At first, he just looks like a douchebag with his cool hawk and big muscles, but then I realized: James Vega is BioWare's attempt at combining what will appeal to their new players, GOW and COD-loving dudebros, and the nostalgia of a Donkey Kong Gameboy game. That's right. Vega's favorite things are Mountain Dew, Madden NFL 2185, and being shot out of a barrel into a trail of bananas.

But in seriousness, this is one of the aspects of a more realistic aesthetic approach in video games that developers should be wary of; characters being funny-looking or reminding the player of an idiot they know in real life. It's a small possibility, but it's an off-putting, if still hilarious, issue to run into. I wouldn't say any other approach fits Mass Effect more, though.

I think it's good that he isn't a threadthin supermodel.

He has no Derp face, if you want a Derp face play GoW3 and take a good look at Cole when you enter the store.

The title mentions a character, but the topic, if you read it, is about aesthetic style of the game.

Has any male in the Mass Effect universe ever been a thread-thin supermodel?

Still can't believe this guy is ME3's male lead.

Hell, it gets even worse: we don't get a new female one this time...

You just noticed that? I think he looks like a douche bag and meat head myself. I'm also pretty sure he was brought i to appeal to casuals and the GOW COD crowd... But I will reserve judgement until "I play the game. Hopefully his personality has some substance to it.

He's focustesting the character. He's got steroid induced muscles, a Soap Mactavish mohawk and a neck tattoo.

I've played COD. I play GoW. I still think he looks like a tool in that picture.

Well technically we kinda get new female characters but I dont see why we need a new female lead when key characters like Liara, Ashley, and Tali is playing a bigger role.

Well, every human male squadmate but Zaeed + Thane is.

Even Commander Shepard's Default face is based on a supermodel.

I'm always interested in how characters will pan out in-game once I see them, but BioWare has a way about making the macho guy the same as the other macho guy from the last game.

So main characters are good-looking. What's new? I was more focused on the threadthin part. I know Kaidan is supposed to be a total hunk, and I even think Vega is supposed to be a hot guy, kind of.

Is Mass Effect 3 the first Mass Effect you'll have ever played?

Brilliant plan! Except I wasn't judging him, I was having fun with his absurdly flat facial expression.

But, is ANYONE going to actually talk about that whole aesthetic style thing I mentioned...or?

I'm not necessarily sure who you're counting as "Macho", but I can't see this.  Was Jacob the same as Sten or Black Whirlwind?
