Podcast is in german (sorry about that), but we translated all the important parts and posted them on our site, which you can read here.
Podcast in german + Summary in german
English summary
small excerpt
UF: Since the information for the game has been released, alot of players are worried about the 'downloadable content', especially about the factions and units part.
EA_CIRE pointed out that the game is designed to be highly attractive over a long time and that there will be more content coming after time. But balance is a central point for the team and they will focus on avoiding imbalances. One thing they are looking at are the DotA-clones with their ingame stores as good DLC examples. And not everything will have to be payed for, as there will be free additional content as well.
UF: Will the EU-Faction be the European Union or some kind of 'Eurasian Unity League', as depicted in the Zero Hour storyline?
EA_CIRE said we should take a close look at the tank, especially the sign on the track. It would be very similar to a symbol in real life, either an organization or a confederation. (EU probably means European Union then)
Again big thanks to EA_CIRE and we hope you, the fans, do enjoy it as much as we did.

EA owns it. They are the parent company to both DICE and BioWare.slimgrin wrote...
So who actually owns the Frostbite 2 engine? It was made by DICE right? And yet this other dev is using it.

I just found that the director of this game is Jon Van Caneghem who is known for Might and Magic Series and Heroes of Might and Magic series which makes this game more intriguing for me.

Really... But Heroes of Might and Magic is turn based and is an RPG, I doubt this command and conquer game is.
And Steven Speilberg did Jaws and then E.T.; your point?

That movies can't be compared to games.

If you haven't played the classic c&c games you missed out, but it's never too late. They were fantastic games rivaled only by Blizzard's games and Total Annihilation.
Definitely. The original Command and Conquer (the Gold edition is freeware now) and Red Alert are among my favorites. Even though by todays standards their balance and graphics would be considered **** I love them nonetheless.

My point was that it is pretty lame (and rather insulting) to imply that someone can't direct different projects.

I may be biased, but I'm looking forward to this game a lot. I've been a fan of Jon van Caneghem since the Might and Magic II days, and his was one of the first game developer names I really recognized. I've never played the Command and Conquer series, but now that the new one is falling under the BioWare label, I will definitely give it a shot.
You have given me a quite heart attack Mr.Woo, havent you played first games of the series? Command&conquer 1 and Red Alert?
You have missed a lot i think. I mean there was a lot of RTS back then (Warcraft, KKND, Dune 2, Battle Bugs etc.) but Command&Conquer gave us come "Cannon Fodder" feeling with its little soldiers and Dune feeling wih harvesters.
I got it on 13 floppy disks...

He also directed Amistad and Always *shudders* though I agree I do't understand why someone wouldn't be excited for Jon Van Caneghem. Still doesn't mean the game will be instantly successful.

I've seen attitudes all over the CNC community over this, the bulk however have said nothing at all, as if ignoring it, others have remarked "Oh same guys just a name change and someone leading them that has no idea what he's doing." And "Maybe Bioware will take us in a "New direction" Though on a couple of sites there was a luke warm reception with comments like "As long as its not like CNC4" and "Here's hoping they go back to the roots."
Also no real attempts from BW or EA have been made to court the CNC community, then again the outspoken nature of the community and how the community PR officer eventually came to side with them more led to his...uhh retirement, and the closing of the PR posting and the EA/CNC connection. Maybe they have no intention of courting the old fans in which case...well the game may tank as CNC 4 did.
Which worries me, no one knows CNC like the fans, or pytroglyph (where most member of westwood now are), most of us have stuck with the Saga from the start, and have modded and improved on these games in our community to extents that well, its like totally new games. From Rise of the Reds, vietnam glory obscured, to Mental Omega. CNC3-4 were also let downs of previous installments. EA tries to use big names and flashy buttons to turn a game type thats made up of well if your lucky a few hundred thousand players, into a massive market, not only does the mainstream ignore it, but so do the majority of fans.
Hopefully BW can influence its new sub office, and doesn't make this mistake

Hey Ken, don't forget about Red Alert 3, it wasn't as good as previous installments of Red Alert either.
True. It took the funny aspects of RA2 and took it to be the main theme, then actully dumbed the game down. I like having multiple countries in RA:2, maybe thats why its played and modded even today.

I didn't think Command and Conquer 3 was as bad as some people make it out to be. But I think after Red Alert 2 the command and Conquer franchise went downhill.
Actually i liked C&C3 a lot. Scrin race was a nice addon for the C&C series and we multplayed for a long time along with generals.
4th game (and RA3 up to a point) was a huge dissapointment for us. Nobody i known had bought the game after playing beta. Some of us "tried" it and counsel made the last decision. FAİL. And RA3 was far to shiny and really tried hard to be funny/humorous, at every step of the game, another let down.
That 2 games didnt sell well and i think (i hope) EA got the picture. And having Jon Van Caneghem,as executive producer of the game im thrilled!
Just look at the screenshots/video and watch "Orcaish" air force. This game smells like C&C.

I don't really see your points.
See for example the interview i posted above. We have a global community manager who was a very active community member and community fansite admin on one of the biggest german cnc sites. He was on the other side for a long time, sending that feedback in, trying to give the community a voice, like we all do. Now he is that voice in the development team.
In addition they opened up a 'community developer section' months ago on the official cnc board asking for feedback.
And hell no, neither the mainstream nor the fans do ignore it. The two main players, communitywise www.united-forum.de (us) and www.gamereplays.org have opened up generals2 sections which are really active and the generals2 section on the official board went throught the roof as well. In addition on german gaming magazine sites cnc generals 2 has been the top news since the announcement, generating tens of thousands of hits every day.

Se my profile for a point I'm American, the American Community which is CNCguild, Planet CNC, PPMsite, and CNC Den, have for a long time collectively had no word or relations with EA, or vise versa. After the last CNC manager was relieved by EA and we made nearlly endless ****ing of CNC4 among other mistakes.
And no, the German site is NOT the voice of the community not US at least or for general CNC modding, nor is gameplays, both are splinters in part for the Germans that buy ANY rts game period, and the other was formed during the EA buyout as alot of "fans" were ran out of the home sites. EA likes them as they cause the least trouble and "listens" to them barely.

So the fansites you liked are gone or inactive. Isn't that kinda a huge difference to the whole cnc community beeing dead?

Hardly dead the old Guard hold there own thank you. And we are very active. And also every site I listed is still up, and only CNCDen is inactive, least somewhat, CNC planet (to a lesser extent), PPM and CNCguild are all active.
And no CNC Generals Is NOT a Command and Conquer game in any sense.
It is however a good RTS that made use of the franchise name.
Its a great RTS game, has great mods, if you read back you will see I pointed out two of them. But it has far more in common with Starcraft, than it does with RA1, TS, TD, and RA:2. Still one of the better recent titles, but its not a traditional CNC title, nearlly all of the long term fans will agree with this. Given the performance of the last titles, I have no high hopes...or purchase plans for Generals 2. I'll wait and see but not really considering it, the franchise as it was died with Westwood. Maybe it will keep the same feel and controls as the former title in which case I might get it, but with the dlc talk, the brief bit of info, the team, and the studio, I'm expecting CNC4-2.
Wait....for get this...nope no way I'm getting Generals 2, from my sites we finally have info with some interviews and it seems...the game is "too complex" to ever allow or support any modding (nice speak for, we got DLC to sell Modders will be banned), and will not have a mapbuilder. We'll have to BUY new maps from EA, per Map. PPMsite is pretty much in an uproar about it. Also you'll need origins to play it. So nope CNC short of what old titles there are, is well and truely dead.
