If I purchase a new copy that comes with a Cerberus Network code, will it still work?  Meaning, will I still have access to the free content like extra character and extra gear?  Official answer appreciated.

Good luck in waiting for any BioWare employee to come in here and answer your question then.....

Sorry for the tone. Couldn't resist. (But seriously, official personnel rarely venture onto the console boards though they may venture onto the PC boards. Some like EA_AgentX has been known to pop up from time to time but not recently.)

As long as the game is new and the code is unused, then yes it will work. It's what the Cerberus Network code is meant to do; it gives you access to a certain set of dlcs available to purchasers of a new copy of the game. Keep things simply for yourself and redeem in the game. Some have tried to redeem via the website but I think it makes things a touch awkward. Make sure you're using the correct accounts and everything beforehand to minimize any potential errors (also check out the sticky about linking accounts and stuff).

However, the Cerberus News Network is now over so don't expect any new news items upon connection. That 'promotion' ended a long time ago.

Just wanted to avoid rampant speculation. Recently got a used copy but wouldn't mind paying the extra money for a new copy with the DLC. My understanding was that Cerberus Network is being shutdown / has been shutdown, is it just the news portion that this applies to?

Yes. The news portion (the Cerberus News Network) shut down a while ago; it was active for a week or so just before Lair of the Shadow Broker was released.

The actual dlcs the code allows you to redeem will still be available.

Now...whether people meant the servers have been shut down in referring to the Cerberus Network is a different matter. Speculation is that EA has limited the number of servers dealing with old(er) games, and there has been quite a lot of connection to the server problems which suggests that that is true. You can still redeem your dlcs though.

Also...depending how much a new copy will cost you, have a look on the XBox Live marketplace for the Cerberus Network to see if that works out any cheaper.
