If your going to complain about something, make it a legitimate argument and explain in detail about how its affecting your gaming or immersion or whatever. Not so and so is dumb because I don't like it.

I come on during my break at work and all I see are the same five posters in a forum complaining about some minor detail.

But it is immersion-breaking, if only for the fact that it starts to get so overdone it ends up pulling you out of the game. That's my point.

And I never said it was "dumb because I don't like it" because I did actually like it the first time and thought it was well done. It's the fact that we've seen the same thing happen again and again in half the clips we've seen. It's not bad, it's just overdone, and by being overdone it loses it's impact entirely. We've seen it happen three times already in what amounts to probably about an hours worth of gameplay. How many more times is it going to be in the 30-40 hours of gameplay in the final game if that's the case?

I'm just trying to let BioWare know that if they have this happening on almost every planet like it seems, it's going to go from a neat little pre-scripted event and become annoying and repetitive. The way it's looking, it could become the Mass Effect 3 equivalent of Skyrim's "arrow to the knee" meme:

"I'd have stopped the Reapers faster, but they kept shaking the ground and making me tumble down some broken debris" -- Shepard.

On top of it all, it may seem like a small factor to you, but personally I was annoyed and taken out of the game so many times with ME2 largely due to a lot of little niggles. So many so it was hardly to really enjoy the game for any extended period of time before something came along to rip me out of it. Little things add up, and while a bee sting may be mildly annoying, dozens of them becomes more serious.

As far as I know after observing this little video footage Shepard can tumble/dodge/roll with press of a button when he is coming out of cover and running. I just don't see that problem with tumbling as it will be even more repetitive.

There's a big difference between a common core gameplay mechanic you control directly being used a lot and a scripted set-piece that's attempting to be impressive and make the world feel alive and dynamic being used again and again and again ad nauseum.

It would be like if every mission planet in ME1 ended with the same "escape the collapsing cave" scenario that  was at the end of Therum when you got Liara. You activate the purge on Noveria and then afterwards you and your squad have to run back to the surface from falling rocks. You defeat the Thorian on Feros and suddenly there's a cave-in and you and your squad have to run to the surface to avoid falling rocks. You run to get to the Normandy on Virmire before the bomb goes off, but there's a cave-in started and you have to run to the surface away from falling rocks. You speak to Vigil on Ilos who tells you about Saren, and then a cave-in is triggered and you rush to the relay to escape falling rocks.

Sounds repetitive, boring and overdone, right? That's the sense I'm getting from seeing this in three gameplay videos now:

On Earth Shepard and Anderson run to The Normandy, but a blast shakes them and they tumble down some crumbling structure he was standing on. On Rannoch (?) Shepard paints a laser target, and the blast shakes him and he tumbles down some crumbling structure he was standing on. On Tuchanka Shepard has to get to a tower, but the ground near him is blasted and he tumbles down some crumbling structure he was standing on.

This topic only makes me want to see the future reviews of ME3 all the more. *grin*

Let's hope ME3 doesn't fail as much as DA2 did. Boy, that game just was one big dissapointment.

(in before zee sh*tstorm...hide yer chickens!)

There won't be much sh*tflinging over DAII -- near everyone agrees that it was a colossal disappointment.

I am going to admit that I don't understand the complaint here. What has happened to the Mass Effect series, whilst clearly unsatisfying to some, is nowhere near what happened to Dragon Age. DA started as an old-school, tactical RPG, then, somewhere in sequel development, became a action-oriented, button-mash hack-n-slash with more emphasis on style than depth. Mass Effect, on the other hand, was an action RPG/Space Opera/Shooter hybrid whose shooty bits were poorly executed. In ME2, the shooting was refined (at the admitted detriment of the RPG elements, though I say to hell with that bloody terribad inventory), and more focus was placed on action. ME3 seems to be continuing in this manner, but with more RPG elements promised.

I don't see the crime in refining the gameplay. Whilst I agree that there is something that was lost from the atmosphere between ME1 and ME2 (and I believe ME1 was the better game), it's not entirely unexpected considering we are transitioning from the unwitting protagonist stumbling into a dark secret to a galactic total war in which losing means extinction. It's difficult to preserve that same ontological, ethereal air when "explosions, explosions everywhere" are somewhat of necessity. I will say that I think the reaper invasion would have been better handled if BioWare went the cosmic survival/horror route (the reapers are eldritch abominations, after all) and avoided showing the fighting so much as its effects. Shepard and her/his crew traversing a desolate galaxy, looking for the answer to the reaper question, and being forced to watch civilian families being ripped apart and huskified (and consequently forced to kill them), having to choose which settlements/colonies to save and which weren't worth keeping for the war effort (and having to see and live with those choices), would have much more of an impact than impersonal fighter ships getting themselves exploded every second. The former is what I expected of the galactic war, given ME1 -- like the story of the protheans, one that centred on survival rather than assault. In ME1, the reapers seemed like a philosophical question to me, deeply rooted in eschatology, something bordering metaphysical. I didn't expect that their origin would ever be revealed (maybe because I took Sovereign's sh*t-talking mostly at face value), but since it has, and the reapers are far from what I expected, the blow-'em-up approach seems mostly justified.

So I don't mind what's become of the Mass Effect series; all that I've seen really change is the combat which -- really -- doesn't matter much to me, since I don't usually enjoy shooters, and I value story over all else. The gameplay is just a bonus. It's not like DA, which not only overhauled the fighting so completely as to change the genre, but was notably lacked in story depth and execution (seriously, Hawke's family dying left and right and not a single sh*t was given because the characters were too busy being smartasses). Mass Effect may have defied your expectations, but it hasn't actually "changed" much outside of abandoning a few RPG elements that we are allegedly getting back, with interest, in the third instalment.

I can already see Smudboy's criticism of ME3 main gist: Shep tumbled 4 times too many.

Yeah, that's it! Can't wait!

Yeah it's repetitive. But in a good mood. Like a private joke, or a new meme. "I should go".

You wanna complain on how the sun is positioned in Mass Effect too?

Actually yes, I do.

In Mass Effect when on the moon, not only are Earth's continents reversed, but the sun is completely absent. Now, unless the moon was in transition into a full solar/lunar eclipse when Shepard was on the surface there is absolutely no way the sun would not be visible Why do you think NASA issues solar protective gear to the astronauts? Solar radiation and the uncompromised view of solar flares without atmosphere would not only blind someone but cause irreversible radiation damage.

And lets not even go into Mass Effect 2, and how the event horizon of the black hole during the endgame mission would swallow up everything within several light years of the disk.

UNREALISTIC! God I hate Mass Effect so much because of this malarkey, I just want to throw myself out of a window and land on hard pavement.

(And that is what we call an entiled gamer, ladies and gents.)

Um, your numbers are off.  The radius of the event horizon of the Black Hole at the center of the Universe is only about 33 Km.  Heck, if all the mass in the entire galaxy was dumped into the Black Hole, you'd only get an Event Horizon of about .2 LY.

And what the frak was he trying to communicate with his moon babbling? Was he actually saying that you couldn't possibly be on the moon at night and see the full Earthshine? Jesus, ignorant arrogance is so annoying.

Ah yeah, I missed that "black hole at the center of the universe" bit. Kinda hilarious, but I think it was a gaffe. Apropos, do you knew that if you smashed the entire universe's mass into a black hole, the resulting event horizon would be greater than the observable universe? Yeah, astrophysics maths is strange just like that.

Meant to say "Black Hole at the center of the Galaxy."

I should not post when I'm busy checking my email every 30 seconds for my SWTOR Guild's Server assignment...

From reading the spoilers file: "every goddamn second". 90% of the story is "Shepard narrowly escapes"

Haha yeah, I'm okay with Bioware showing us the devastating destructive powers of the Reapers...provided they don't cause Shepard to react the same exact way every time they pew-pew.

I mean I know the Reapers are calculative, but...

I like the idea of a changing environment but if it always leads to Shepard dramatically tumbling down to a new level it's going to get tedious. The mars trailer did look good though.

Nah, It's just Harby's stuff. Remember his "Bend to us"? And why haven't we seen Harby in ME3 yet? Because he is crying because Shep doesn't bend to him and the reapers are just very supportive with that they said: "Hey, make Shep bend to us my making him fall, that should make Harby happier".

Actually games are still like that for people who are actually sane. Just ignore those who wish to claim that your favorite series will be ruined because it involves shooting or a feature other games use. You know like aiming, sprinting leveling etc. :P

You know what is stranger?

Scientists recently were able to pull photons of light out of a vacuum of space. They basically pulled something away from nothing.

I say magic exists lol.

Maybe its designed to show how powerful the reapers are compared to shepard? When next to a reaper shepard stumbles and falls. When against regular mooks he steamrolls over them.

In QM the vacuum isn't really "nothing" in the way most people think.

So basically they pulled photons out of an area where they theoretically shouldn't be found.

Maybe the vacuum's energy state isn't as defined as some think? Either way its still something that I wouldn't have expected at all but then again its science!

what ive noticed from all these trailers is that its going to be extremely hard for someone to say ME3 isnt a cover based shooter. im sure someone will make a ME3 version of berserker mode without using cover, but its like every trailer, or demo or whatever, only features combat from cover.

im not complaining. its just feels like the only way to play ME3, is to enter cover, then start playing. but im sure ill prolly be in cover alot at first in ME3. not because i think ill suck, but becaseu its gonig to actually feel alot better being in cover in ME3.

ill prolly jump and roll around for atleast 15 minutes as soon as i get controll of shepard for the first time. im guaranteeing that.

Better to be a cover-based shooter than a bunny-hopping and dancing shooter.
