I just realized that all of my "main" character saves are based almost completely on my Love Interests in the ME and ME3. I have three ME characters based on the following:

Paragon Sentinel with Liara relationship

Paragon Soldier with Ashley relationship

Renegade Soldier with no relationship

My ME2 character saves are as follows:

Paragon Sentinel who had relationship with Liara and remains loyal to Liara in ME2

Paragon Sentinel who had releationship with Liara in ME and has relationship with Miranda in ME2

Paragon Soldier who had relationship with Ashley and remains loyal to Ashley (despite he attitude problem in ME2)

Paragon Soldier who had relationship with Ashley in ME and had relationship with Tali in ME2.

Renegade Soldier who had no relationship in ME but has relationship with Jack in ME2.

Renegade Soldier who had no relationship in ME but has relationship with Miranda in ME2.

The weird thing is that most of these characters are virtually identical. The Renegade characters made some choices that the Paragons didn't, but overall the only "MAJOR" difference between any of these characters are the love interests.

Am I the only one who has multiple playthroughs where the only "real" difference between the characters/saves is the LI?

Maybe.

I ran a Male Shepard thru ME 1 & 2 just to get the Paramour Achievement. Poor Ash. She never can get a break (4 main Shepards, and she got virmired in all of them).

Female Shepard Adept, Kaidan LI, Loyal in ME 2
Female Shepard Infiltrator, Kaidan LI, Loyal in ME 2
Female Shepard Soldier, Kaidan as LI, Loyal in ME 2
Male Shepard Adept, No LI in ME 1, Tali in ME 2

Angel Shepard nb.1: colonist, war hero, paragon. No LI at ME1 / romanced Thane at ME2.

Angel Shepard nb.2: colonist, war hero, paragon. No LI at ME1 / romanced Jacob at ME2.

Angel Shepard nb.3: take a wild guess.

Mostly it's done to see all the dialogues from some character - that's right, to know someone better, Shepards must w**** themselves.

The second factor is that I just like replaying Mass Effect games. 10 almost identical Alyson Shepards (from 27 playthroughs) are proof enough.

ME2: Soldier, Tali

ME2: Sentinel, Miranda.

ME2: Vanguard, Tali

It isn't really cheating if Ash hates me and I told Kelly what we had was over, right?
