles of love interests or helping hands. Even is women sometimes get better roles in movies today, they are rarely the ones that save the day. And it is here FemShep stands out. A woman in a role usually reserved for men, and that is extremely refreshing.

Agreed.  It's easy for some male players (not all just to be clear) to not get why many female gamers are pushing increased marketing for FemShep, because well, their gender was always in the forefront in vieo games or sci-fi.  They don't have to watch their gender portrayed as nothing better than the love interest who has to be rescued or the "badass" woman who parades around in a leather catsuit with a boob window.

FemShep was the first time I felt like I could play a female character that was on par with her male counterpart.  As for showing FemShep not helping marketing, I just want to say that I didn't buy Mass Effect because at first because I thought you could only play a guy.  Then I looked it up and found that wasn't the case and snatched that game up immediately( I'm a girl in case that wan't clear)

So for all who don't get it, FemShep's fans push hard because we want the amazing that is Female Shepard to be out there and for Fem Shep players, many of which are female, to finally be acknowledged in marketing like they never really were before.

People annoyed with her fans, no one made you go into her threads and nobody's making you play as her.  Your hate is absolutely pointless and increased marketing for Fem Shep does not negatively affect you in any way, so perhaps you should reevalute your  anger

Oh, and I think Hale does an amazing job. I prefer her to Meer, though I think he does a good job as well. They're both good and it would be terrible if they had been replaced

"Your hate is absolutely pointless and increased marketing for Fem Shep does not negatively affect you in any way, so perhaps you should reevalute your  anger"

These are precisely the kind of comments I was referring to in my statement, and precisely what FemShep fans ignore. We are not angry at Femshep, she is not real. We are angry at the emotional reactions you superimpose on others when they are in fact coming from you.

If you want more female gamers to be targeted, ask Bioware to put Femshep in adverts in magazines, TV shows and radio programs that are popular among women. Don't put it at the Spike awards where approximately 10% of the viewers are women.

I would recommend that some of the Femshep fans take a marketing class, and then make recommendations to Bioware if they want to accomplish their goals. And this isn't a men vs women argument. In fact, I would argue that the male Femshep fans are far more annoying than the female ones.

You do understand that in RPGs the main character is a representation of you? And since I am male and straight, I'd rather play as a character that I can relate to, ergo maleshep. I'm not so overloaded on imagined testosterone that everything I see (including the character I'm playing) has to be a chick. Makes me wonder if some of you are overcompensating.

Actually RPG you're supposed to be playing the role of the lead character. That doesn't mean they're supposed to be a representation of you, just that you are directly in control of their actions as the game allows it.

Because frankly nothing about either Shepard directly relates to me, and some of the choices I'd personally make aren't directly available.

And we're back to the amorphous definition of what an RPG actually is.

I've been playing games now for twenty years come May. I've played as Mario, Megaman, the dudes from the Shining Force series, Cloud, Squall,Dante and yes John Shepard and the list goes on. So while I clearly have no problem playing as a man, just like you I prefer to play as my sex. All I want is acknowlegement that FemShep exists and is just as canon as John. It's kinda of sad that Bioware can't even do that becuase they think guy gamers will not play a game just cause a girl is on the cover. Which I'm pretty sure isn't the damn case.

Tbh I always felt that femShep is the canon. MaleShep VA is too soft to be anything than a kindergardener. I could never stomach it really. Also I think femShep fits in the story much better. It actually feels to be written for a female character. But maybe that's just me because I never managed to finish a maleShep run.

I'm sorry but what you see as 'roleplaying' is flat out wrong. What you advocate can pretty much be done in any game with a protaganist and by the sounds of it what you want is the exact opposite of roleplaying.
What you want can be done with Halo, Luigi's Mansion whatever.

Edit: I do agree that Mass Effect and Dragon Age 2 are lacking when it comes to roleplaying. The game doesn't provide you with an empty shell, but neither does it provide you with a fleshed-out character. It's in the middle and I agree that this does not always work well.

Yet strangely enough we do completely agree here.
You said it perfectly.

I think some will reply to this thread thinking you're trolling or something. The reality is, Jennifer Hale is the voice actress and she's really well known in the industry, voicing a great deal of characters and capable of quite a range of voices. She won't be replaced for female Shepard any time soon.

While many swear by female Shepard's acting over the male, there's just as many cringe worthy lines delivered by female shepard as the male, especially anything flirty. I think the writing was just off in that area.

It also helps that I'm a deep voiced male similar to male Shepard's voice, so I can understand the lower toned inflections that many don't pick up on.

I just wanted to comment that it's more the voice direction than the writing though the obvious come on to Jacob wouldn't make sense if not delivered in a sort of seductive manner.  I look at how female Shepard sounded in the first game and wish we got back to that.  I think we got a piece of it with the reaction to Tali on the Alarei.  I remember thinking, "there's female Shepard".

Someone touches Jennifer Hale's contract, I'll be mad pissy ;) To be honest, I fear for the end of Shepard's trilogy here. What are the odds we'll get Hale back for another protagonist any time soon? Not high, I'm afraid. I'll miss my Hale~~ =(

Oh, and she does a great job as Dark Phoenix too ^^

Same.

I didn't mind femShep's rough 'n' tough ME2 voice, but after playing Mass Effect, I couldn't help but pine for the softer, smoother, unafraid-to-be-less-than-totally-hardcore voice direction that femShep had in the first game.

No. Jennifer Hale is the voice of Commander Shepard in ME3. If you wish to discuss ME3 VA's, please open a new thread.
