But as I just placed Merrill next to Hawke, she is 3-4 inches shorter than Hawke tops.

Admittedly, it's hard to judge the height of a character in a video game.

Regardless, whether I'm right or not, having what appears to be a foot and a half from your shoulders to the top of your head for an average sized, otherwise normally-proportioned female is a little jarring.

I always took Fenris's posture to be something akin to a loosely coiled snake. He's ready to spring into an attack stance or strike should the need arise. I don't recall any other elf who stood in this fashion - it seems to be something related to his character.
The elves don't appear sickly to me. They look different from humans, though humanoid in body structure. I suppose I still wonder why elves *need* to look beautiful and/or "normal" - whatever "normal" is. They're non-human creatures, and since this is the DA-verse, they don't necessarily have to correlate to any other universe's established model for an elf.
I always thought Fenris' posture made him look a bit bowlegged and constipated
And, for some reason, most of the male elves stand like that.

Sorry, nope. Just a human with pointy ears, not good enough.
I like my elves looking like anorexic aliens thank you very much.
I agree with that (though the "new Elves" could use a few pounds). As for the pictures, not only is she "too human" looking, but she apparently lost a fight with an opponent wielding a stapler.
I was being sarcastic. I hate the new elves.

My perfect elves would look actually more like D&D's new concept for the Tiefling or even a human skinned Draenei, without tentacles but horns. obviously that would conflict with how alien the Qunari look but hey.
Note that I would love Dwarves to look also different from short humans as well...

Maybe it's just an Elf thing.
But alas, I didn't mean to derail.

The large majority of people played a human in Origins, so to Bioware it's not worth spending resources on multiple races that only a small percentage will play.MassStorm wrote...
Actually i do not get why they are forcing us on playing human...i pick fantasy games to be what i cannot be in the reality....and then i got DA2....another human....really??? Give me back my elf protagonist like DAO...

Man, that makes me so sad, even if I can understand the logic behind it. I adored my City Elf, and my brother LOVES dwarves so I think he played a Dwarven Noble like...3 or 4 times in that game. It was really fun to explore the other cultures in Thedas.Atakuma wrote...

All of this is moot though, to make these BIG changes you'll have to explain the changes between the two different looks, like you did with the Qunari companion from DA:O.

Why should elves be superior to humans? Why should any race be superior to any other? Being perfect is boring. There is nothing saying elves in a fantasy series HAVE to be an idealised humanity.MassStorm wrote...
You seems to have trouble accepting that someone is superior to humans...in reality you will discover that even in DA dalish elves are morally superior to humans which are corrupts and evil.....god how much i miss my past Elven adventures in DAO killing every human i can.
"Superior" in one mor more trait DOES NOT EQUAL perfect.

Humans are cliche as well - can we make them with very big heads and inverted chests?
Humans in fantasy are based on actual beings. What do they call those again?
Elves aren't. And therefor cliches are less easily excused because there is no actual point of departure outside of Tolkien lore.
Fantasy is Fantasy.
If you want to limit your imagination and not include humans because they exhist somewhere simply defeats fiction.
and I'd take a nother look at elves theres a lot of variations - heck even ones that have blue fur.
I'm not saying you shouldn't mess with humans in some way, I'm just saying they aren't "cliche" in Fantasy stories because something that actually exists a certain way in reality isn't "cliche". That's like saying having round planets in your story is cliche.
Human's are just as cliche when it comes to fantasy - hence why people play something other then a human.
The misuse of the word cliche is runing wild in this thread.
People, you're overusing the word. If you don t'know what the word really means or when it should be applied, do not use it.

Fenris apparently had a unique body model which is why he doesn't look as odd as some of the other Models and Merrill's scarf and shoulder fur hides the odd look of the female elf body, too bad that's moot when she's in underwear or that silver armor.
I'd like to see the bodies and eye size scaled back a bit. I thought the Elf Update Mod by tmp7704 for DA:O actually hit the perfect balance:

The blue is DA:O's elves, the grey is DA2 and the white is the mod
Now if only I could mod DA2 with this...

Well I personally like the Elves of Dragon Age II. They are distinctive, but still HUMANOID! ( key word there "HUMAN"oid) However in the interest of this thread I will humor everybody with a minor change in appearance, nothing major. If you're going to change the elves to make them more "distinctive", then change the skin colors, like WoW or Elder Scrolls. I'm thinking about the night elves of WoW or even the colors of the Asari from Mass Effect.
All of this is moot though, to make these BIG changes you'll have to explain the changes between the two different looks, like you did with the Qunari companion from DA:O.
Color change is the worst type of "destinct" one can make...
Really, do elves HAVE to be visually different than other fantasy elves?
