I know this is probably the wrong place to ask, but did anyone say why Garrus has new armor beyond the "I had nice blue armor.....but then I took a rocket to the chest/face"? I'm also interested to see if any sand effects will be involved or if it will be just a basic sandstorm type filter thingy during that level.

Regarding Garrus, it's "new game, new look." Popular characters get a redesign, and it may or may not be incorporated into the story. We don't know any in-lore explanations as of yet. Maybe he got tired of wearing the same armor for months straight? :P

And what do you mean by sand effects?

EDIT: I'm almost impressed, you actually read it! Now, tell me, how did you NOT get "linear" from the script?

Because I actually know what the word "linear" implies (free tip: it means that you're bound to a beaten path) and the fact that I compared it to ME1, which didn't make it that linear at all.

You see, there's a difference between reading it and understanding it.

For example. When you've done a certain mission, a side mission might show up that is based on the main mission. You can either do that mission or skip it and see how it plays out in the main mission after that if a certain person died or is absent from that main mission and how it'll affect the outcome of the conflict as a whole.

That alone makes it nonlinear, because then it's branching off into other possible paths.

No, you're wrong.

Ahhh maybe it's trying to incorperate classic with the DLC armor.  That is silvery stuff right?  And by sand effects (also snow, because hey it's just white sand lol) I mean that when you stand in it it will show your indent of foot or whatever.  Something similar to how Uncharted 3 did with sand.  Granted it won't nearly be cool but a touch like that would be nice right?

It's boring to see your hot-air leg-humper arguments all the time, too.

The fact that you say that by having read the script that ME3 is less linear and provides more choice proves either two things, you're blind, or you never actually read it.

Did you just copy/paste your previous comment?

Because I can swear it was the exact same crap there too.

I have read the script.

Here, I'll prove it to you:*spoiler*

You chose the wrong side, Shepard.

I fail to see what the Illusive Man ever saw in you.

I had hoped you'd provide some real competition.
*spoiler*

I get it. You're just mad because BioWare didn't base the game around your taste. But, please. I've heard enough of that.

That spoiler is evidence that ME2's main plot was pointless.

Yep. Garrus definitely sports the ME2 Alternate Appearance feel in ME3.
And I have no idea regarding the implementation of sand/snow effects to be honest. Would be nice if they did something like that, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Popular characters also get their character progression and player choice thrown out the window from the first game so players can get their dudebro and Turian <3<3Husbandu<3<3 to tag along too apparently.

That was one of the things I really liked with the Uncharted games and how they always made Nathan look like he's been through hell at the end of certain levels.

Though, they could just avoid it by having calm winds. :P

Here's my advice for both sides:

Wait till March before passing judgement.

You're NOT going to persuade anyone here or at Bioware on your points.

You;re free to cancel your preorders and you're free to wait till ME3 is in the bargain bin but realize that you're just wasting your time and breath in coming to forums to either rage about the fall of ME or to defend Bioware.

Save your breath and go invest your time in something more worth it.

Honestly, even if ME3 sucks and Bioware dies, I doubt the world will collapse nor will any of it matter in 2-3 yrs time.

^Couldn't agree more, problem is people will still complain before even playing it

To those who says that ME3 contains a lot of shooting: *ahem* WHAT THE **** DID YOU EXPECT?

Mass Effect has always contained a lot of shooting and nobody's trying to hide that fact.

Oh, and keep your elitist crap about how much of a snob you are to yourself. The world will manage just fine without it.

Funny since last ME3 trailer doesn't have much shooting.

Reapers shot his lasers few time, Turians were shooting with their fighters but that was mostly in background, Garrus and Vega were shooting a little, but were behind Shepard while Shepard didn't fired a single shot. Didn't even used heavy melee.

He was just running.

And nobody was killed in that trailer either but that 1 Turian. Though he could have survived it. Small chance, but chance nevertheless.

Not to mention that the story will more than likely be longer than ME1's seven hours. And the characters are far more interesting too.

I happened to be a huge fan of Mass Effect since the first title, and am completely okay and hyped with the directions they've taken with ME2 and are going to take with ME3. What the hell is wrong with me?

Nothing.

I don't even understand some of the so-called "criticism" here. As I see it, it's mostly driven by a "they changed it now it sucks" mentality. I have my issues with ME2, and have no idea if ME3 will be better in that regard, but this overgeneralizing crap is a prime example of Fan Dumb.

ME3 took everything that was wrong with ME2 and ran with it. I didn't think it was possible to put Helena Blake becoming a social worker to shame in terms of sheer ridiculousness..... but Bioware found a way.

It seems you people don't understand,

Believe me, I do. And that's the unfortunate part. It's like watching a really bad accident happening in real time.

when people ask "where are the RPG aspects of the game, the exploration, import choices affecting the story" each time a new trailer or teaser or gameplay video is released (and the new one is NOT a trailer, it's just a segment of the game), they're not asking Bioware to show those things in the VGA or any other place like that, people ask for those things because since Bioware announced ME3 (a year ago) they ONLY showed combat trailers, combat teasers and they even used the bioware pulse to show combat and gameplay (gameplay related to combat), the only exception is the bioware pulse about sound, which was GREAT.

Newsflash: the only content that isn't spoilerishfic about mass effect is combat related. OMGWTFBBQ!!

We know that this game focus on the war, but since they said that there actually ARE more RPG aspects, people want to see if that's real or not.
If you liked what you saw so far, good for you, but if you can post here that you liked the "trailer", they can post here saying that they DON'T. I repeat, it has been one year since bioware announced the game and they ONLY showed combat, I agree that the VGAs or E3 aren't places to show those things, but they didn't even show the RPG aspects in any of the bioware pulse episodes.

People are free to show how self-important, spoiled and "entitled to everything" they are. And I'm free to facepalm as well. People are ****ing about 1 min trailers that run on a cheesy show, as if it's the end of the world. In a sidenote, I think it's awesome we as a civilization reached this point of worrying about these ridiculous things, rather than worry about deaths, diseases and real wars. On the other hand, it's ****ing ridiculous.

Before someone jumps to say "they can't show those things without spoiling the game" I'm gonna say 2 things:
1- IT'S POSSIBLE to make a video showing armor customization

Armor? Hey aint' that combat related? And they did show weapon customization, didn't they? They showed powers, etc.

..., showing some side planets to show exploration, even how import works by showing some random subquest that is afected by our choices.

... and how do you show some "quest" that is afected by your choices without spoiling them? Do you even think before writing?

Besides, we know that we need to defend a tower in tuchanka for some reason, we know that we have to defend a Krogan female from cerberus on the salarian planet, "OMG BIOWARE SPOILED THAT FOR ME IN THE "TRAILERS" RELEASED SO FAR...
EVERY piece of information is a spoiler, if you didn't have a problem seeing all the info bioware released so far, ONE little video showing other aspects won't affect you.

Wait. Wasn't the Krogan level exactly to show what happens if you let Mordin live to redo the Krogan cure? Or did you want to see every possibility that comes with the choices you make in mass effect 1 and 2 in that level? I really am at pains to understand your babbling turned into an actual trailer.

2-You actually DON'T have to see a video showing the RPG aspects of the game if that bores you.

Newsflash: you don't actually have to see anything if it irritates you to this level. Hey!

I like seeing how the game is improving, but I want to see how its improving in EVERY aspect, not just combat.

In the end, why people who likes combat it's more important than those who want to see something ELSE BEFORE the game comes out? We all can to say what we like or not from what they show us. So before saying stupid things like "OMG I don't understand how can they ask for this or that when the game is about war" well, for your information, BIOWARE told us that the game will have more RPG aspects, we only want to see if that's true.

It's THAT difficult to understand that not everyone likes to see combat?

Is it so difficult to understand that ME3 only comes in March? And that you'll have plenty of time to see more well made trailers, pre-release reviews, etc before buying your copy? WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE.

Once again I learn that I should never be amazed at what the BSN will b**** about. For those of you who are so disappointed with this trailer, what exactly could they have shown that would've made you happy? Keeping in mind that 1) this is a game about the galaxy-wide war that the entire series has been building up to and 2) it was for mass-consumption, not the relatively tiny cadre of RPG heads who, apparently, would rather spend this war for their survival roaming around to random planets and chatting up strangers.

Are you talking about the trailer or the game here?

My post was about the trailer. The part you bolded was about the game. I'm tired of hearing people complain that a game about a super soldier at the very center of a galaxy-wide war for his very existence possibly being too linear -- particularly based on trailers and other marketing material. The franchise has been building to this from the start, so the plot is not a surprise, and it makes absolutely no sense to be exploring planets doing random quests the way you did in the first two games, while the Reapers are trying to exterminate all organic life -- starting with Shepard.

Yes, BioWare could come up with some convoluted stories to get Shepard out to random planets -- and that would probably make some people very happy -- but I don't want the story distorted and crapped on for such throwaway missions.

And I guess that last part underscores the divide between people who are angry or disappointed about potential loss of traditional RPG elements and some of us who aren't: Mass Effect tells a great story. I want to be a part of that story and play a role within it, whereas people lamenting lack of space exploration, loot and RPG mechanics are not concerned enough with the quality of the story as a whole to sacrifice any control over their role in it. The best story for them is the one they create in their own minds. They don't want to feel that a story is being told to them. They want to choose their own adventure Thus they are repelled by anything they perceive as "linear" or "streamlined" or "dumbed down". This type of gamer believes Skyrim, for example, is an incredible game, because it puts as few restrictions on them as possible.

BioWare's traditional focus is on story-driven gameplay. The Mass Effect franchise has remained true to this ideal. For that reason, choices and options have become more and more limited as the crisis in the game has become more and more urgent. This has created more and more tension between the "Skyrim"-type gamer and the Mass Effect franchise.

It wasnt very Mass Effect. More of just a dirty shooter using sci fi as a backdrop. No spaciness, no strange world, no sleek shiny technology, no emphasis on lore and characters and mysterious conversations with synth beats getting your heart rate up, no fog horn sunrise at the end. On the bright side, it is a graphical improvement. Too bad it is all shooter perspective marketing so I can't see the worlds and people and cities that capture the Mass Effect universe where it started. Just a bunch of gritty world-in-flames scenes.

Yes, because in a story about a galaxy-wide war and a super soldier at the center of it, we should absolutely expect to be roaming around various star systems Captain Kirk-style, sipping strange ales with various alien species and chatting up the local babes.

Honestly, what is wrong with people?

Oh, silly me. Didn't realize this was going to be Mass Effect minus the exploration and conversations across the galaxy in exchange for a soldier in constant shootouts a la a SHOOTER.

Mass Effect 3 is more than always feeling like you are on a battlefield. You are off if you think we won't see places that aren't being shot up constantly or that each planet will be hit by a Reaper each time you visit. Stop acting like the war has turned every bit of gameplay rightfully into a battlezone mission. There is more to Mass Effect than this war. There are still strange worlds and aliens to meet, and maybe you will still gather information while sipping strange ales. Mass Effect is not a sprint from one battle to the next. If that is how it would work, than the threats in ME1 and ME2 would have required the same nonstop pace from Shepard to save lives.

No but I do think there will be a more concentrated focus on combat in this game than in the previous two. As such, picking out a few odd conversations for "RPG" fan service in a trailer would be misleading and only cause them problems down the road.

Bioware should release a trailer that reveals that all the improved combat in their combat RPG was just a ploy to draw in the strictly Halo and Call of Duty players.  In reality, the combat has been based off of the vastly superior turn-based system, with a new cover system mechanic to where you will take no damage once you find yourself in cover, so long as you avoid the lethargic movements of oncoming foes.

But enough of the combat, we need more story than the basic plot!  If every film trailer out in the theater and internet shows every plot point, than so shall my Mass Effect 3 trailer.  Cue every revelation, betrayal, and end game sequence that can fit within a span of approximately a minute...maybe an added 30 seconds if Bioware decides to spoil Thresher Serpent copulation and include all future DLC.

Oh, and the end comes with two totally awesome announcements.  First, the released date will be pushed back another 2 years so that the team can build totally re-worked levels and plot lines that drastically change the game based on which casual outfit you sported on the Normandy and which store really was your favorite on the Citadel.
Second, the "omg surprise" moment of a new Mass Effect game announcement: the multiplayer announcement.  That's right, all sorts of money being put right into a brand new game devoted to multiplayer so no one has to deal with its optionalist ways in ME3.  In it, you can have in depth conversations with your fellow players, choose to romance the enemy, and easily win any match off on your lonesome, cuz you have heart kid.

^ I like this trailer too, but people whos taste isnt satisfied are hating on entire forums. Well it's their right. I like Mass effect. Like every game it has flaws, mistakes, etc.  It's really strange to read people posts about the game without them playing game in the first place. If you already don't like the game, it's ok. But stop making idiotic posts where you state what You would do different and bioware should listen to you and change script in glate game development. I'm not protecting bioware or mass effect franchise but this is just bloody riddiculous.

Little late to the forum, but I was a bit underwhelmed by the Trailer for the same shooter-focused reasons already stated. Notwithstanding, I was VERY impressed at the graphical quality; kudos BW. I actually had somewhat a difficult time distinguishing from cutscene and in-game footage. As to the shooter complaints, someone made a good observation that BW likely already has your purchase for ME3, so there's little need to market to you. Rather, they'd market to the masses, which are much more shooter-ingrained at this point. I don't really blame them, but they are also falling into a trap by looking too much like all the rest.
