You don't get the point of the VGAs do you?

The sort of stuff you talk about just doesn't fit with the VGAs - they require a load, action-based trailer designed to impress the masses. And thats what we got. it was a great action-sequence, but it was for the media and the masses far more than it was for us.

Besides, ME3 is about a galactic war. The scale needs to be big, and this clip showed that Bioware can give us the sort of scale necessary to realise the concept of a galaxy-wide war.

Good god, Candidate is so clearly the smartest poster on BSN.

THANK YOU.

It seems that RPGs cannot have guns, explosions, or fast paced fighting of any sort. They must instead focus on walking from point A to point B while talking to people and occasionally going into battle with an enemy.

When I read this description, the first thing that came to my mind was Pokemon...:wizard:

Meh. 2/3 of the trailer was a close up of Shepard's ass in that janky running animation.

And it was glorious. <3

Nice trailers, but where the heck is the Femshep. trailer we were promised 6 months back?

The trailer was a lie just like the cake!

Did you really think they were going to show it at the VGA's? They're not going to break the continuity of their marketing just for the FemShep fans. It'll be a web exclusive trailer or something, not a big game conference type deal.

I am aware this is the VGAs. How does that explain the rest of the marketing being similarly shooter/military/world-in-flames aimed, with little sign of the time we will spend with the story, universe, characters, and stunning high-tech sleek vistas?

Fallout 3 would like to dispute that. *Yes I know you were being sarcastic*:innocent:

Only thing that bothered me was that the animations were still a bit rough (could be an older build though, we don't really know). While the run still makes it look like Shep is stiff legged, something else just didn't seem right. Was nothing like the animations shown in Bioware Pulse lately though, so hopefully that means an older build.

I also remember the one Brute (one that lands in front of Shep, not the scary one that launches out of the ground) coming up and just pausing there, letting Shep turn away.

Hopefully that isn't in the final build. I remember Resident Evil 5 where the burlap chainsaw-wielders would just pause for a full second or two, allowing you to completely avoid or knock them down.

Because 1) people ****ed about spoilers in the advertising of ME2, 2) the Reapers are tearing everything apart, and 3) it's an action packed finale, so they're making it look like SRS BSNS.

Reaper: IMMA FIRIN' MA LAS-
*Renegade Interrupt*
Shepard: I've had enough of your disingenuous assertions *Shepard punches the reaper*
*Reaper explodes*

If it is all a world in flames and has no time of reflection or deep contemplation, then it sure as hell isn't true to the Mass Effect I fell for and I don't feel too much was given away with ME 1 which I loved in marketing and in play.

It's a fair point. His movements were quick, but it was a bit stiff in animation. Makes me miss Naughty Dog's fluidity in movement.

What the hell did you expect? Sunshine and daisies? It's WAR it doesn't leave much time for reflection however there will still be RPG elements just likely not what you wanted.

You pretty much have to train yourself to hate that trailer. Even if you were unimpressed by the action, the work that BW put into the game is clearly evident. So if you are going to give any gift this Christmas, give Bioware a damn break.

There has actually been very little marketing.

3 trailers, one of which was CGI and one of which was based on E3 footage - footage from demos that had to be based around combat in order to fit the context of E3.

Other than that, we've got a handful of extended demos - which have shown some RPG stuff - and the Pulse episodes, which showcase the game's development. Combat is what has improved the most and so clearly they will focus on that.

People make it sound like there has been a massive marketing blitz, but there really hasn't been very much at all.

Also, the whole 'worlds in flame' thing might be because, you know, there is a war on. Across the entire galaxy.

Dude, ME1's marketing bludgeoned you with the fact that the Reapers were coming and what they were.

As for the time for reflection stuff, that's in the game, not commercials supposed to amp people up for the impending galactic war game.

It certainly left me wanting more...

Yes, it didn't seem much different from the trailer they showed at E3 with the reaper chasing them through a desert landscape.  Heck it was even the same type of reaper form for God's sake.:?

I think there is only like two types of fighting Reapers. The really big Soverign, and the relatively smaller but still ginourmus Reapers.

I thought the trailer was okay. It didn't really impress me but I didn't dislike it. Seeing Vega was good for a change even if we only caught a glimpse and heard one line. The thresher maw was actually pretty cool I must admit, but it still wasn't enough to get me excited enough to squee and rewatch it.

So I guess my overall reaction is: :)

I agree with this.

SHEPARD AND GARRUS

More of just a dirty shooter using sci fi as a backdrop.

DID SHEPARD EVEN FIRE A SHOT?

No spaciness, no strange world, no sleek shiny technology,

TUCHANKA, WITH REAPERS, A THRESHER MAW, AND SLEEK TURIAN FIGHTERS

no emphasis on lore and characters and mysterious conversations with synth beats getting your heart rate up,

*knows the context and what a crucial story element that tower is and why the mission is so deeply tied to a major theme in the story, can't drop spoilers, bites fist*

no fog horn sunrise at the end.

It had an evolution of that, though.  You saw the planet, it was just being burned alive, and the fires in its atmosphere instead of the sun behind it lit the arc in the logo.

On the bright side, it is a graphical improvement.

Agreed.

Too bad it is all shooter perspective marketing so I can't see the worlds and people and cities that capture the Mass Effect universe where it started. Just a bunch of gritty world-in-flames scenes.

But that's it, isn't it?  The world we came to know and love is in flames.  That's what will make it powerful: everything we've come to love about Mass Effect--the people, the places, et cetera--will all burn if we fail.  And we'll see that burning.

Sorry for deconstructing this post, but I tire of this negativity.
