@MisterJB: I agree - it is realistic. We still have our ape brains - I suppose I was appealing to abstract possibilities... maybe one day, we'll be better - or maybe one day evolution will cure the genetic pool of us - who knows.

===

But, if we must put current human standards on it... then Xilizhra provides one that doesn't involve demands.

@MisterJB - my friend, that's still the old ape mind.

That's being realistic. Or do you think the other races will sacrifice their ships and their people because they really like humans?

I imagine they like not being Reaper chow.

Which brings me back to what we have to give them in return. In this case, making Earth the final battlefield will protect their own worlds.
And figthing the Reapers doesn't necessarely lead to Earth being saved. They could decide that the safest way is to destroy the Charon relay and hope the Reapers are too busy harvesting us to notice the explosion before it's too late.

That's too much of a risk itself to undertake unless everyone agrees with it; it could seriously damage the allies' coordination if it started without everyone's consent. Additionally, the Reapers know about this tactic now and will probably have the relay under heavy guard.

Well - I certainly hope the other alien races play an amazing role in saving Earth... so they can finally say.

"Are you done being hyper paranoid psychotics? Ready to act like a species of the future instead of the same stupid apes you started as?"

Alien Armada coming to save Earth with Shepard should shut Terra Firma up for good. Or at least give them something to think about.

That will depend on what humanity will have to give them in return for the help.

Their gratitude. And vice versa.

It's more of a risk than trying to take a planet from the Reapers?
Also, how is it a risk? The only people who stand to loose more than a couple of ships is us in case the reapers are guarding the relay like you theorized.

Sadly, the world doesn't work that way. Neither does ME's universe.

Trust me, if the galaxy can pull off the impossible plenty of thanks will be going around to the people that made it possible.

It's much more of a risk than... let's say, what we'll actually be doing, as you don't seem to have read the spoilers.

Though to even destroy the relay, you'd need to pimp out a huge asteroid and fly it into the relay, which also probably means fitting it with dreadnaught-level kinetic barriers, and even those might not work well enough against a concentrated Reaper salvo.

Without spoiling the story at all, it is almost the opposite.

Earth is being destroyed by the Reapers. Without the help Shepard can collect around the galaxy from other races (or other human outposts), earth is doomed.

Well, you don't paint a very bright picture, do you?

Mass Effect 2 was labeled as being "dark" at times but this game, with millions dead on Earth, I'm thinking the happiest ending we can get is to simply try and stop our annialation as genocide is already well under way.  Victory can and should be attainable but it'll be too late for millions if not billions.

No, I haven't. I am arguing based on the principle that, in order to save Earth, you will need to force the Reapers out and that can only be done through force which will, inevitably, involve fleets.

I'm sure the salarians can come up with something more creative and safe than that.

This isn't just about Earth. The entire galaxy is at stake, hence the title of this thread.

Perhaps worrying about this principle shouldn't be your highest priority.

Would you bet your life on it?

armass's original post was about how an aliet fleet helping Earth would give the Terra Firma party something to think about. I argued that the aliens would only commit themselves to save Earth if they gained something in return thus, it wouldn't disprove what Terra Firma believes in. Then, you argued that humanity's gratitude would be sufficient and I argued otherwise.
It's obvious that the Reaper War is bigger than humanity. But the aliens don't necessarely need to save Earth in order to stop the Reapers.

What should it be then?

Am I one of the humans on Earth in this situation or am I an alien?
If I'm a human, I'm screwed either way. Either the other races destroy the relay and I die or the Reapers turn me into goo.
If I'm an alien, I would argue in favor of having other plans in case destroying the Charon relay is not enough to stop the Reapers.

Earth and Saving humans isnt the only reason final battle will take place in there, that would be rather silly. I would tell you why we need to battle in Sol system in the final mission, but it's spoilers from the leak.

I shouldn't discuss ME3 until I've played the game? Without basing yourself on the leak, do you have an idea for saving Earth without the need for alien fleets?

What do any of the aliens have to gain by helping each other? People keep saying "Earth is one planet, it's not important compared to the rest of the galaxy" but you could say that about any alien homeworld as well. No, they don't need to save the Earth to stop the Reapers but by that logic you probably wouldn't need to save most planets to stop the Reapers. This is the type of thinking that would doom the galaxy, if everyone sits back with their arms crossed like "what can you do for me if I help you?".

I have none whatsoever. Alien help is going to be quite vital.

Ya know, I can't think of a more lame tag line for ME3 than that.
Wondering if it's possible to let Earth burn while saving the rest of the galaxy...

Yes. And how would you; again, no leak; ensure the alien help?
