We've got a bit sidelined here, I think. The argument was about whether the asari helped someone in the galaxy. Whether they were useful TO THE OTHER SPECIES. We couldn't find any provable occasion on which they were. That should be enough to prove my original statement about their uselesness.
Asari formed the Council a gesture that no other race would have really done. Turians aren't really into alliances unless they are on top and Salarians usually consider everyone a threat and always prepare for the worse.
Asari have the largest economy in the galaxy and hell during peace time if a political entity decides to become a problem unlike America if they put an embargo on say a group like the SA it will be utterly disastrous. That can easily be used to keep others in line in case they start trying to saber rattle with other races over some idiotic conflict.
Asari were able to get multiple races into joining Citadel Space. They were also highly likely instrumental in keeping the peace for over a thousand years straight.
Asari were also instrumental in humanity not getting curbstomped into the ground by the Turian military.
they also in all probability saved our asses when the turians were gearing up for full scale war during first contact. A war we simply weren't prepared for.
Humanity is the galaxy's only hope

Asari are ****ing diplomats willing to not let wars start without their say so. If they see the Turians starting a conflict what the hell do you think they are giong to do?John Renegade wrote...

And the sharing of the tech issue - you should check the ME3 spoilers group. You would see, how "sharing" and hypocritic they were.
Because they didn't share anything? How hypocritical! I'm sure the turians, salarians and humans share all of their secrets...
But that doesn't matter. They shared some of their technology (with the elcor, for example) -> they were useful to other species (elcor) -> your point is wrong

I think that you are speculating. That they call themselves good diplomats doesn't mean that they act as such.1136342t54 wrote...

And if they didn't share their tech, it couldn't help the other species = my original (and only) point still stands.
Edit: helping the others by releasing the tech to everyone is a bit different than giving "help" to a particular group - a group, whis would be much easily manipulated by getting the asari "gifts" than other more technologically advanced species.

Maybe I used poor words there. They are actually good diplomats, but they are poor helpers. Whatever "diplomacy" they use, they use it to stay on top, not to help others.Wulfram wrote...

It is straight from the codex. Everyone in the galaxy consider them good diplomats and are quite capable of using their own culture to unite or even control others at times. They didn't become a freaking economic superpower just because. It is not speculation you just claim it because you actively deny the information given to you in the game.
I can understand if you don't want to believe it due to not liking the species but it is generally accepted in universe of Asari being good diplomats and effectively being the most powerful species in the galaxy.

Even so being a superpower doesn't mean you don't help others. In fact being a superpower basically brings expectations of your superpower status. You must help other nations in times of need because it is expected (which they have multiple times). You can't even use the Krogan rebellions as an example of not helping because their own colonies were being attacked before the actual war but they tried to peacefully solve the problem until they got fed up with it and went to war.
