True but when you do over use something it does lose it's power after awhile.  It's like if a football team kept using the same play over and over again (obviously more variables in a football game then ME3 but you get what Im saying right)?

i really hope this doesn't happen every level.

And that's essentially my issue with it. When I first saw the technique used in the Anderson/Earth demo I thought it was really well done, with the shockwave and intensity and all. Now it's just gotten to the point where it's already lost its impact before the game is even out. Seeing that "trailer" just made me think, "Seriously? Again with that?"

Yeah, that's usually how over-the-top and michael baysplosion type events go...they just keep coming..
..and coming..

...and coming..

Something I'll agree with you on.
Galaxy at War = GOW Horde Mode.

I like Gears of Was as Gears of War. I don't like Mass Effect as Gears of Effect.

Is there anyone that forces you to play that particular part of the game? Is there anything that indicates that ME3's war story will be a complete rip-off of Gears of War?

Or is it just because Shepard has finally stopped being such a colossal stiff-ass and actually learned to dodge what's coming at him?

Or is it because Shepard is shooting people? Like he's always done?

Tell me, Something With Mass, have you ever actually spoken with an active-duty soldier in real life? Want to know something that they're told to never do in a firefight, save a few special occasions?

Roll. Great way to land flat on your butt. More show than practicality. But since Gears of War had it, Mass Effect 3 must.

Well, in all honestly I really don't play Mass Effect for realism. I play it to be taken away from realism, and the roll mechanic is a great way to get to point A to point B fast in a cover based game. Mass Effect is just taking what Gears did and making it something of it's own. Just as Gears took the cover system from Killswitch and made it it's own. A lot of people forget that Gears took Killswitch's cover system and made it a one button thing (A button) instead of the three button system Killswitch had.

However, I do agree with everything else you said in this thread.

Gears of War actually breathed life back into Killswitch's system, which seemed to be long-forgotten. Glad to know I'm not the only person who remembers that.

However, ME3 doesn't make the mechanic its own. In fact, it even has the press Y to ANGRY EYE ICON!...and it looks almost exactly like the one from GOW, minus a few wrinkles.

That argument is so weak.

It's a video game and last time I checked, Mass Effect disavowed any attempts at being realistic when it introduced FTL flight and the instantaneous travels from one part of the galaxy to another via the mass relay network.

Or how a mysterious material can decrease or increase an object's mass without altering its shape or form, for that matter.

If you want realistic combat, you're really barking up the wrong tree.

I find ME3 multiplayer is more akin to Assassins Creed Revelations due to it actually connecting to the story more (ME3 more so than Assassins Creed) and actually being relevant to the lore. Funny thing is I find multiplayer in Assassins Creed fun as hell. The only fault is the loading.

It's not so much realistic combat that I'm asking for, but thanks for the attempted insult. You and I both know that wasn't what I was getting at.

I just want something smarter than: Roll, shoot, roll, explode, roll.

True enough, but a lot of games are doing that now. Assault Horizon's had the Y button looky mechanic as does Mirrors Edge in some levels. Don't get me wrong, some of the things ME3 is implementing are just plain stupid, and that's coming from a massive Mass Effect fan who has spend a least a grand on memorobilia. However, I think Mass Effect 3 will be all we hoped for and more, I just think we need to be open and hope it isn't influanced to much by outside sources. Some are fine, but to be a clone is not.

There is a very fine line between streamlining and dumbing-down (Which is what ME2 did in most aspects). This is the primary concern of most Mass Effect 1 fans, having seen what Gears of War is, not having a problem that it is a TPS with all of the said elements, but to see almost all of them chucked into Mass Effect, while ripping out more of the intellectual and/or tactical elements, making it into something that was never really meant to be.

I'm fine with Gears of War, as Gears of War. I'm not fine with Mass Effect trying to be Gears of War.

Strong word but it really doesn't disgust me it just seems kind of out of no where but at the same time Bioware did kind of say they needed a way to put in the game that would make sense in regards to story. Story wise it can work but it would have been better if it was a separate story like Revelations (which you should get since its really fun although the last cinematic felt off and cheap). When I first of MP in Assassins Creed I felt it was likely not going to be that good but ever since playing it I was proven wrong.

We are talking about it because people can't help but get off topic. :P

Yep, the MP in AC was quite refreshing. Worth giving it a shot.

Likewise, you should probably wait and see with the full game before making a final judgement on ME3's multiplayer.

As for me, I like any sort of co-op.

People are really praising the Reach campaign story?

I love the Halo series but the story just was not that good and could be considered by some to be the worst in the series (but not the worst out there).

Stay classy BSN.

@Ghost

The only thing I would have a disliking for is if Mass Effect 3 tried to be something it wasn't. So far it seems fine, and I played the alpha build at Comic-Con. It wasn't like Gears of War to be honest, it felt like Mass Effect 2 with some added features. The Y button thing was a but much, I agree, but it's something I can overlook if I have to.

The thing that really worries me is the mode settings. IE, story mode, action mode and RPG mode. Why add these? Do they really need to dumb Mass Effect 3 down to that degree? The logic EA and Bioware have right now is absurd. Trying to sell Mass Effect to people who have never played the first two games is ridiculous because Mass Effect relies on those other games to build it's own story that YOU the player made. Chances are if you haven't played the other two games you see no reason to lay the third and no amount of COD shoehorning will change that. It's just EA, trying to get a piece of COD's and every other shooter's pie. EA would make more money if it tried to be it's own thing, rather than copying someone else. I remember when Dead Space and Mirror's Edge came out, EA's stocks were very high because investors saw the potential for a new and changed EA. I know, because I had stock in them back them. However, now we have them supporting SOPA and having this mentality that everything needs an online pass or needs action, gun, shoot and explosions to be a good game. Well EA, I would like to point you to Skyrim, but you wont listen. Now, EA's share revenue is down almost twice as much as it was up during it's new IP year, and I'm sad to say I'm no longer investing in the company until I see some radical changes.
