Except for Feng vs Shepard, in which case you are correct, I would say Mass Effect actually rates pretty well with the character development when you compare between the party characters.

Either way, yeah. I didn't really mean it like I was putting Xenogears on a pedastal so much higher than Mass Effect. I was just bringing up two separate approaches to character development from two very different games I happen to love -- two games Skyrim really can't compare with in that regard.

I'm with Jeff here, Skyrim is a GREAT game but guys don't kid yourselves it's VERY weak regarding to characters, the day Bethesda hires good writers and embraces cinematics we'll compare their games to XG and ME.

Good, me too. In fact, I've been staying away from BSN in general but for a few posts a week lately. I'm sure my will will mostly shatter around the end of January or so, but I'll still try to avoid spoilers even then.

That one's pretty love-it-or-hate it. The story arcs pay off pretty well by the end of 4, but I really couldn't stand Rose. On replays I tend to skip her dialogue... and she's the only video game character I'll do that for. I only tend to play games over again that I enjoyed the stories/characters for, so that's saying something that I'd withstand skipping most of her lines just to replay the whole series.

Kojima is freaking crazy though; I can't blame you for losing it after the first 3D game in the series. MGS1 was much simpler and probably better for it. 2's the weak link in that chain.

It wasn't the gameplay it was the story. 2 was such an anticlimax. I felt like I'd played the whole game for no reason. That and I hated Raiden's pretty boy guts.

Oh, ugh, uh, er, I just read the leak. Platinum Games is handling it. So that was a true rumor after all.

Yeah, the gameplay was fine. I didn't mean to imply otherwise. Rose was a story-related concern.

I didn't really dislike the rest of it though, so /shrug.

Yeah, and Kojima Productions isn't even helming it. They actually went and gave it to Platinum Games, who I know has a huge following but I mainly play games with decent stories and they're so over-the-top they ought to be making even Kojima himself blush.

I think Hideo's my limit in that category.
