Admittedly, in the past few years I haven't gotten into gaming much.  Here recently, however, I've had a bit of downtime.  I have taken advantage of the rest beginning with the Witcher Enhanced Edition, then the Witcher 2 and now DA:O Ultimate Edition.  Eventually I will get to DA 2 and Skyrim.

As for DA:O, all I can say is WOW.  Bioware did a fantastic job with this game.  The love they put into this truly shows.  While the graphics are a bit dull, they are not to the point it hurts the game's immersion.  I love the storyline, the main and side quests, but quite possibly the thing I most enjoy is the banter between the characters.  Alistair and Morrigan going back and forth is seriously entertaining.  The fight mechanics brings back images of the Baldur's Gate series (yes, pause is your friend).

I'm only about halfway through (this game is wonderfully long), but just wanted to drop in and say how much I enjoy playing DA:O.

Oh, I also wanted to shout out a thank you to the modders!  You've done a fantastic job. :wizard:

It's a masterpiece that you will not soon forget - and will probably play more than once. LOL.

Enjoy.

OMFG...Ortan Thaig...the golems and spirit warriors...tried running away from the first batch to the other side of the bridge. BIG MISTAKE. Got my arse handed to me! Only my Warden left standing with barely any life yet (Oghren, Morrigan and Leliana all dead), down to but one injury kit and pitiful few health poultices. I dumped all my ingredients at camp to make room for loot.

And I'm pushing on without returning...see how far I can get.

DA:O is incredible! :)

Yep ! DAO is incredible ! :wizard:

And I am saying that, as a casual gamer who never played baldur gate or many other rpgs.  But I know when a game is worth it, that's it. :D

Glad you enjoy It.

I am playing DAO now for the first time too (I am 42 hours into it now). Got the Ultimate Edition from GamesTreeMac for 30 bucks and then saw an offer for DA2 for 10 bucks and got that too.

DAO has been absolutely amazing so far. The game is incredibly fun, has lots of great characters, and immersive story, graphics and very interesting, imaginative environments. The combat is fantastic too, and I like how it keeps you on your toes and the battles demand good thinking/decisions to win most of the time. Also, when fighting and switching to the overhead view, I get fond memories of games like Myth: The Fallen Lords and Myth II: Soulbrighter, which I enjoyed a lot and played for years.

A highlight is clearly the characters and their interactions, they seem like real people and you are always wondering what they have to say. Gives you a sense that they change as the game progresses and that there may always have something new to say. They really did a great job with this.

Also, I can't remember a game where I had to stop and think hard about picking an answer during a dialogue with someone. Considering the implications and anticipating the possible response by the NPC. DAO has done that to me a couple of times already and I love it.

I had a blast with Neverwinter Nights 2, which I finished last month, and DAO so far has been an even better experience. Before that I have enjoyed a lot the Baldur's Gate series and Neverwinter Nights 1, BioWare are truly amazing.

So yeah, DAO rocks.

Call me crazy, but my favorite location has always been the Fade. There's just something crazy fun about running around as a Golem.

That was indeed a lot of fun! Turning into the golem, mouse, burning warrior and mage was very cool and I also like the overall atmostphere of the Fade.

It is fairly good, specially on harder difficulties, and the dialogues are funny as always and not as inconvenient as they were in BG2

Origin's is still my all time favorite game. I sure hope it won't be the last of it's kind, but considering DA2's direction, it just might be. As for the fade, a lot of people ripped on it because it seemed too long to them, but that was were you gained a lot of skill points and really set yourself apart from the rest of your party.

Fricking gave me the chills. I was like wtf??? :)

Dead Trenches are the BOMB. Forge master battle...whoa, wow, and crossing the bridge after meeting the Legions of the Dead...talk about a challenge!

I'm going through my sixth (and sadly, final) playthrough of DAO right now, and it's still as fun as the first time I did it. :) The incredible differences in NPC reaction you get based on your Origin story make each one a unique experience.

Ah, yes...the way leading up to the Broodmother was epic. Rather easy boss however.

Outstanding game, one of the last CRPGs made from Bioware. (Mass Effect doesn't count as it's a hybrid.) I do however, caution you on DA2, because everything you loved about DAO was left out of DA2...I'd get Skyrim first, and wait for the mods to catch up and fix the issues with DA2 before purchasing. I'd say get the GOTY vers..But..

Takezeo,

Yeah, I (unfortunately) got DA 2. I tried playing it during this, my first play-through of DA:O, to avoid natural bias since the choices in DA:O didn't seem to matter. Honestly, DA 2 bores me to tears, I do not like the new art direction, and Hawke as my character just did nothing for me. I doubt I will return to it.

I'm getting on another writing kick after redesigning my fantasy world website, and will have little enough time for one game. That's Origins all the way until it's wrapped up. I'm having so much fun with it I might go through for an immediate replay through before moving onto Skyrim.

The Deep Roads, man, what a rush. I just wrapped up Anvil. Talk about some hard and exciting battles!
