What was that class in the DA2 trailer?

The DA2 trailer (Hawke vs. big-bad-Qunari) really appealed to me and I want to make a class like it.  At first I thought it was a 2-handed warrior class due to all the swordplay and dancing, but apparently, it seems to be a mage class.  Is that right?

I just earned 1 specialization point on my mage Hawke and I am wondering where to put it.  Spirit Healer is definitely out since I'm not doing that build, but looking at the Blood Mage tree, it doesn't seem to tie in with the blood magic that was going on at the end of the trailer where he used blood magic to tear the Qunari apart.  Or am I just missing something here?

That leaves Force Mage, which just screams "bad ass!!" with the damage-dealing spells in it, but then again, this doesn't seem to be the mage Hawke in the trailer...

Any help appreciated.

I won't bet a kidney on it, but I think that Trailer!Hawke is, in fact, a blood mage. I've read that the spell ripping the arishok apart is a finishing move of the crushing prison spell and that it only works if certain conditions are met. There is a thread about it here. :3

Mage Hawke also uses that move to finish off the Ogre in the exaggerated opening.

But yeah, trailer Hawke is a mage.

Thanks guys. So if that spell were Crushing Prison, then what use is Blood Magic to a mage Hawke in the trailer then? I mean, Crushing Prison isn't a blood magic spell...

Because it looks cool. ;) I mean, if my opponent started cutting himself open while glaring with evil, red-glowing eyes, it would certainly make an impression on me. Besides, it fits more for a Hawke who is already preoccupied with blood to smear it over his nose than for the other specializations and classes, don't you think?

Plus, he seems to have exhausted his standard mana-supply throughout the fight, so the only way to cast that spell would have been to dip of the power of his own blood to power the spell. Or it was his method of overclocking as standard spells didn't seem to work that great on the Arishok.

Point taken. Yeah, tapping into his blood power makes sense. Wear out the enemy first then use CP as a finishing move.

Hawke used his blood to power the Crushing Prison spell. Blood magic isn't just the abilities associated with it. Blood magic is also about using blood as a substitute for lyrium to power regular spells.

That's Blood Mage Hawke using the Staff of Parlathan, in the trailer. A few staves in DA 2 actually have blades at one end. I've always thought that's the most sensible method of disguising a magic staff so that people don't go "Oh, you're a mage." on sight.

True, I hadn't thought of that.

Then again, given that we ONLY see them on mages staffs (and not used by standard soldiers) may defeat the purpose of the deception...

Santa Bioware has said that if we're good little boys and girls we might see polearms as weapons in the future.

wait... Bioware is Santa.

The Seeker Staff looks pretty much identical to ones we saw in DA:O, and were reused as the spear models for the Qunari in DA 2, so we've seen that there are spears and polearms in use.

They need to have proper skewering animations. Polearms exist to skewer enemies from behind, you know.

Oh, be still my heart!

Though... the poor reindeer can't possibly be able pull a sleigh huge enough to cart an entire company around the globe. Unless they are radioactively mutated Godzilla-reindeer.

I remember when I first saw the trailer, the way hawk was in melee using magic... I thought they had gone bethesda and removed all classes.
