Who misses when Mass Effect looked like the next great sci fi film epic in stunning vista cities, soft synth music that embodied the futuristic universe, moody conversations in neon-lit hubs, and scenes of an open and uncharted galaxy to explore in the purple and blue lens flare of promise?

Sorry, but that dream is gone.

No more sparkle, no more big, wide galaxy for you to explore. No more promise. Because that galaxy you love is getting its ass kicked.

The Citadel? Probably a refugee camp. Ilium? A crater. Your galaxy map? Smeared with the red indicators of advancing enemy forces, lightly speckled with the little green dots that represent the few strongholds you have left. Your bubbly, moody synths have been drowned out by the sound of gunfire and the agonizing screams of prisoners of war as the Reapers twist them into mindless, hideous monsters to do their bidding.

That's why ME3 is gonna be powerful. That's your galaxy they're attacking.

Now go save what's left of it, kid.

If you miss Mass Effect 1, play Mass Effect 1. ME3 is a war story, and will look and feel accordingly.

I see you didn't read that this was about the marketing issue. And you missed the part where I was looking forward to the next game, considering that I already enjoyed the first two.

I guess my mistake here is thinking that common sense is common.

Of course I play Mass Effect 1 when I want to. Of course the war will be present in Mass Effect 3. Of course, unlike the marketing, however, you will not be in constant battle in this franchise. This is not a linear shooter where war moments are the entirety of your play experience.

I understand the quotations meaning that it wasn't her own choice of words.

My point is that you should be willing to point out that such a categorization is not fitting to Mass Effect.

Hahaha, oh man. You should take this act on the road, you'd be a hit like Larry the Cable Guy! Just be acting all oblivious and indignant about things that are explained to you; comedy gold right there.

Shouldn't have to read the script to picture this in a mental trailer. You are now invalidated for thinking content that isn't action is "boring".

You expect a trailer to encapsulate the entirety of a game?  Really?

Look.  The stuff you want to showcase is meangingless without context and can't be shown off in a three second jump cut.  People buy games to--get this--play them, so they'll want to see gameplay, because that's what 80% of the game is.  What we saw tonight was just that--gameplay, ripped right out of the game, with some content trimmed out to make it fit in an itty bitty timespot.  It's not a launch trailer.

Speaking of launch trailers, boy, ME1's sure had a lot of pew-pew in that puppy.  ALL THAT ACTION, MAN.  And boy, ME2 SURE LOOKS ACTION-PACKED.

DOESN'T ALL THIS ACTION MAKE THE GAME LOOK LIKE A SH*T-TON OF FUN TO PLAY?

And seriously, EA's marketing is full of derp, anyway.  Remember Dead Space 2's "your mom hates this game?"

I responded to someone who chose not to explain. Your post doesn't make sense. Did you read what I had originally responded to? There was no scenario of oblivious acts.

Listen people. mass effect 3 will be a war story, there will be lots of combat, but there will be times of peace/non combat, side missions, investigating ways to stop reapers, we all know this. cannon is just pointing out that none of this is shown in the trailers

Marketing is exactly what communicates the war aspect in ME3. It's marketing. For the masses. To show off explosions and gunfights and campaign highlights. And you're making such a big deal out of it as if this is the first time PR has not encapsulated everything about the product it's advertising. Thanks for your kind words regarding my mental state! :wizard:

You are being petty. It is obvious that I am discussing more than the VGA trailer and it is obvious that I am not calling for the entrie game in a single trailer. I am calling for the quality of trailers we have come to expect of this franchise and from entertainers of BioWare's caliber.

The simple truth is...in terms of marketing, we will never really see say "the asari bartender conversation on Illum"...it is such a small segment of people that would be interested in it, even though, on these boards, I remember that conversation being one of the most well-liked lore dumps among fans...

I did not comment on your mental state. I felt your post was uninformed and spoke with a lack of level common sense.

Should we sit back and let the PR underwhelm us on the final act? No.

We saw the Asari in Flux. Why not the footage equivalent in ME3?

What can we do about it? Kickstart inflammatory forum threads to try and impress the guys at Bioware with our level of maturity in discussions? What?

They'll break out the CGI and the fancy stuff closer to release.  Right now, they're showing off the stuff they've improved the most (COMBAT!) and trying to avoid spoilers (STORY!).

Look, I was pissed at the SUPER ACTION EXPLOSIONS too, but I got the hell over it.  Why?  Because I've seen enough hints that the game I want is there, and as flash-bang-shock-and-awe as the marketing goodies are so far, they make me want to play this game.

The one that wasn't in the final game?  Well, OK, technically she was: that was actually a very early version of Liara.

We talk. And we hope they know that their company is not entitled to our money. So we can keep talking, and hope BioWare will acknowledge, address, and maybe join the converstation. That's what we do if we care before it is too late.

Don't worry your pretty little head about that, sweetcheeks. You just carry on with "not being concerned with what is happening" when Cheez gives you a reasonable response.

By the way, that bit in the quotations? That's the definition of oblivious. They say you learn something new every day. I'm glad I could help. Image IPB

Wait a second, Liara at some point of development was a stripper?!

That actually explains a lot.

Oh, I'm sorry.

So did you miss that part where I refer to the fact that a trailer does not ever guarantee spoilers. People would miss the previews for great movies if great trailers were going to just be spoilers. There is a lot to show of ME3 that I can't seem to steal a glimpse of.

'We saw the asari at Flux'

Yes,hello, Shepard. Remember how I single-handenly spoiled almost the entirety of ME1 and reduced a great discovery story to a simple series of plot devices, all leading to a revelation which you already know in less than half a minute?

Well, I am back because Lars needed an argument. Now listen to me spoiling all of ME3 for you.:-)

What does this even mean?  Wait, are you saying that trailers should be spoiler-free?

So they should, like, shy away from the story elements?

Well damn.

EDIT: Also, it looks like I'm not the only one calling Larsy sweet cheeks.  NEW FORUM NICKNAME.

I acknowledged both the quotations and the meaning of their use. That is not the definition of oblivious. You are of no help. "Sweetcheeks" is rather asinine from someone who doesn't know me. I respond to Cheez with full concern. Cheez has at least discussed the topic.

You said their trailer content omissions are to avoid spoilers. I said that isn't a justification for a lack of the content that is story-related. Spoilers are not guaranteed in trailers. They may be there, but are commonly not an issue.

No, the old X06 videos.  There was a proto-Liara who was playing quasar that proto-Shep bugs for intel. Then, as Phaedon notes, she spoiled most of ME1 for us.
