Just tried this for a lark at the spider queen in the Paragon quest, as I was having a bit of trouble with that boss with my usual party (my Bard/Duellist Rogue, Tank, Mori, Wynne), so I thought I'd try something wacky, and it worked very well in that boss fight.  I have to say it's a ton of fun, and I've been carrying on that quest with this party combination.  Just thought I'd flag this for anyone who'd been wondering if anything other than the same old same old combination is viable - it certainly is (on Normal, at least)!

Tactical note: I generally scout ahead for traps, etc., and pull back to group, hit Ctrl+A and hammer the mobs all on one.  Even in big scraps the all-on-one thing works pretty well - just target one mob after the other, they fall like skittles.  As a rogue I generally try to flank, but the neat thing is, in a scrap, my boys tend to surround the mob anyway, so someone's always hitting the mobs from behind, even if it isn't me.  Tactics all set to Scrapper and Aggressive, but I don't let anyone chase.

But the main thing is it doesn't require much pausing and micromanagement, it's hugely entertaining to watch, what with all the great melee anims, and it's really, really noisy! :o

Mages?  Pah! - who needs em'!

not sure you'll be able to handle the brood mother without a dedicated healer or at least 20 odd healing pots. She just puts out way too much damage. And the final fight will be pretty tough considering golum are ultra resistant to physical damage and that's all you have going for you.

Yeah this game needs an extra rogue and extra mage, it limits your possible party combinations so much.

As for the 4 melee, well thats awesome, must take a lot of health potions tho. Try on nightmare next, I personally think it is viable even in nightmare with careful planing and a lot of scavenging/pickpocketing for poultices.

Not sure about dragons but it is definatly viable for everything else, I sometimes use it early on in my playtroughs on nigthmare(me/alister/sten/dog), warriors tend to be stronger than others early on when characters don't have many abilities/spells. Your lack of CCs becuase of the early game is compensated by extra survivability.

Yeah, I do something similar as well. I use my shield/sword warrior, with Alistair configured the same way, and Shale, switching between offensive attacker and defensive tank. Wynne's my healer. Works pretty well, except that using crown control is harder. So I sometimes set up traps using glyphs. But now I'm considering switching Leliana in as a stealth-archer once in while, so I can steal and pick locks.

With 2 warriors and 1 rogue all DW and me on my mage I cast death hex and stood there as she died in about 10s. It was awesome. No heals or pots necessary. I don't see any issue having a 4th in there instead of the mage for death hex... might want to ensure a mark of death is thrown on though.

we must be playing a different game.  Or you're playing on a difficulty level I didn't know existed.  I fought the brood mother with Morrigan, Ohgren, Sten and my assassin build.  She doesn't go down in 10s. on normal.  Not even close.  You have to fight her tentacles or they kill you pretty quickly.  And it takes about 10s a piece for each tentacle.  The Brood Mother herself would probably take 5 minutes assuming I never had to fight her tentacles or darkspawn adds.

Uggh, some of the boss fights in this game are just battles of attrition. Especially the dragons and the broodmother.

You need to read up on what death hex does, and then think about why DW would take MASSIVE advantge of that.  I doubt the 10s part, but I'm sure that was an exaggeration and not the actual time.  Though I suspect it dropped very quickly.

Yeah I have to admit, with a bit more experience with this party, I doubt it would be viable on Nightmare.  Mainly because not enough CC.

Still, it's a hell of a lot of fun to play with just playing the game on Normal.
