First of all, did he strike anyone else as Duncan Jr.?  Secondly, is there anyway for him not to die falling off the dragon?

Nope, he's introduced to clarify why someone needs to kill the archdemon and then dies once his plot-obligations have been completed.

So yeah.. Duncan Jr fits.

He also fills the hole of, "How the Archdemon is brought to the roof of Fort Drakon."

He's the luckiest man to ever die by being bucked from a dragon.

It's among the coolest ways to die even if a bit contrived.

I kept looking for the crane that lowered him onto the stage.

Dragon Age is going to have more mentor characters dying off than George Lucas.

*lol* but I bet it won't have more dead character than a George R.R Martin book.... speaking of Riordan was I the only one that beleived that the archdemon would have eaten him instead of him dying as a pancake?

Not Duncan Jr. Duncan's long lost brother.

What was with the camera work with that guy, anyways? Every time he talks he turns and faces away from the character. Preferably at something symbolic like a fire, or cage. What gives?

I don't know if I'm just misremembering, but isn't freeing him from his cell optional? I haven't tried just ignoring him and exiting the room, but if it's possible and you leave him there to rot what happens?

I think Riordan is extremely badass.

Duncan got owned by an Ogre. This guy nearly killed an Archdemon.

No it isn't optional.

When you enter the room a cutscene triggers, and Riordan frees himself.

Good point, so I think maybe Duncan Jr. is sort of an insult.  Maybe instead we call him French Duncan?

They have so little screen time to make him seem so very intellegent and deep, heh.

Actually, Duncan got killed by one of those Alpha Genlock guys. The ogre didn't even get a hit in, just got stabbed a bunch of times and fell over.

Riordan is my favorite character in this game, hands down. Everything about him is cool. I wish it was possible to save him, I would sacrifice any party member in order for him to live.

I was so excited at the end because i thought that either:

A. He was going to join the party
B. Me him and Alistair were going to 3 man the archdemon

Then he went all hero and got himself bucked off...........

True shame........so glad i found him in that prison cell though.

Wait, does it mean it's optional to free him ?

Indeed he is. Especially the part where he is charging against the darkspawn in Denerim. And of course the Archdemon scene.

Well to be fair to Duncan, in DA:O, since the world scales with you, Riordan was only that much more uber than Duncan because of the part of the plot he shows up in ;)

But I do think he's a cool character, just think that it's sort of annoying at how the game is so fatalistic with all of the NPCs EXCEPT the ones that I don't like.

I don't think it's optional. He's a cutscene on the way to Howe.

No.

If you recall, you don't even free him, you just startle the guard long enough for Riordan to take care of business.

Riordan strikes me as badass, but what I really feel is:

Every single Warden you encounter that ISN'T you or Alistair is a Rambo with blades.

It's like the world would just be safe if you had at least 2 Wardens a country.

As long as they NEVER talk to a Grey Warden that has a camera 5 feet behind them. Then you only have about 3 scenes to live.
