I am having a hard time finding anywhere if its safe to patch the game purchased through Origin. Has anyone done this? I know steam automatically updates the game but Origin appears to just have version 1.0.

Here you go:
Dragon Age 2 Patch v1.03

Edit: Silly me, read that wrong the first time. Fixed it. Scroll down towards the bottom of the page for the download link.

Thanks DJRackham. I know where to download what patches, what I want to make sure of is that I will still be able to play the game once I do. I purchased and launch DA2 through Origin and I'm not sure if there's any kind of checksum or DRM that would stop the game from running if I patched it or applied the high res texture pack.

Absolutely the same patch process whether your install is retail disc or Origin: download and run.
