I noticed that the trailer was using the PC version of the game which makes sense considering it looked gorgeous with a smooth framerate. Should I be concerned over whether the 360 version will choke during all the chaos of those scenes?

Mass effect 2 dips whenever biotics are flying when I play. Pc runs smooth for me, but because of origins I'm putting up with the 30 FPS from the console version. Gears 3 had smooth gameplay, but epic developed the engine, they know how to work it. ME2 was an improvement from the first, but still leggy. I'm sure that's why they're showing it on pc.

Another Mass Effect trailer, more linearity and shooting.

Don't even recognise the game as an RPG anymore, Bioware is not even pretending any more.

Not even a single shot was fired in that trailer.

You need to watch it again then.

Did anyone else notice that the massive beam weapon capable of blasting ships into flaming shells with a glancing hit, strikes a few feet away from Shep and does not even singe him?

Guess it shouldn't surprise, when they're trying to make their games "more cinematic", and in Hollywood, the same artillery shells that can crack open a tank or level a large building, are just another easy dodge for the hero...

Fine, shots were fired by the fighters and the Reaper, but not by Shepard and co.

Yeah, that was pretty stupid. All I know is, when I get to that scene, I'll make sure Shepard is wearing a helmet. That way I can say the armor protected him from the heat produced by the beam. Of course, we also have to keep in mind that the same beam hits a Kodiak shuttle and only destroys one of its engines, sending it plummeting into the ground. At the very least, we can conclude that the "crab" Reapers have weaker weapons than Sovereign's cruiser-killing red beams of death.

I’ve been reading most of these posts about the new trailer and I just want set the recorded strait for those fans who are complaining about the game becoming an action shooter and losing all of its RPG greatness.

1. No game developer; no matter who they are is going to put RPG elements into a trailer, it’s bad for business (if you want an example look at the trailers for Skyrim, none of them showed the RPG elements of the game and I’m pretty sure that we can all agree that Bethesda is still a leader when it comes to RPG games both on pc and consol)

2. If you look at the trailers for the original mass effect game (before they were taken over by EA) you will not see any RPG elements on display.

3. Criticising an enter game’s overall performance and structure by watch about ten minutes worth of footage (if you take into account all the trailers, not including the leaked demo because it was not complete) is not only unprofessional and naïve but counter productive; if you want to make a solid opinion about something first play the developers’ finished product before making such accusations.

P.S I apologise to all those who have made positive comments on this topic and have been forced to read this angry rant, but as a scientist I couldn’t stand by and read such frustrating comments from people who haven’t played the finished game and are yet passing judgment on the developers.

It wasnt very Mass Effect. More of just a dirty shooter using sci fi as a backdrop. No spaciness, no strange world, no sleek shiny technology, no emphasis on lore and characters and mysterious conversations with synth beats getting your heart rate up, no fog horn sunrise at the end. On the bright side, it is a graphical improvement. Too bad it is all shooter perspective marketing so I can't see the worlds and people and cities that capture the Mass Effect universe where it started. Just a bunch of gritty world-in-flames scenes.

Yes, because in a story about a galaxy-wide war and a super soldier at the center of it, we should absolutely expect to be roaming around various star systems Captain Kirk-style, sipping strange ales with various alien species and chatting up the local babes.

Honestly, what is wrong with people?

Considering how outdated Xbox 360 is nowadays, it will certainly dip below 30 fps from time to time. As far as I know ME2 does that too.

Have you played Gears of War 3? [smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/tongue.png[/smilie]

No I haven't, I'm a PC gamer myself through and through. I'm not worried at all about how it will run. Mass Effect 2 is v-sync limited* at the moment with everything maxed and beyond combined with antialiasing.

*60 frames per second @ 1080p in other words. Monitor could do 75Hz but I'm not entirely sure if it skips frames...

One thing about the trailer, the lack of jaggies gives me some hope that they included antialiasing options in game rather than forcing it through Nvidia CP.

This doesn't make any sense. First, Shepard didn't fire a weapon. Second, please show me the RPGs you play where I can't take 30 or 40 seconds of game footage and show a battle that doesn't include you switching to your favorite armor and digging through your inventory. You really think that crap should be in the TRAILER?

How do you know whether any game is "linear" or not by seeing a minute of it? How do you have any idea how Shepard and the other characters got to that particular point in the game?

Honestly, the story about a galaxy at war. Why people seem to want a game that allows them to just ignore all that and roam around planets for loot is beyond me.

This trailer says that ME3 has gone full shooter, and it makes me sad. The original soul of ME is lost for good. ME1 was a RPG with shooter elements. ME2 was a hybrid shooter/cinematic RPG. Here, from what they've shown, they are advertising an over-the-top Gears of War killer shooter with RPG elements. But we'll see if the final product is true to its marketing. I sincerely hope not.

At least, let's hope the story will be satisfying with proper closure for each character.

Why am I not surprised by this post being full of bollocks then?

Let me guess, The Witcher isn't "cool" among some ME fans?

I hate The Witcher, and all I've seen of it was the "romance" scene.

So it's more like blinded hate.

Hmmm, pretty silly stuff to be bagging on The Witcher 2 here, if you ask me. And really ironic that it appears on the same thread where people meet an action-packed TRAILER with complaints that there weren't enough "RPG elements" in it. The Witcher 2 has a lot of issues but lack of RPG elements ain't one of 'em.

My thoughts exactly. Everything I've seen so far from this game has been unimpressive. This wasn't the case for ME1&2, at least for me. Makes me wonder if this will be the best in the trilogy, or turn into a blunder like Gears 3.

Good trailer imo, I don't really get that much from watching trailers. They don't tell me if games is going to be good or bad or 100% action or RPG. Previews and reviews are for that. Trailers are there just to remind me that "hey this game is coming".

I hope your'e right.

So far ME2 trailers have not shown enough of what we've been hearing ME3 is going to be like.

They're awesome and make fantastic visual stimulation - but there is only so far explosions and action go before interest starts trickling away.

Once again I learn that I should never be amazed at what the BSN will b**** about. For those of you who are so disappointed with this trailer, what exactly could they have shown that would've made you happy? Keeping in mind that 1) this is a game about the galaxy-wide war that the entire series has been building up to and 2) it was for mass-consumption, not the relatively tiny cadre of RPG heads who, apparently, would rather spend this war for their survival roaming around to random planets and chatting up strangers.

Your team shooting the other people together, working as an actual team would be nice start. Given it's like you say, a game about the war that the entire series has been building up to.

To be honest that is freaking hilarious. A weapon that can wipe out military warships easily are likely using some pretty high yield weaponry. Regular personel armor won't protect from even a glancing blow. Its likely that due to the Thanix cannon design (which it uses a magnetic field to direct liquid metal) it won't cause some residual hit damage on a large area . Remember in ME1Sovereigns weapon went straight through Alliance warships literally like butter. Even in gameplay you can see that small Reaper simply core those shuttles. Only residual explosions due to the damage caused a large area of effect explosion.

Also realism in a game that has a magic element able to let people go faster than light speeds by manipulating mass shouldn't be at the top of most expected. ME1 ME2 and ME3 had moments that seemed pretty off realism wise (ME2 more).

Umm... a detailed walkthrough of the game showcasing some of the new features? BioWare could have released something like that by now. Maybe not at the VGA's, but before or after. It would be a whole lot better than yet ANOTHER generic action sequence.

Really? That's why it sucked? OK then -- what you want is what you want. Were you happy then with the "squad leader" trailer?

Considering Gears 3 is one of the more popular shooters this year and has been widely acclaimed as a great game I doubt that was a blunder. If  ME3 turns out to be as successful as Gears 3 then I serously doubt they failed.
