should i unpatch the game for my rogue playthrough or no?
And should I go assassin/shadow or assassin/duelist?
Idk what the patch changed, but shadow looks like it'd be more punishing.
I am thinking about going hawke/anders/isabella/varric, because the banter would be amazing.
DW rogue playthough - should i unpatch?

Patch notes.
If you're playing on pc you can just not install them. If you're on console you already know the drill with game patches.

depends. how do you define 'badass'?
do you like getting knocked down all the time? the patch removed most of the knockback issues (which particularly affected DW rogues) and just generally made the game a lot easier. (shadow gives a potential total of +100% critical damage rather than just +50%, lacerate deals double damage, etc)
so for the 'easiest' facewiping i would say that post-patch is the way to go. pre-patch is definitely a lot more challenging (though perfectly viable still)
however, the patch also put a damage cap and reduced assassinate's beautiful numbers.
so if you're looking for the biggest baddest numbers you'll probably need to go prepatch.

DW rogue is god mode post patch. If you want DA2 to be challenging, then yes unpatch.

really? I thought rogues were BETTER pre-patch because assassinate was nerfed and whatnot
Plus the damage cap

you don't need assassinate when you are:
shadow/assassin
hasted up
obscured
with speed activated
with the right stats and gear
hitting for absolutely ridiculous numbers on every autoattack
and that is ALL you need to do. set a bot to keep obscure up indefinitely and just autoattack your face off. that's what the optimal rogue play has devolved into. you'll definitely tear **** up, but it's boring as all hell
terrible patch is/was/always will be terrible

True, but that's how I played my DW Rogue pre-patch so I don't feel guilty.AreleX wrote...

Anyway, Twin Fangs/Decoy/Mark of Death are still very, very powerful. You should probably use all your Stamina on those three talents, plus an occasional Stealth every now and then.
But yeah, if you like using a lot of different flashy abilities, the only choice now is to play Mage.

Eh, I love Duelist. Vendetta is too much fun and I fell like a pretty nice tank with all the enhancements.
Rogue play is really just stupidly fun. I'll see if mage and warrior can be as fun. The warrior from seeing my cousin play seemed more capable of stunning frequently and shrugging off knockback/damage. Better at handling groups of foes through good AoE damage. Mages seem similar except with mass CC/support in exchange for the warrior's tanking ability.
Strangely attracted to the Reaver and Blood Mage, though I can't find any guides for the warrior and mage classes that discuss the class instead of just giving you a point dump diagram with little comment on the why and how it works relative to other options. I was also sad my mage didn't have any spell like the trailer one where the Arishok is torn in two. Blood mage spec seemed more than anything as a debuffer/mana pool increase spec rather than a source of more offensive spells like Force Mage.
