Late To DA:O...WOW!

Simply the best 70+ hours I have spent in a game in a long time. I am all for loading a saved file before the final stage and completing more sidequests but I need a little break as I started this game right after finishing Neverwinter NIghts 2 and I got Demon Souls to look forward too when it arrives (hopefully) tomorrow.
Hats off to Bioware for another masterpiece.
I have heard that DA 2 is a let down (I got it too), if so that's quite sad since the world and culture of DAO is such a rich and solid foundation for making a great sequel, specially considering the ending of Origins.

Fricking gave me the chills. I was like wtf???
Ah, yes...the way leading up to the Broodmother was epic. Rather easy boss however.
I was a little surprised by that, but the rest of the Deep Road areas more than made up for it.

I just finished my first play through and I am simply blown away by this game. An absolute blast from start to finish. Don't want to spoil anything as this is a no spoilers forum but damn all the last part leading up to the final boss was just epic. The transitions from cutscenes to in game graphics was well done and quite smooth all the time.

I played a bit of DA 2 while taking a break from Origins. I cannot get myself to play any more of DA 2. Hopefully, you'll have a better experience with it.

I'm using quite a bit of mods but a few more can't hurt.
Thank you for the list and taking the time to link it.

Call me crazy, but my favorite location has always been the Fade. There's just something crazy fun about running around as a Golem.
That was indeed a lot of fun! Turning into the golem, mouse, burning warrior and mage was very cool and I also like the overall atmostphere of the Fade.
Indeed. Constantly switching between the various forms was great fun (loved fireballing Arcane Horrors to death
Didn't like the Fade at all, though; I wasn't able to figure out initially where to go, and it proved to be incredibly maddening. It's definitely my least-favourite part of the game.

That disembodied voice was plain creepy.
Agreed re: the Broodmother. Like the final boss fight in the game, this one wasn't hard, merely complicated.

There are endless paths to choose - beginning with each origin. Then there are different choices in quests you can make.
Swap out your party members in each area to catch all the hilarious party banter that goes on with your companions.
DAO is the best value for money game I have ever bought, so far.

Going to see the Arl first now that I've finished the Brecilian forest.
Did you too have a mini-heart attack when a certain *something* dropped right in front of you out of nowhere in the ruins? Kicked my arse properly, that thing did, but at least it helped me discover the 'choke point' tactic.
I'm checking out the other origin stories now (was an elvish mage on my 1st playthrough), and I just completed the city elf origin story. Wow. It has so many parallels with real life (the suffering of the downtrodden; the rich & powerful always having their way with impunity). And Vaughan is, in the words of Tuco, a "dirty son of a...".

Mass Effect was the first game I've ever completed besides Tetris on the Nintendo in the 90's LOL. Not trying to get all off topic but it lead me to play DA:O. When I first got my Ultimate Edition disc I was slightly bored and disappointed- I was missing my space opera fix badly. Then I was insanely bored IRL and out of books to read (my other hobby) and decided to give it another go. I'm so glad I did. I'm so in love with DA:O that I purchased the UE for my XBOX360, the UE for PC and I also DL'ed DA2.
DA2 has to live up to my ex boyfriend who is just..well..missed entirely too much and his name is DA:O. But I still enjoy playing it. I hate less on DA2 than many others with the hope that Bioware will have the disappointing issues ironed out for DA3.

Admittedly, in the past few years I haven't gotten into gaming much. Here recently, however, I've had a bit of downtime. I have taken advantage of the rest beginning with the Witcher Enhanced Edition, then the Witcher 2 and now DA:O Ultimate Edition. Eventually I will get to DA 2 and Skyrim.
As for DA:O, all I can say is WOW. Bioware did a fantastic job with this game. The love they put into this truly shows. While the graphics are a bit dull, they are not to the point it hurts the game's immersion. I love the storyline, the main and side quests, but quite possibly the thing I most enjoy is the banter between the characters. Alistair and Morrigan going back and forth is seriously entertaining. The fight mechanics brings back images of the Baldur's Gate series (yes, pause is your friend).
I'm only about halfway through (this game is wonderfully long), but just wanted to drop in and say how much I enjoy playing DA:O.
Oh, I also wanted to shout out a thank you to the modders! You've done a fantastic job.
Welcome there !
Witcher, Dragon Age, good choices !
Once you finished origin, and awakening, don't forget to try other classes and maybe some mods, the game will live long.
Regards

I'm still torn between Origins and DA 2 as to which is the better game. I know the popular opinion is that DA 2 is crap, but whatever. I found the characters and story (two key aspects of a good RPG in my opinion) more interesting in DA 2 and the game play was more satisfying.
However Dragon Age: Origins was just epic (generic at times, but epic). Having replayed both DA 2 and Origins back-to-back within the past month I do feel DA 2 holds up better with repeated plays (I found the Templars vs Mages tension awesome; at least it's a bit more original than the Tolkien-ish vibe in Origins) but Origins is just damn mind-blowing your first time through the story.
You get a lot of bang for your buck too with the Ultimate Edition. As stand-alone items the DLC content wasn't really worth it (over-priced compared to what you get out of them), but $30 or $40 for Origins, Awakening, and all the DLC is an incredible value.
Plus there's a lot to do when you replay the game. You can make different choices (such as aiding the werewolves over the elves), try to unlock the remaining specialties, and try different classes and parties (like using Shale as your tank instead of Alistair).
I'd put Origins up there with games like Chrono Trigger or the original Bioshock in the sense that the first time you play it you're getting a really special and memorable experience. There's plenty of great games, some even better than the three I listed, but experiences like those (at least in my opinion) are few and far between.

I just recently got DAO on the PC (75% Steam sale FTW) been playing DAO since it came out on the Xbox. Since I’ve been upgrading my PC I’ve gone back and started playing the PC games I’ve wanted to try. Going to remake my Arcane Warrior build from the Xbox.
You're going to have a much better experience with it on the PC judging by what I saw when a friend played it on the XBOX.
