Very interesting topic.

I have to agree that I don't mind paying for digital content at all, in fact, its non-digital content that I have issue with. I find the idea of having to go to a geeky computer store and hope that they have a copy of the game that I want to play too big of a hassle, I'm much more likely to hit pirate bay and get the game then drive down to a store.  Mind you its not that I don't have money, I have lots of it and I love spending it,  but Im a full time dad, husband, and employee and that's just the begining of my insane schedule.  When I want to buy a game that **** better be available online as a digital purchase and the process of buying it better be easy as hell or otherwise I will be on pirate bay so fast it will make your head spin.

I believe very strongly that the only reason piracy exists is that people are lazy and game producers are idiots when it comes to providing good platforms for buying their products.  You have to be retarted to release a game and not have a digital purchase available on your website on release day.  Its like begging the public to pirate the game.  So releasing additional content as a digital download... that's an easy sell.

Platforms like Steam, spotiffy and CD On are the future of digital media, anyone not keeping up is screwed.

Could go with Xfire's example:

http://www.xfire.com...ld_of_Warcraft/

As of me writing this, there were 56,705 Xfire users playing per day.
There were also a total of 17,779,275 minutes played total, per day by all of them combined.

That is 296321.25 hours total.  Or, if you average it out, roughly 5.2 hours per player today.    Yes, it was a weekend, but I don't imagine it changes all that much over the week.

I would be shocked as all hell to find out that's a legitimate center of the spread.

There's no way most normal players(IE, excluding gold farmers and bots and the like) play that often, pure and simple.  People have lives, after all, and to say that the average individual can devot 2 hours a day, 365 days a year to that single game is ludicrous, pure and simple.

Well, the average mmo player can. Apparently the average playtime per day is 3 hours even.

Wow, they don't offer a lot of information...

How'd they get their subjects(I have a few thouhgts, not of them good for it's reliability)?  Did they monitor use, or simply ask?  Did they exclude some games or players from their operational definitions?  Is this article peer-reviewed?

You can't actually take studies on face value like that, you HAVE to go deeper.  But it's too easy for that to be screwed up, from it's sampling alone, to consider it in any way reliable.

Ya I would suspect with a new game and a weekend that 5 hours on average is more then believable. Usually after I purchase a new game even with my tight schedule i stay up late to play it instinctivly.

After completing my first "good guy" run I was catching up on laundry, fixing the spare bathroom sink, and polishing off a few other "honey do's".  All the while thinking what I would try for a second "bad guy" run.

The game was a blast.  I enjoyed it completely and would like to say thanks to the Devs.

Like others I paid for all the DL content that basically amounted to 3-4 hours of extras, at most, and thats being a bit generous.  That cost me another $17 approx (IIRC).

Now unlike others here I am not upset.  I knew what I was getting into.  I checked the forums for info and am not in any way "mad as hell!!".

What I am going to do though is start voting with my wallet, because after thinking about it a bit, there is a reason people are upset about the DLC prices, and it has more to do with making smart choices and sending a message, than it has to do with how much I enjoy the game.

$5 or more dollars for content that will amount to another hour of playtime is not acceptable (refering to the upcoming DLC of course).  I can go see a movie for more per hour entertainment value.  When you can get more out of your dollar at a movie theatre than a video game, something is wrong.

I dont think I can put it more bluntly than that.

There is a fine line between making a profit, and squeezing every dime out of me because I love this game.  I make a good living, I can afford the $$.  This has nothing to do with do I want it, can I afford it, and will I enjoy it.  It has everything to do with the value for the dollar.

Everyone has their opinion, this is mine.  We have shelved the game until such time as any new DLC is reasonably packaged in a discount bundle that makes sense.  Thank you Bioware for a great game.  Our family hopes to be playing again soon.

I don't see paying for dlc as a problem, as long as it fits in/expands smoothly with the storyline.

ppl complain too much.

What makes your opinion so much more important than others that you think you have the right to dictate whether people's opinions are right or not?

Just because you think it's alright to have a damn DLC advertisement character in your camp doesn't mean the rest of us enjoy that very much.

I don't understand why there is an uproar about having to pay for DLC. I'm not a developer, but I work in a consulting company where work is done on a project by project basis. I can tell you now that the minute you start doing projects for free is the minute you start having to lay off your employees. I suspect that within a few months the community will start to churn out quality free content and certainly within a year, it will probably eclipse that which Bioware is putting out. Now, that said, I did kind of wince my first night spent in camp during the game when a quest-giver tried to sell me Warden's Keep, lol.

You just dictated again. You aren't stating your opinion, you're forcing your opinion on to others. Why should I ignore the ad? Maybe you're fine with it but I'm not.

Who needs growing up? A person trying to be a smartass with a "yawn this thread is still going on" or a person who dislikes advertisements in their game?

Stop trying to act like you're the mature one here, all you've done is ****** people off, nothing more.

I am a hc gamer and I loved every Bioware. The DLC thats out atm gives awesome stuff for use in the rest of the game. Despite teh costs I will be getting the rest of the dlc. This game has given me a lot of enjoyment. DLC only adds to it.

I have to disagree here. Your getting an "hour of entertainment value" that is replayable at least 8 times for each background. Try paying for a movie in the theater once and then going in and seeing it 8 times.

Every new character you create is going to be run through this $5 hour, if only just for the extra experience points it provides.

I hate to admit it after I made such a big stink before, but I have changed my mind about the DLC. I was late to the party, so to speak, and didn't realize that it is all post-launch content (and quite a bit of it for a game that is less than two months old!) and that the game itself is absolutely massive. Also, after having played the DLC quest that came with the purchase of the pc version in which you find the npc "Shale," I found that it was very fun and quite rewarding. It was one of the more engrossing and satisfying missions I've done in the game so far.

My only request would be to abandon the whole "money for points" system and just build DLC packages that can be purchased directly. Like $15 per "expansion" or $45 for all 4, which makes it a better value. Something like that.
