I am aware this is the VGAs. How does that explain the rest of the marketing being similarly shooter/military/world-in-flames aimed, with little sign of the time we will spend with the story, universe, characters, and stunning high-tech sleek vistas?

Because 1) people ****ed about spoilers in the advertising of ME2, 2) the Reapers are tearing everything apart, and 3) it's an action packed finale, so they're making it look like SRS BSNS.

We're gonna have a demo next month. I like that they're keeping most things narrative related for...the game.
Mind you I didn't like much to see reaper vs thresher maw myself now. Just to set an example.

People seemed to have not noticed that ME1 and ME2 accomplished plenty of gameplay AND story showcasing in the time that ME3 has chosen to show itself as a shooter in gritty war zones that don't reflect the sleek future Mass Effect is.

Also, the whole 'worlds in flame' thing might be because, you know, there is a war on. Across the entire galaxy.

That's exactly what I've been trying to say,

I know right, and yet people still don't get it.

It certainly left me wanting more...

Yes, it didn't seem much different from the trailer they showed at E3 with the reaper chasing them through a desert landscape.  Heck it was even the same type of reaper form for God's sake.:?

I think there is only like two types of fighting Reapers. The really big Soverign, and the relatively smaller but still ginourmus Reapers.

I guess its just my high expectations for the game that made me think there would be more than two types.  However, what I do want is to not have a game where I fought those four legged reapers for the majority of the game and then fighting harbinger at the end.
Harbinger: "Now that you have destroyed over a dozen of my favourite cyberdoggies, I WILL ASSUME DIRECT CONTROL OVER THE LAST BOSS FIGHT!!"
Me: *Sigh*

Sometimes I wonder if people really expect trailers filled with nothing but Liara romance conversations in the Normandy or on the Asari homeworld, or if they're just desperately looking for something to **** about.

Can you imagine the bloody ****storm that the BSN would raise if they started spoiling real, important, serious bits of the game for the sake of showing off the beloved "choices with consequences"?

Look, word of advice - recall that the marketing is directed at gaining an new audience, not the already-present fans of the series that presumably are already following things like Bioware Pulse for nitty gritty details on things like RPG elements. If you're in the latter group, ignore the marketing, and you'll be much happier for it.

Cuz that sleek future is gettin' its ass handed to it, son.

The Reapers are taking all the big, shiny things and smashing them up.

Sur'Kesh and Earth looked pretty slick and sleek (well, before Earth got demolished).

Besides, both ME1 and ME2 spoiled a significant amount of their plots, ME2 in particular.

Tuchanka definitely represents a very real part of the future that Mass Effect is.

Pretty much that. It's a trailer. If you want more story-involved content, you'll find it in about 90 days. And on that note, I'm going to work. Goodnight, fans.

Things that have excited me so far: the leaked beta videos, the leaked script and a glimpse of Jack from the art book. Everything else not so much.

Indeed.

Frankly, I'm just glad to see how much Bioware has been able to increase the scale of these games. They need to nail the scale to pull off the image of a galactic war, and it looks like they're right on the money.

1) the story is about a galactic war and 2) the sleek future being demolished is sort of the point of the game. You're trying to save that, not just maintain the status quo.

the trailer was underwhelming.

id think there would be a better segment of the game to show then running from point A to point B while things around you are breaking with loud noises. was that even a ME trailer, or just a random TPS segment in a game? eesh, id have rather them put out something that makes people want to play the game.

all wed need in a trailer is to show pull, cloak, adrenalin rush, and charge, and thatll get tons of people interested.

I think they said, and yes they could be lying haters, that the big capital ships will look different from each other; maybe not every single one.

But I mean the small ones are the collective of useless species to them, no resource goes to waste right. This atleast expands their numbers without building a big capital ship every time.

They look like they can handle themselves in a fight as well.

Pretty sure choosing to show Tuchanka in the trailer is choosing to show one of the most damaged and unadvanced places in the universe of Mass Effect. Not a good representation of the future that is in ME

Sorry for deconstructing this post, but I tire of this negativity.

I feel the same way. It annoys me even more because of the fact that I have also read the script and knows what's what.

If anything, ME3 will be a lot better than ME1, because all ME1 had was sterile and clean environments that never showed the slightest hint of disturbance or trouble. I thought it wore out its welcome fast.

Oh, and I think the RPG system was bland and boring, with little to no real progression. It was always just a status raiser, instead of providing items and things that actually worked differently.

Nah, I'd say Feros and the busted up Presidium were pretty damn cool.

ME2 seemed to have more of an issue with the "make environments, not levels" thing.  ME3 seems to be getting that sense of "bigness" back.
