Don't think anyone ever really thought this on the forums. I think the majority do agree that templars are needed to look after mages but having them locked inside a tower and not giving them much freedom to live their lives is definately a bad thing.Blacklash93 wrote...
I don't think the templars being dicks really voids their point on mages. They are still very dangerous individuals that can't be left to take care of themselves with no supervision. Their unchained freedom would mean chaos for all of Thedas and the Templars and Seekers have good reason to fear that.

Well, I don't know what the next game will focus on, and again, I'll have to look up the details once the book is officially released, but so far from the bullet points, he screams 'Hey. I'm evil and uncompromising.'Dave of Canada wrote...

Dunno, we don't get a lot of info on him but an extremist who's views are biased by past experience (Tevinter?) doesn't really scream evil to me, as he's essentially Fenris but in a position of power. Uncompromising? I'd think that, yeah. Though I assume we're probably going to have uncompromising people on both sides.
Whether this screams villain material to me depends which side of the war you fall upon. I'd enjoy possibly working with him until all is said and done before possibly getting rid of him if ever he becomes a liability (uncompromising works to a certain extent).
For example, I'd support him (assuming the brief bulletpoints are true) if his agenda is that he wants is to stop the mages and wishes to replace the Divine with somebody willing to do her duty. If he wishes to kill all mages, I'd support him until my agenda is satisfied.

It has nothing to do with religion, anybody who thinks they are right will be ****s. Mage, Templar, Orlesian, Ferelden, Player. It's all the same, as anybody who thinks they can do what they want because its justified often times show their true colors.
Or do you think mages won't justify themselves with the sake of "freeedddddooooommm!"?
Yeah but William Wallace was right, England was unworthy to control scotland as seen by the fact they needed a unification of armies to combat the threat.. and still almost lost. And their King was a ***** and his son was a weak idiot

To quote Steven Weinberg : "With or without religion, good people can behave well and bad people
can do evil; but for good people to do evil—that takes religion. "

Look dear, I know you're biased and you might have a thing against religious folk--I've got no problem with that if you keep it to yourself--just keep it out on online discussions referencing a fictional setting, okay?

Wait I'm confused. So are The Lord Seeker and Knight-Vigilant the same guy? does he hold both titles or something? Because you said he has control over the Knight-Commanders which is what the Knight-Vigilant has
I may be wrong but it appears at least that the Seekers are in a manner of speaking the Military Police of the Templars so Knight Commanders answer to the Knight Vigilant , who in turn answers to the Lord Seeker who in turn answers to The Divine

Why not ? Fictional or not religous fanatiscm is cuase of the problems here. BTW your willing to join the very people who have started the massive bloodshed. And for no appearent reason it seems. So my question is this: are you insane? that you wish strict mage control is one thing joining the lord-seeker another thing entirely

I have to say that I can't see the problem you are having with discussing religious aspects in a fictional setting ... where almost all humans are religious. In a reply you state that religion has nothing to do with the behaviour of the templars, whereas in my opinion it does. In this whole mage-templar conflict a lot of situations will boil down to persons who, in order to get what they want, have to do something that contradicts their moral values. Non-religious people have the luxury to be moral and give up what they want because the price to pay is too high. In contrast, if the religion of a person demands him to do something he would consider immoral, he has a big problem. He has to forsake his religion, which partly defines him, or just do it. Sadly, history has showed us which option is the popular one.

****BIG SPOILER ... ****
As of the very end of the book, let's just say the Lord Seeker featured in the novel is no longer in the picture. However, I guess that does mean they'll need to elect a new leader ... which could be very interesting!
I received my hard copy last Friday from Amazon UK. The novel is currently listed on there as being available/in stock, and that it'll be delivered in a couple of days - even though if you scroll down it still lists the release date as 23/12.

What about the Knight-Vigilant, is he still alive and kicking in the end? does he really have much to do with the book?

And even if they want to make the Circle some autonomous institution, what nation in their right mind would let them set up shop within their borders? Especially if they're without any external oversight from the Templars, considering all the crap in Kirkwall was started by a nutso mage that let himself get possessed?
According to the Magi boon, King Alistair and Queen Anora.

History has also showed us how certain athiests cant seem to shut up about real world religion in unrelated topics when nobody asked for or cares about their real life opinions.. otherwise they would have asked
Basically what you are saying is that the discussion about the influence of religion on the behaviour of templars is off-topic. You are right and as such I will not continue this discussion.
However, under the assumption your comment is directed to me, as indicated by the beginning of your sentence, I would point out that I merely picked in into the discussion DKJ and DoC were having throughout this topic, while you gave your opinion on the cause of William Wallace merely because the word "freeedddddooooommm" apeared in a post.
Kind regards,
