That's more of a narrative screw up. Why would a high level operator ever be given a celebrity status? Alliance Military brass totally bungled the viability of one of their best soldiers for what? Propaganda?

to be fair, he was well known well before they actively promoted him, no matter the backstory. Skyllian blitz, akuze or torfan cemented him as a hero when the alliance needed heroes.

Chest hair. Beards. Leg hair. Back hair. Ear hair. Nose hair. Bikini spiders. This is an RPG. It's all about choices, dammit!

In that case I want a handlebar moustache and a braided beard for my Shepard. I think I'll change his name to Gimli.

Like I meant to demonstrate with my biker, nerd, and transvestite Shepard options are not always good. Sometimes they are, but not always. This "hippy-hair" option is a perfect example of that. I wear glasses real-life despite being in the military. Do I want Shepard to wear glasses also? No. Why? Because he's special forces and that requires 20/20 vision. If Shepard wore glasses that would break my immersion.

Honestly, if anybody wants hippy hair that hang at and beyond the shoulders is being stupid. Anything at the neckand well above the shoulders is tolerable.

Honestly that was all you needed to say, anything else was unnecessary. ;)  But that argument has holes. Tier 1 grows hair to blend in with other human cultures. What happens when wars aren't fought between cultures but between aliens? What's the point of growing hair then? You might as well say fem-Shepard should have the option to paint her face blue. Also doesn't change the fact that N7 are closer to Shock Troops than they are to Tier 1 though.

Thats just ridculous. ME is a RPG but not an open world RPG were u can do whatever you want. People need to understand that having limitations is ME.

Actually for all we know ME glasses look like the Sentry Visior. (which Shep can run around wearing and no one says squat).

The option not being good to you doesn't automatically make it a bad option.

And I wish people would stop calling it hippy hair. Having long hair does not make you a hippie.

Except there's no proof that his hair couldn't be long (as well as it was well maintained and clean) in the ME universe's military. And actually given how gender neutral the military is in the ME universe I wouldn't be surprised if standards for males and females were neigh identical. And since FemShep can apparently have long flowing locks...

You were the one who called it hippy hair in the original post dude ;)

You might want to reread the OP.
I certainly didn't make this thread.

Though I do support hippie hair. SHEP NEEDS SOME WEED!

I just don't get why people want to limit choices- play your Shepard any way you want dudes. My game has no effect on YOUR immersion.

They are.

But people do wear things that could pass for glasses (like what Admiral Cheeze posted or what my Shep's wearing in this shot)

:P *mocking commenses*

Nah. Just a minor mistake.

I do support hippy hair however all long hair =/= hippie hair as far as I'm concerned. I certainly wouldn't say those models I posted had hippie hair. :D

That isn't the only reason. The books I mentioned also state that having long hair and beards is part of the incognito way of not looking like an obvious soldier.

As far as N7 equating to Rangers/ RMC or USMC Force Recon. There is nothing in game (that I can recall) in their doctrine that states nor implies this. Those units often work in much larger groups. (platoon/battalion level) I have yet to even see in game or even slight implications that N7s work in forces that large. They are always fire team sized forces mentioned.

Took me a while to realize there was another post in this. The reason I say N7 is closer to those forces I described is because of their mission parameters. Tier 1 units are exclusively used in defensive counter-terrorism missions or support missions. They aren't cannon fodder to waste in some military assault on a secured base. They deal with hostage situations, support missions, and retrieval missions. Just by going off the Sole Survivor/Relentless backgrounds N7 missions include Search & Destroy (scouting an uncharted planet) and Assault (Attacking Akuze). There is also the news report in ME2 about the N7 Marines who destroyed a Batarian slave-traiding station or something like that.

N7 missions seem to have more similarities with Shock Troops than Tier 1.

also remember that the 7 is a competence indicator, NOT a unit type designation
