I'm always asking if ME3 is going to be the trilogy as Super Mario Bros 3 was to it's trilogy on the original Nintendo system.

No question that SMB3 was a humongous hit, greatest game of all time calibur while it's predecessor Super Mario Bros 2 became the forgotten sequel, only known from being too far different from the first game.

I've been wondering for a while now if Bioware is going to pull a Nintendo and produce a 3rd Mass Effect game so great that goes back to the original game formula and improve apon it 100% while making it exciting and instant replayable, I would be estatic.

So that Mass Effect 3 trailer didn't have much of a preview of what the game detailed than just the battle scene.  I looked on Youtube and found the original SMB3 ad and it was had absolutely no game play footage.  www.youtube.com/watch

Also it didn't hurt that SMB3 was previewed a year early in the movie the Wiz which more than likely help it garner strong anticipation.  Sadly there are no movies with that type mass marketing advertising calibur today.

Only now your realising bioware sold out for tthe shooter crowd ? Its been like that since mass effect 2, promise anrpg, deliver a shooter. Atleast with mass effect 3 they seem to be honest about what they are selling.

I can understand the marketing so far, but the last trailer was a kick with both foots in my chest... what a crap piece of media.

I am commenting on my sinking spirits as I wait longer and longer for the visual proof that the Mass Effect elements that were a focus before this shooter ad campaign are still present.

*Thows OP a life-vest for his "sinking spirit"*

Between this arguement and the people who were *still* disappointed that Sheploo wasn't femShep... after Priestly specifically said it would NOT be femShep.... I'm thinkin' there is just no pleasing the interwebz.

Who misses when Mass Effect looked like the next great sci fi film epic in stunning vista cities, soft synth music that embodied the futuristic universe, moody conversations in neon-lit hubs, and scenes of an open and uncharted galaxy to explore in the purple and blue lens flare of promise?

Sorry, but that dream is gone.

No more sparkle, no more big, wide galaxy for you to explore. No more promise. Because that galaxy you love is getting its ass kicked.

The Citadel? Probably a refugee camp. Ilium? A crater. Your galaxy map? Smeared with the red indicators of advancing enemy forces, lightly speckled with the little green dots that represent the few strongholds you have left. Your bubbly, moody synths have been drowned out by the sound of gunfire and the agonizing screams of prisoners of war as the Reapers twist them into mindless, hideous monsters to do their bidding.

That's why ME3 is gonna be powerful. That's your galaxy they're attacking.

Now go save what's left of it, kid.

People often wonder if their paragon or renegade choices are going to get them the "best" ending and as it seems, there are going to be millions if not billions dead, cities in ruins and fleets near wiped out.... any "best" ending is going to be bittersweet given the loses.  I have little doubt there will be a way to attain victory but at what cost is up to us the player.

Watch this, and the end of this. Plenty of talking, RPG stuff, combat, context and, in thae second one, emotion. Everything you're looking for.

If you're complaining about the trailers, then consider this - there have only been two real trailers so far and one of them was CGI. Everything else has been a demo more than a trailer, and all of them have been shown at events that pretty much require action and noise - E3 and the VGAs. There has been very little real ME3 marketing. Hell, the stuff I've linked to was leaked. Its hardly a shooter-based advertising campaign - more a trickle of combat-focused trailers.

As an aside, didn't the Su'kesh preview video/demo have a whack of features as to what skills we would have?

Just think short term profit. Appeal to an age group. As they grow up some will still be entertained by the same game play while the previous one gave enough publicity that the older kids will still be playing it when the little kids look up to them. Then they will buy game to be like the big kids and will play the game long enough to put out a new game that continues the cycle. This saves resources from plot and story that can go to graphics and physics.

As a casual gamer i find this thread to be highly insulting it is not the casual gamers fault if the fanboys and the fanatics think that ME is real or something is just a GAME that's why i have no problems with stuff like catsuits, the fact that they walk in space without a full suit or that the game doesn't really follow the lore. Then we have the whole shooter im sorry to say this but 9 out of 10 hours you spend on ME1 are well spend shooting stuff because from the very start bioware said that ME is a shooter, rpg hybrid get it shooter first.

I was posting an unnecessary rant here, but I cut it. I accept your answer, but I cannot concur.

I'm in that business for more than 15 years now - I'm almost 30. I saw good games, I saw bad games, I saw horrible games and epic games as well. Although I can't remember all of them I know most of the better games were aimed at core players - and NOT mainstreamed versions for the casual gamers.

I'd like to say, good games have a tendency to aim towards players who want to dive in the franchise. ME is a good example, but not the only one: KotOR works to, or most of the big movies like Star Wars, Star Trek etc. And know what? They started to fail as soon as they gave sh*t on their core audience. When they became too mainstream, they lost their essence.

My conclusion:
Mainstream is like junk food. Everyone can consume it, but it's not good and definitely not healthy.

// Edit

Somehow I made it and replaced one rant with another :?

Actually if I would have to wait to have nosebleeds before using my shepard's gun I would be satified of the fights, so I'll probably end Shepard's story then won't buy a 4 if there is one.

Not to mention that if you're on this forum it's likely that you're going to but ME3. I highly doubt you're the focus demographic for the marketing team... Also maybe what everyone is complaining about is the dearth of character trailers we're getting, like we did with ME2? You know the ones, with Grunt, Subject Zero, etc.

I miss all of it, OP. You're not alone.

And Cheese, if the game really is like that, then I might actually enjoy it, provided that ME1 and 2 (especially 1) are still relevant parts of the story. I mean extremely relevant. Not those stupid emails.

I get what your saying and i do kind of agree, BUT Mass effect is also a story not just  the same game rehashed over and over.
so to me Mass Effect 3 is a little like Lord Of The rings,The Return of the King, it is the action pack climax to the SAGA.

( hope this makes sense, it does in my head )

excpet that we all already are aware that ME3s story is DA in space.

i mean every bioware game ever made is a rehash of the one before it. bioware can only write one kind of story.

I dont dipute its formulaic, but that because some formulas make damn good exciting story's. but that doesnt make it a rehash like dare I say Halo, which is lets face it the same games over and over again.

I, uh, kind of got interested in it at first because the lore was kind of cool.
