And Dragon Age 2?  I'd rank it as the worst gaming purchase I've made since  Liesure Suit Larry 3.

Was Larry 3 the one where Passionate Patty *spoiler heheh* had to put coconuts in her bra and whirl it around her head like a sling to kill a wild boar. That game should have won every award possible.

Edit: Oh typical. Now this is the top post and people are gunna read it. Fine, I'll be on topic.

Thought DA2 was a great game. Do not think it deserved best RPG of 2011. Could see it being better suited to a different, and more creative category, like best dialogue, best lore, hottest qunari or something like that.

But seriously, I couldn't even watch these awards this year. I tried because I wanted to learn about the new Bio-game but ... well. Not my cup of tea, if you will.

Yes, actually. Leisure Suit Larry 3: Passionate Patti in Pursuit of the Pulsating Pectorals. I rather enjoyed that game, but then again I was maybe nine and the forbidden nature of the product might have influenced me.

Dunno, but its pretty stupid that it got left out and DA2 got included.

I imagine TW2 didn't make the cut because its not exactly the most well known game to the mass amount of gamers out there, and CD Projekt Red ESPECIALLY isn't that well known.

Lets be honest though, the VGA's are just a popularity contest.

Skyrim and DA:2 are two different types of RPGs. SKyrim is an open world RPG and as beautiful at it is, the voice acting is weak and story is weak as well

Nope, gotta disagree here.  Having finished the main quest and civil war quest line, I think they easily beat  DA2 story wise.  The voice acting is a little repetitive, but quality is just as high as Bioware's.

I haven't completed any of the guild quest lines but so far I'm impressed on those from a writing standpoint, too.

Skyrim blows DA2 out of the water by any measure.  They shouldn't even be considered together.  Origins could compete, but that's old news now.  Skyrim deserves its win and DA2 deserves merciful obscurity.

Agreed. I have a tough time deciding what I took more enjoyment out of between Skyrim and DAO, but DA2 is waaaaay behind the two. Far enough that I can say what I've previously said about it.

Considering how much I enjoyed playing Skyrim, I think this is well deserved. It looks like I am not the only one. More than 7 million copies also shows that RPGs being a niche market is a myth - even with a silent PC. ;)

Thirded

i enjoyed(and still do) DAO and Skyrim immensely, and while from an objective measure i think Skyrim is the better game(simply because i think it's overall the better package and value), i Don't NEED to prefer one, i loved both and that's what i care, but i didn't enjoyed DA2 and i the day i put them in the same and category as DAO and Skyrim(and since it's been mentioned before, The Witcher 2), shall be the day i:

cut my bollocks off and eat them. ../../../images/forum/emoticons/lol.png

with a few additions this could be my new motto. lol.

EDIT: Dammit.:pinched:

In other words, the question they answer is:  "which one was our favorite?"

Yeah.  I thought that went without saying.  It'd certainly be odd to see    a sales-flopping game that no one liked get  "game of the year", wouldn't it.  Because that would be silly.    The Oscars try to do that every  once in a while.  And the only  thing they ever get out of that  is negative controversy.

I absolutly love DA2. It has some great assets to it, and some bad ones. I must agree it does not really deserve the award though. I´d still vote for it though.

CDProjekt didn't slip money into spikes back pocket. TW2 has issues, but still best RPG of the year IMO.

Bethesda games are dull from lack of character development. Only studio that can make high fantasy, or the apocolypse of earth, boring.

Voted for DA2. At first it was out of pity.

I later realized that, not only did I play it more, but I enjoyed it immensly without even realizing it. Just finished my 3rd playthrough and I'm now certain this game has brought me more enjoyment than any other title this year.

And no. I am not a Bioware employee. Please stop asking.

Rotfl. Tw2 wasn't nominated in a single category (best rpg, best graphics, best adaptation, best action rpg) I don't think it should win but at least being nominated in a single category would have been fair. This thing is really crap!

On the one hand, I look forward to the year a DA game overwhelming deserves such an award. Definitely not this year.

On the otherhand, this is the Spike VGAs. Lol.

I believe Bioware only won VGA awards thru Mass Effect 3.

Nope. Dragon Age 2 was last.

Amusing, eh?

Dragon Age 2 even being mentioned in the same company as Dark Souls, Deus Ex and Skyrim just shows how stupid the Spike awards are.

Loved DA2, but Skyrim was better. Deus Ex was good, The Witcher 2 sucked.

Whether or not you liked TW2 doesn't matter, the sheer quality of the game tramples  DA2 and rivals Skyrim, it's a shame the VGA's aren't actually a legitimate award ceremony.
