It wasnt very Mass Effect. More of just a dirty shooter using sci fi as a backdrop. No spaciness, no strange world, no sleek shiny technology, no emphasis on lore and characters and mysterious conversations with synth beats getting your heart rate up, no fog horn sunrise at the end. On the bright side, it is a graphical improvement. Too bad it is all shooter perspective marketing so I can't see the worlds and people and cities that capture the Mass Effect universe where it started. Just a bunch of gritty world-in-flames scenes.

Yes, because in a story about a galaxy-wide war and a super soldier at the center of it, we should absolutely expect to be roaming around various star systems Captain Kirk-style, sipping strange ales with various alien species and chatting up the local babes.

Honestly, what is wrong with people?

Oh, silly me. Didn't realize this was going to be Mass Effect minus the exploration and conversations across the galaxy in exchange for a soldier in constant shootouts a la a SHOOTER.

Mass Effect 3 is more than always feeling like you are on a battlefield. You are off if you think we won't see places that aren't being shot up constantly or that each planet will be hit by a Reaper each time you visit. Stop acting like the war has turned every bit of gameplay rightfully into a battlezone mission. There is more to Mass Effect than this war. There are still strange worlds and aliens to meet, and maybe you will still gather information while sipping strange ales. Mass Effect is not a sprint from one battle to the next. If that is how it would work, than the threats in ME1 and ME2 would have required the same nonstop pace from Shepard to save lives.

wow. the negativity from a trailer is ridiculous. I seem to remember everyone flipping a sh!t when they gave out too much info in their trailers and info when ME2 came out. Now you guys are flipping a sh!t when they are only showing action to try and save the RPG and story elements a surprise until release. There is no pleasing some of you I swear

Why does the Reaper not even make a dent?

Playing ME3 is going to be like watching a movie. Everything is very... well animated.

I'm thinking, RL has even superior 3D graphics. How is ME3 planning to compete with that?

BioWare is going to the extremes. Either overboard on spoiler clips or overboard on action gameplay. Great trailers give both. ME3 has both. They need to show it off like great trailers for games and movies do. Lord of the Rings, Rockstar games, Casino Royale. They all have great mixes of action and story in pre-release trailers, despite the content not being accessible to you until release.

ME3 is not marketing as good as any of those.

And in a marketing perspective, it worked...  Just look at how ME3 won most anticipated in arenas like the E3 and VGA. Complain all you want about it but the results are undeniable.

"What's this moar tards are liking MY games! NOOOO!! RUINED forever!"

If ME3 turns out to be linearfest where it's shootfest after another than I'll join you all in kicking Bioware but not until we know more.

Are we HONESTLY trusting EA's marketing? Wow, what's with the sudden change of tune in treating EA's marketing as the Word of Truth when we should know better? :?

People are getting ****y about free of charge trailers that no one asked them to see. Not the game, the trailers! Mind blowing. This doesn't even rank on "1st world problems".

I looked at the game that won Game of the Year at the VGA's. No rpg mode in that game, and ME3 won't touch the sales numbers it got, either. Maybe BioWare should take heed.

Gamers of a younger age tend to forget what gaming is all about, which is a form of entertainment and luxury. It's not something you are entitled to, nor is it something you need to survive.

This is why I refused to vote for it as Most Anticipated game. It's a measure of advertising and hype that is only usful to businesses and falsly gives the studio an inflated ego when I'd much rather them be humble.

I'm excited about ME3, but I'd rather it won GOTY because it was great than Biggest Disappointment because it had won Most Anticipated then failed to live up to the hype.

Too bad that I don't care about Lamerim at all.

Ohh, it won something at VGA. Congrats. It's not special because of it.

Modern Warfare 3 is one of the best selling games of all time. No real conversations or choices in that game. Maybe Bioware should take heed.

Because it don't have gunzzzz!!!!!!!!!!!! It's not special because it won anything, its special because of what it is. There is no denying the unanimous rave reviews from every single media source.

ME3 won't get near CoD sales, because as I have said, it won't even get close to Skyrim sales ;).

No, because I can't care less about another fantasy RPG.

You're being quite pathetic if you think that guns is all it takes to win me over when it comes to an RPG, as you're just the generic "Whaaa, they're appealing to CoD fans" whiner, even if it clearly shows that you have no idea of what the **** you're talking about.

I wouldn't try to go after that market if Mass Effect were my baby in my hands. I just think it is ambition of sales over the love of the project.

Yeah, that was pretty stupid. All I know is, when I get to that scene, I'll make sure Shepard is wearing a helmet. That way I can say the armor protected him from the heat produced by the beam. Of course, we also have to keep in mind that the same beam hits a Kodiak shuttle and only destroys one of its engines, sending it plummeting into the ground. At the very least, we can conclude that the "crab" Reapers have weaker weapons than Sovereign's cruiser-killing red beams of death.

To be honest that is freaking hilarious. A weapon that can wipe out military warships easily are likely using some pretty high yield weaponry. Regular personel armor won't protect from even a glancing blow. Its likely that due to the Thanix cannon design (which it uses a magnetic field to direct liquid metal) it won't cause some residual hit damage on a large area . Remember in ME1Sovereigns weapon went straight through Alliance warships literally like butter. Even in gameplay you can see that small Reaper simply core those shuttles. Only residual explosions due to the damage caused a large area of effect explosion.

Also realism in a game that has a magic element able to let people go faster than light speeds by manipulating mass shouldn't be at the top of most expected. ME1 ME2 and ME3 had moments that seemed pretty off realism wise (ME2 more).

So once a setting has any speculative element, the doors are wide open to magic, unicorns, and whatever the eff else strikes the whims of writers and fans alike?

Gah, I hate that.

As for the beam weapon, it strikes the ground right next to Shep... the vaporizing concrete would likely cause severe injury to anyone nearby, from shockwave, thermal effect, and flying debris.

It might be a bit presumptious of me to assume so, but since you are a fan of Mass Effect im guessing you are a fan or RPGs as well.  What is it about Skyrim that you dont like?  I really cant imagine any fans of RPGs to not like a game like Skyrim

I will agree that the trailers have shown little to no story elements or RPG elements. But I think they are saving that for the eventual release of the Cinematic trailer, Fem shep trailer, and Launch trailer. I think the marketing is clever (no matter how annoying to fans) it shows tiny epic parts that are just enough to get us excited all over again and I think they are succeeding with that. at least for me. Bioware you c**kteases haha

I am aware. But EA has aims to take  chunks out of the biggest market, being shooters, and ME3 ads reflect that. I am saying they are paying attention to Call of Duty sales and I personally wouldn't.
