Had that for shields in me1 I liked it then too!

That was purely an aesthetic thing though.  If max shields increased by a certain amount, another bar appeared on the UI, but it didn't have anything to do with how the shields behaved.

I agree this could slightly hinder aggressive gameplay, We'll just have to see though

Looks like my Vanguard will be stocking up on health and shield upgrades

This makes me hope for armor that adds medigel or allows for total regeneration of health (it keeps going past the 4 dividers), albeit slowly.

If there are health regenerating armor pieces, they better take it slow unlike in ME1, where you could be up to full health in a few seconds if you had the right upgrade.

I believe that this will be a good idea for most classes except the vanguard, who almost always relies on their health being fully regenerated since they are usually 2 feet away from their enemies. This can be corrected with the class points I guess with each level, the vanguard will gain an extra bar of health when regenerating (ex. level 1- 2 bars of health, level 2- 3 bars of health etc.). Also, on insanity the medi-gel should still heal the same because shields go down almost immediately as your just trying to shoot at someone let alone being out in the open. Hmmm... I'll have to be even more careful when I play my engineer on higher difficulties this time around.

I don't know... I think it is actually worst for the Soldier. The reason being that Vanguard uses charge to refill the shields, whereas it made more sense to max your health with the Soldier and use Hardened Adrenaline rush to limit the damage to your health so you could stay out of cover longer and actually fire your weapon.

Ugh. As a casual player all I have to say is please let casual have the old system.

You better hold on tight to those medi-gel packs, then.

I'm not sure I'm a fan of this system (if it is the new health system). It seems to punish aggressive play and reward a reserved style. Still, can't judge something 'til I've played it. Hopefully, the change is for the better.

i gaurantee youll apreciate this.

it doesnt punish being aggresive, it punishes being overly aggressive. you can still play that chargeaholic vangaurd, you just cant OVERplay it. which i think is good. itll mean youll be trying to use differnt methods, other then chargespam.

im also extremely happy about the fact that after taking 6 rockets to the face, sitting in cover for 5 seconds wont erase that from just happeneing. ill be paying the consequences of my prevvious actions, and not have my mistakes erased in 5 seconds hiding in cover.

i like this alot!

It only regenerates so little?

This makes playing my Vanguard more of a challenge. NICE!

Not into medpacks. I don't see how it adds any real challenge. It is just an inconvenience or annoying extra button press to me. It really isn't that deep that I would ever call it extra challenge. Maybe it is just because of how I play.

I do hope that we do regenerate full heath outside of combat at least. In combat limited health regeneration is a good thing as it can add to the difficulty of things.

It didn't regenerate in the beta, even when outside of combat. I hope it stays it this way. Auto-regenerating health is just blaaah

Yeah, Halo 1 had something similar. You had your shields, which always recharged if you went long enough without taking damage, then you had your health bar, under it which wouldn't regenerate without health packs. I really like this approach.

Mass Effect 1 also had this, if you were playing as anythign but solider and not on casual, or had the korgan ally achieve.

I really loved the system in Mass Effect, in Mass Effect two it were okay but took long kinda. If you were low you had to use the Omi-Gel well in Mass Effect 2 it were good actually. I hope in Mass Effect 3 its better and enjoyable not annoying.

You also got health regen from readily available armor mods, Phoenix armor, and gaining enough Renegade points.

I agree it was simple easy to ready and you could manage your squads health and shields with ease.
Someone mention armor pcs. with regen capabilities. . . is that a possibility or will we have mods to add on to your armour like ME1 and what about squad mates will we be able to add mods for health or shields etc.to their armour . . . I know there is another thread out there that mentioned this but it has not been mentioned for months or confirmed.

Now this is a good thing. But I do hope that medigel isn't that scarce like it was in ME2. That would be horrible. If I use say 1-2 medigels per mission with ME2 availability, I will probably end up playing with 1 bar of health rather than consuming medigel except under most dire circumstances (That works for me as well).

I'm wondering if he's played any games before this console generation with a statement like that.

So does it only regenerate 20% at a time in combat per "regenerate" or only to 20% until combat is over and then it refills faster ala Dragon Age 2?

Well, if someone can care enough to go back to even 2007 games, they can play UT3 which is a nice throwback to shooters, with classic health and armor system. I find the vehicle system kind of complex, but I still like it.

I love this new system, mostly because I don't have to wait for my health to be recovered. Just slap some medigel on your wounds and keep shooting!
