Enough! I give up. My whole point was that I'm tired of reading all the hatred posts on these forums. I thought they were pretty bad when DA:O first came out. If you look back you'll see some of the very same complainers there as are here. I loved DA2, in spite of the fact that it was obviously rushed,(recycled dungeons), and some of the action was overdone, (multiplying enemies), but I've always played Bioware games for the story and the companion interaction, and I thought those elements were better than other games.

I've played Witcher 1, and Enhanced Witcher 1, and was disappointed in it for it's lack of companions, and I've played Morrowind and it's two dlc's, and Oblivion and it's dlc's and the thing I missed the most was companions, and romances. That's what I liked most in DA:O and DA2, and the other games didn't measure up in that aspect. I voted for Origins when it was out, and I've voted for DA2 because I love the game.

Dragon Age II: Poor design and writing. (Just think of the wasted potential because the game does not recognize Hawke as blood mage.) It should not win.

Dark Souls does not have a PC version. It should not win.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Good programming. Good design. It should win.

No.

I doubt you are suprised it has led here.

Hmm, is it that obvious? But yeah, a thread titled "Best RPG of 2011" could only end up taking us down that road. It's just nature.

Anything DA2 was nominated for I voted for. Not everyone hated the game. In my opinion it is RPG of the year and my Game of the Year.

It deserves to be nominated but the elder scrolls don't lose RPG of the year awards, or GOTY awards. Just kinda how it is when one comes out.

Yep, RPG for the masses.

Skyrim is better than DA2 as far as the overall experience goes. DA2 has the advantage when it comes to companion interaction, but Bethesda is adding more to each game and is simply a better game and better RPG.

Adding? Lol, they've been removing features each installment.

That's not helpful.

I was referring to companions. There is a bit more depth this time around. Removine Spear, Throwing Weapons, etc, etc, etc as skills was a good move. Removing the classes was a good move. Sometimes less is more. Improved combat dynamics. The world is more expansive and the art is more detailed. The dragons (pre-latest patch) were an excellent addition, hopefully the next patch fixes it. You can do anything you want. You can go anywhere you want. You can kill anyone you want. The quests range from downright evil to downright comical.

Skyrim is a better RPG than DA2. This isn't "DA2 SUKS!" hate. It had some good things I enjoy: Merrill and the new tactics system. Oh and I loved a comical FemHawke. But that's what DA2 became for me, a comedy sprinkled with melodramatic angst. The restrictions on the actual game made it a less and less enjoyable experience each time I played. And yes, I've beaten it 9 times.

I didn't think DA2 was terrible, but I can't help but feel that it was nominated only for the reason that it was made by Bioware, and it had the name Dragon Age slapped on it. If the exact game was made by activision or konami, i seriously doubt it would get a nod.

The lack of NPC depth and interaction is the only thing that stood out as really missing (for me) in Skyrim. They built this sprawling, gorgeous gameworld, but it feels hollow compared to DA. There's no npc that makes me strongly one way or the other.

That said, Skyrim is far and away the more ambitious game compared to DA2 and deserves to win, no question. I'm blown away by the staggering weight of content in this game. But at the same time it's a game I feel I need only play once.

and that's fine.

some don't see it, but Bethesda Games are designe for long periods of Playability, Not Re-Playability, because their games lack choice and branching situations(which almost trivializes replayability beyond the usual "i wanna play everything i just did again!" thing), and their in game cinematic-esque situations get boring quickly.

Yeah, I refuse to play Skyrim again.

Again being for another playthrough.

Why?

Because I want to do absolutely goddamned everything in THIS playthrough.

The game is huge, beautiful, diverse, and I friggen love it.

All things I wished DA2 was, but isn't.

Now, that doesn't mean DA2 was the worst game of all time or anything. Hell, even I can find SOME enjoyment out of it.

But as a sequel to DAO, what the hell.

That "what the hell" reaction is why it shouldn't of even been nominated for anything.

Hopefully Bioware and EA learns from this.

Skyrim took time to create, it was not attempting to do something crazy and innovative, and guess what?

It was bought a ridiculous amount of times, has very high critical acclaim, and has a ton of people from all walks of life talking about it, referencing it, and spreading around "I did such and such but took an arrow to the knee" memes.

As far as DA2 is concerned, I leave you with this DA2 meme-

Anders is a terrorist.

Skyrim and DA:2 are two different types of RPGs. SKyrim is an open world RPG and as beautiful at it is, the voice acting is weak and story is weak as well

It has its strengths and merits.

And as for Anders being a terrorist...I could care less.

*Sigh* Let me go get my fanboy hat...

This is a really ridiculous complaint. Skyrim is a game with -easily- a hundred hours of content, and that estimate is more conservative than Fox News. Who cares if they cut spears and the pointless stat bloat? The game still has more playtime than anything any other major studio has released in nearly a decade (not counting MMOs or Minecraft).

The world is huge, beautiful, and an improvement on Oblivion in every meaningful way. The leveling system is an example of streamlining done right (as opposed to Dragon Age 2, which is streamlining gone horribly, horribly awry), and fixes the ridiculously poor design of Oblivion's leveling system. The humans have faces that actually look human, unlike Oblivion's army of circus freaks.

Oh... and Bethesda is polite enough to release their Creation Kit to the fans, so they can mod using the same tools the developers had.

Dragon Age II was a huge, huge step up from it's prequel. Skyrim, as good as it is, is only a stepping stone in Bethesda recovering their Morrowind glory, after the disaster that was oblivion (Disaster by Bethesda standards mind you.)
So yeah - I'd have actually voted for DA2. Then MotA happened, so I hope Skyrim enjoys it's price.

As for Skyrim, I don't think its story was weak or its voice acting as well.

Its VA wasn't as good as Bioware titles, that's for sure, but it wasn't bad. I still think it was quite good.

And as for story, I found it much better than DA2's. Not as good as the ME games or DAO, but better than DA2 for sure.

That helps it(Skyrim) towards being the best RPG of the year.

DA2? Too much brought it down. And I'm going to keep bringing it up because I KNOW Bioware has a wonderful connection to its fans, detractors, and overall playerbase.

They'll hear us if we tell them how we feel. And if I think DA2 didn't deserve a single accolade at the VGA's this year, I want them to know that.

But they already know why. I think people have already stressed the point that a lot of folks found DA2 to be substandard, not just on its own, but as a Bioware title.

I don't consider Deus Ex games to be RPGs Posted Image

same reason I don't consider Witcher games to be RPGs.

aaaand Legend of Zelda neither.

Maybe I'll go over to the Square Enix forums and praise DA2, I wonder what  reaction I'd get?

Terrible analogy, since no one here is discussing Final Fantasy.

Instead, how about you go to Bethesda's forums and  praise DA2.    You sure as hell  wouldn't be the first,  and you probably won't be the last.  And for the 1 millionth time,  most gamers don't  corral themselves  into only discussing  ONE game on ONE forum.

And you're not a moderator anyway, so telling us Skyrim  praisers to "leave" is nothing but  a sign of pointless frustration on your part, and you know it.  Request Denied.

Thank you.  Good day.

PS:   Skyrim Game of the Year?  At Least.  Right now I'm debating whether or not Skyrim deserves the title of Best Game EVER.   And Dragon Age 2?  I'd rank it as the worst gaming purchase I've made since  Liesure Suit Larry 3.

Actually, did Dragon Age 2 win ANYTHING!?

I believe Bioware only won VGA awards thru Mass Effect 3.
