Does anyone think this is a valid excuse?:
"It is hard to encapsulate the story of an RPG into a 1 minute trailer for an awards show or similar. Especially without revealing too many spoilers."

I mean no offense. I do believe the list of positives for ME3 is far greater than negatives, but the marketing wouldn't have us long time fans believe so. I am commenting on my sinking spirits as I wait longer and longer for the visual proof that the Mass Effect elements that were a focus before this shooter ad campaign are still present. Give a trailer that we might get for Lord of the Rings or Casino Royale, absent of spoilers, but wholly representative of the story, locations, universe, and action.

Stop giving us an action ad campaign.

Who misses when Mass Effect looked like the next great sci fi film epic in stunning vista cities, soft synth music that embodied the futuristic universe, moody conversations in neon-lit hubs, and scenes of an open and uncharted galaxy to explore in the purple and blue lens flare of promise?

Or do some of you really prefer this Black Hawk Down in Space with >5% of the footage time including those other parts of ME?

Saying that you can't fit the other major parts of ME besides more and more shooting scenes in war torn not-so-sleek locations because your trailer is only one minute or you would be spoiling things is ridiculous. See what the rest of the great storytellers in entertainment who have made trailers would say to that.

And I still want my foghorn sunrise mystery-of-the-universe effect at the end of the trailers. Show me my beloved Mass Effect isn't just a backdrop to this shooter you keep showing.

I am not complaining about the game. I am complaining about the lack of proof that it is still a game true to its franchise.

Because, TC, the sad reality is that people like you and me are in the minority. The console market is saturated with shooters and casual gamers (the vast majority); they have a hard time deciding what to buy.  Believe it or not, the majority of console gamers don't  spend hours lurking forums and review sites to keep up to date with new titles. Usually they end up going with whichever game has the most blood and explosions. This means that you advertise your game with a lot of PEW PEW and as little complicated stuff/nuance as possible LoL....

Doesn't mean the game wont be a rich, engrossing RPG....it just means you'll have to wait for the actual game to see most of the good stuff.....which is true for most RPG's really.

Sorry, but that dream is gone.

No more sparkle, no more big, wide galaxy for you to explore. No more promise. Because that galaxy you love is getting its ass kicked.

The Citadel? Probably a refugee camp. Ilium? A crater. Your galaxy map? Smeared with the red indicators of advancing enemy forces, lightly speckled with the little green dots that represent the few strongholds you have left. Your bubbly, moody synths have been drowned out by the sound of gunfire and the agonizing screams of prisoners of war as the Reapers twist them into mindless, hideous monsters to do their bidding.

That's why ME3 is gonna be powerful. That's your galaxy they're attacking.

Now go save what's left of it, kid.

Oh, that makes sense. 100% of the universe and Mass Effect 3's time will obviously spent in shooting scenes like they show in trailers where everything is burning. Why can't I have that common sense that Mass Effect 3 will be 100% war scenes?

You'll still get to dick around with your armor colors and talk to people.  Christ.

But you were lamenting the mood.  Sorry, but the mood has changed.

I was lamenting the lack of any evident non-war-torn action scenes. I was also referring to the confusion of the marketing with this thread. Dick around with that.

Marketing isn't going to show the "boring" stuff, especially not when the war is the selling point.  Deal with it.

(And I read the rough script--the scenes are in there.  Calm yo ******.)

Where's is a trailer that can show the context? One of those is concept. Two of those look like military strategising. Mordin doesn't tell me a thing.

Don't misunderstand. I am looking for a trailer that shows more than the action chase of the war in their true context, at the high quality of well-rounded imagery we saw in the previous two campaigns. There is a way to make a trailer that is more than demos of shooting and enemy scenes in wrecked dustpads like Tuchanka that can be likened to a futuristic bombed-out Iraq.

Shouldn't have to read the script to picture this in a mental trailer. You are now invalidated for thinking content that isn't action is "boring". The unshown scenes don't go in the "boring" category for the loyal buyers here.

I understand the quotations meaning that it wasn't her own choice of words.

My point is that you should be willing to point out that such a categorization is not fitting to Mass Effect.

If you miss Mass Effect 1, play Mass Effect 1. ME3 is a war story, and will look and feel accordingly.

Doesn't match up with how the reapers generally do things though does it? Virgil explained how Reapers went about doing this in Mass effect. Virigil explains them going world by world, system by system. Systematically as a machines. Not hitting everything at once. They also claims they destroyed some worlds fully while enslaving others. I yet to see Reaper agents or anything close to the pattern on how they usually do things. This time they seem to be everywhere, despite the fact that spreading their fleet thin only makes them vurnable.
